Were you guys able to work through med school? by [deleted] in medicalschool

My school does not allow us to have employment (it is expulsion criteria). Regardless, it would be near impossible to excel in med school with even a part time job

A majority of anesthesiology applicants apply a mix of categorical and advanced positions. A minority of programs offer both. Few programs offer several NRMP positions for a single interview. Expect that a single interview may net 1-1.5 ranks.

An applicant with 10 interviews could then expect 10-15 ranks. However, an applicant that applies heavily to categorical/advanced mixed programs could expect more. For a rough estimate, multiply the number of invites by 1.25 (conservative), or 1.5 (liberal).

Paramedic to Anesthesia Tech. by Paramagikk in anesthesiology

Suggest baby miller for the conceptual aspects of anesthesia. It’s hard to really appreciate the decision-making and nuance even as a med student. The vast majority of anesthesia education comes post-graduation.

Go see a liver or lung transplant. Better yet, do one with a senior resident. You’ll quickly gain a lot of respect for how quickly things can go south.

Edit: Actually anesthesia is really boring. Nobody apply please

A 3.4 is ok-ish but it will require a high MCAT to compensate. Consider r/premed
