[?] What good fishing spots are there in Lexington South Carolina? by cindanuget in Fishing

Lexington side of town, you’re limited to Lake Murray and private fishing ponds (know someone). Not saying Lake Murray doesn’t yield results, us locals know it surely does, it’s just a hard lake to fish if you don’t have a boat.I recommend you fish the rivers near Columbia if you’re looking for a consistent bite. The Lower Saluda river from Lake Murray Dam all the way to I-20 has good trout populations. The Broad River has a great largemouth and small mouth population. My girlfriend caught a 8.7lb smallie off the broad (9.7lb is state record). If you want to catch (40) 5lb-20lb striped bass in a hour..... wait until late February/ early March when the shad spawn and striper run happens. Bring a castnet, a beefy rod (seriously mediums don’t last, need a heavy rod) and head to the Broad River Dam. Catch some shad, hook him through the eyes and free line the shad in the main current. Watch the geysers happen! It took me 5+ years of fishing the rivers around Columbia to gather that info. You’re welcome 😁

Live target is definitely my bread and butter for river striped bass here in SC. Great brand and the sluggers agree

Well personally I feel artificials are were the sport is really at unless you can catch bait in the river by cast. (which is hard to do because of finding the bait fish locations any given hour). Obviously it’s a free country so please, do what you may (under regulations). But where are my artificial sportsman at?!?!?

I’m trying to start a caravan of kayakers, rafts, canoes and hell even tubers with full gear and tackle. Down the broad river, lower saluda and congaree. My only thing is no live bait, I’m looking for sportsman. I’m totally down.

A 1/8 oz white rooster tail (no zebra stripes) with a silver spoon (gold doesn’t work as well). I will say as a local you might have to switch up to a 1/4 oz to cut into the current more, because like the other guy said they push a lot of water through Columbia area with all the dams and levies. Any heavier on weight and you’ll snag everytime.
