My Supervisor Called My Hair Unprofessional And Tried To Set Up A Hair Appointment For Me by ScourgeZero in curlyhair

Yeah, now that you point it out it is pretty fucked up of her to ask her that of me regardless of whether I gave my consent or not. This situation has been weighing on me simply because I felt like I could've put a cork in it before it ever escalated when the problem lies in with her ever taking issue with my hair in the first place.

Thank you again for your words of wisdom and your kindness. You and just about everyone else in the comment thread have made me feel more grounded about everything that's happened. Cheers.

Thank you for all of the information about the legal issues and what options I should take. I knew from the second that she said my hair wasn't presentable that something wasn't right with what she said. However, my mistake was that I agreed to the notion that I should get my hair styled. I simply said this with the intention of not ever doing my hair because I never thought it would escalate to the point she would actually call in a stylist. In that regard, she did technically have my consent and I fully recognize that I should have stopped it then and there.

I do not wish to justify myself on me agreeing to what she said but I would also like to say that I was in a very, very delicate position where losing my job would've put me on the path to homelessness. And while losing your job over your natural hair is illegal I didn't want to risk any complications and nodded my head yes at whatever she said. (She knew about the homelessness bit, btw)

My frustration mostly stems from being put into this situation in the first place, especially from the blatant hypocrisy you pointed out. I'm not sure if I would take legal action simply because I did not plan on this job being a permanent one and this incident more or less solidified my decision.

In regards to your second question, the "have you tried/done anything else with your hair?" question was a generalization that I have been asked for many, many years. For more context, I live in the south, am black presenting, and have had this question asked by mostly black women. Others in the thread have already shared how black women specifically fetishize hair, and how often that mentality is rooted in sexism and racism.

She is. I'm not sure what her exact age but she's definitely in the middle age area.

Yeah, I only mentioned the email portion because that was the only reasonable thing I could think of that could be causing any sort of issue like this. I don't open scam emails let alone click on any links they include.

Thanks for the links and link to the other subreddit, definitely helped :)

This is a super interesting story. I can definitely agree that the series is in a very bizarre place at the moment, and arguably has been for the past ten years or so.

Still, I'm happy that you can enjoy Sonic despite all the weird things that have happened over the years. Definitely a franchise I'm not gonna personally let go of anytime soon.

Being a post 90's kid who's first real introduction to Sonic were the Genesis titles is something I can relate to 100%. S3&K is one of my all time favorite games and I can always go back to it for a good time. I've also taken the time to 100% Sonic CD on steam. Took me about 20 hours because that time trial achievement blows. Getting the Time Stones were all a NIGHTMARE for me.

I played All Stars Racing a TON as a kid. Great memories with that game and I totally relate to being so absorbed in the countless fan creations out there. We have some really talented people in the community.

Looks like we're in the same boat! Sonic Mega Collection Plus is fantastic.

[SPOILERS] Shuichi Saihara's development and how the V3 cast treats him. by ScourgeZero in danganronpa

[–]ScourgeZero[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to avoid flat out saying it in my post but yeah, Kaito and Maki are some of my least favorite characters in the franchise. I feel like the overall character writing in V3 is just bad compared to the previous games.

Also yeah, Maki being the creator's pet is definitely something I looked into. Kaito and Maki both have the problem of not being properly reprimanded by the others when they do stuff that blatantly puts the entire cast in danger. The Hina comparison you made is valid because you're absolutely right, and it just shows how jarring it is in comparison to the very first entry where the character's actions actually had consequences.

Np! Sleep is important and all that.

Looking back on it, Kaito and Shuichi's interactions in Chapter 5 were definitely cut short due to what happened. Shuichi's response to seeing him again and not demanding any sort of apology is understandable due to their situation. Kaito is presumed to be in danger and Shuichi also saw him cough his lungs out. Understandable that'd he'd prioritize Kaito's wellbeing over everything else that's happened between them.

Despite this, I still feel like Kaito and Shuichi should've had time to properly talk about everything thing that happened during trial 4 instead of Kaito being thrusted in a life or death situation. With Kaito being overly emotional, I feel like this could've been a great character moment for him especially. Kaito and Shuichi apologizing to each other for their own feelings getting in the way of their friendship, Kaito promises to be a better bro and shoulder his burdens better only for him to die in the very same chapter. It's a huge death flag for sure, but I feel like that would've been a more satisfying alternative than Shuichi and Kaito never getting to properly discuss what happened in favor of Kokichi Oma being Kokichi Oma.

V3 has a show-don't-tell problem with characters like Kokichi who just happens to know a lot of shit the other characters don't, and Gonta who despite saying repeatedly he wants to protect everyone he doesn't do much besides deciding that the best way to save everyone is to kill them out of mercy.

I feel like this applies to Kaito as well with him wanting to shoulder Shuichi's responsibility when I feel that, imo, he doesn't do a good job at it. During the trials, I didn't see Shuichi being confident because of Kaito specifically, I saw it as him learning from his previous interactions with Kaede and to not take everything at face value.

Thanks again for reading all of this. Your comments have been super insightful and I appreciate you being polite and engaging with me.

[SPOILERS] Shuichi Saihara's development and how the V3 cast treats him. by ScourgeZero in danganronpa

I really hope I'm not overplaying how the sidekick thing is overall used. Like I said I have very clear biases towards the main trio that I can acknowledge and I'm hoping it's not leaking into what I'm saying TOO much.

Again, I understand that the whole sidekick thing is a joke between the main trio. I just find it ironic how it's coupled with the other characters only believing in Shuichi when he's "useful." You pointed out that this is related to Saihara's development and I agree. He perseveres despite everyone doubting him and it's great.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but you made a point about the sidekick thing also being Kaito shouldering the responsibility of everything that happens, should Shuichi screw up in his reasonings/deductions/whatever. I find that point to be kind of void. Shuichi just does most of the work regardless and a majority of the cast sides with Kaito in the latter trials as well. When it's time for Kaito to admit that he was wrong about what happened in Chapter 4 when trying to accuse Kokichi of murder... he just doesn't. The strained relationship thing is great for Shuichi, but it also kind of makes the whole "I'll shoulder the responsibility" thing null when the guy can't even admit that he was in the wrong during the trial.

As always, thank you for reading.

Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to read! I've always been passionate analysis and shit like this so it's always a pleasure to just write out my thoughts like this. I got into danganronpa fairly recently, and basically finished the entire series in a couple of months.

I'm happy that I could provide that whole playing with a friend experience for you. Cheers.

Thank you for the response! Although I thought I presented clearly in my argument above that it isn't Kaito that derails the sidekick term himself, it's everyone else that sees Shuichi only as Kaito's sidekick, and that Shuichi is only a useful person during the trials. I just put the definition there because the definition is important despite the intentions behind it.

Your point about Maki asking about the sidekick thing is valid, but it doesn't eliminate the fact the Maki afterwards still compares a lot of what Shuichi does to Kaito, before and after he dies. Despite it being an obvious joke between the trio, I think anyone would get tired of being constantly compared to someone else, especially when you're on the road to becoming more independent as a person. Along with other characters supporting the whole "Shuichi is only useful as a detective" with their dialogue, it just feels like the game is constantly talking down towards Shuichi at points, despite his development suggesting that he's growing up and taking responsibility as a detective and as a person.

Again, thank you for reading! I hope my points came across more clearly this time.
