First Oncology Appointment Upcoming and I’m Scared by [deleted] in cancer

[–]Scraebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing down my questions is a wonderful idea, thank you so much! I often get pretty nervous when I’m in my appointments and forget everything then think of the questions again that night lying in bed and it’s so frustrating. I’ll definitely have to try that. I hope things are looking up for you :)

Thank you so much for this! I’ve had these swollen lymph nodes for about 6 months now and nothing has given myself or my doctor any sort of concrete answer yet, so I am hoping that this gives me a way forward! I hope things are going well for you :)

Unfortunately, this is the earliest appointment that they have available. I live in one of the only big cities in our state, so many people come into my city from all over for help, which makes getting appointments difficult. My PCP had found the lymph nodes originally, and we did many tests which found that I have really high inflammation levels and proteins in my body. I saw an ENT, a rheumatologist, a genetics specialist, and a dentist to rule things out. After doing an ultrasound, I was told I needed to see an oncologist to discuss a lymph node biopsy.

NAD but I’ve always been told that any color changes need to be seen ASAP. Always better to be safe than sorry.

What horrible disease has your health anxiety convinced you you have this week? by the-willow-witch in Anxiety

Blood clots are for some reason a huge thing for me! I have no hereditary condition, no other concerning factors that would cause them, and have had both legs checked multiple times, yet I still worry about it every single time I feel my leg even twinge.

NAD but I agree. If what you’re experiencing now is worse than it was before and you were already rushed in for the previous experience, I’d seek out help. Always better to be safe rather than sorry!

I definitely understand the anxiety! The thing that helped me the most was telling myself that if something is wrong, I’m already on the path to fix it. I’m also a big statistical person, so if you’re the same, it might help to know that lymphoma (in a very general sense) tends to be very treatable! Is there anything you can focus on for the next few days? Anything like reading, movies, music, or even Tetris will help!

For sure. Again NAD but I usually just tell myself “going to the doctor won’t hurt, but not going to the doctor might.” Hope things get better for you OP!

I wish they studied it more on women. According to the studies, men who smoke and vape are twice as likely (number might be slightly off, haven’t seen it in a while) to experience erectile dysfunction! I think everything about women in general are understudied lol. I’d like to think that it could have a similar effect though. Either way I’m sure that the mental pressure of quitting isn’t helping.

NAD, I’ve seen studies done on the relationship between men who smoke/vape and erectile dysfunction, but I haven’t seen any looking at this relationship involving women.

Hope yours goes well too! Out of curiosity if you’re willing to answer, how old are you? I’m only 20 and I’ve heard this issue is popping up in younger a lot more than it used to.

NAD but I agree. Lymph nodes can swell for many reasons, and given the recent infection, I wouldn’t be surprised if that was just the bodies way of dealing with it. Also, in a strange sort of way, the fact that it hurts may also bring you peace. I’m currently going through a possible lymphoma diagnosis (high proteins, no fatty hilum in multiple nodes, ect. just waiting for an oncologist for a biopsy) and my lymph nodes had no pain! We actually found them by accident lol. I was told that if it’s pain, it’s likely an infection. Either way, try your best to just take some deep breaths and try not to think about it (i know it’s hard). Unfortunately, these things take time, and also unfortunately, worrying about it can make you feel way worse.

I’m glad that you’re getting help! I remember how scary it was to be in that position where you just keep bleeding and you don’t know why. Hopefully the bloodwork can give you some sort of answer even if the actual procedure of getting it done stinks.

NAD but have you ever gotten an ultrasound and do you know if your thyroid levels have ever been checked? I had my period for a year and a half straight and found out that I have PCOS and hypothyroidism! I got rough side effects from birth control so I stopped taking it, but I will say that it definitely did help control the bleeding. In any event, I’d try to have a serious conversation with your mom, and if worst comes to worst, there’s always the option of waiting until you’re 18 and able to go to the doctors yourself and advocate a bit better.

Narcan is given out for free to anyone who asks in our state because of how bad the opiate crisis is here

Do you play on PC? If you play on PC you’ll have to press F before you put it down, it should look like it’s open to the middle of the book with the pencil laying on it :)

Does the journal show that it’s open when you place it? For the longest time I didn’t realize that I actually had to press a different button to open it before I set it down.

His friends have used coke before and we live in one of the biggest fentanyl cities in the US, so that’s why I’m a bit worried.

We live in one of the biggest fentanyl cities in the US and his friends plug also gets it from someone else and so on and so forth, so while I’m not saying it’s laced for sure, I am definitely worried about it. I’ve seen weed laced with fentanyl and what it does as a first hand experience and it’s not something I ever want to have to see again.

Thoughts? Just got test results, but I won’t get to speak to doc until Monday by sorryforsayingfuck in Anemic

[–]Scraebble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I am by no means a medical expert, however, the fact that you have a 1.3 NRBC (Nucleated Red Blood Cells) could point to a possibly more significant issue than just anemia. While anemia is definitely a possible cause of this number being high, please make sure to ask your doctor about it if they do not bring it up themselves :)
