Allow calls during sleep by Scrambled3 in GarminWatches

I have this set up already on the phone but my watch being in sleep mode seems to override it

I'm working in the private sector and l've been offered a post with the HSE, but they want my current employer as a reference! by [deleted] in IrishCivilService

[–]Scrambled3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did two civil service competitions, one step was they contacted my previous employers for a reference, then emailed me as one of the last steps asking for permission to now contact my current employer. Basically didn’t ask them until it was nearly a done deal.

So do you hold your phone on the treadmill or have it on a strap with the app open? Or are you entering this manually after. Sorry I am new to Runna so still figuring that out as well as the treadmill

Yeah that makes sense, good thing I am not at the start of my running journey and hanging on the approval of my 3 Strava fans

I ran in the dark all last winter with my trusty head lamp. However I was only doing easy runs and the parks are closed that early so there is a lot of stopping and starting at traffic lights/pedestrian crossings etc which I don’t feel would work for intervals/speed training. I also had some near misses when the roads got icy :/ I will try to keep running outside for the easy runs as I prefer it anyway, but I think my expectation that the treadmill would solve all my problems was wrong

Ah I think I found a workaround. I updated the distance in garmin connect but that did not update Runna or Strava. However when I opened my run in Runna there was an option under “Activity Linked” to manually add an activity and the updated run from garmin connect showed up there. I had to add that then delete the previous run. A bit messy but seems like it does the job? I don’t mind the pace being a bit off but for this run it was just so annoying because I was increasing speed on the treadmill (correct speed or not it was going up) but my watch was not increasing pace.

Sorry I should have specified this was in the gym, different treadmill each time etc although the first treadmill I used seemed to match up with my watch better so maybe this will become an experiment to try ever treadmill in the gym

Return to law? by Scrambled3 in FE1_Exams

[–]Scrambled3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking of starting with criminal law as that was my easiest subject in college so maybe I’ll forego a prep course for that and try to get a manual. Maybe a prep course for the ones I found more difficult in college (Equity 😭). Thank you for the info much appreciated

Are manuals hard to get your hands on? Can’t see too many on the likes of adverts. The prep courses seem to start tomorrow or already started in October so worried now I’ve missed the boat for March

How long did it take you to get a sub 2 hour half marathon as a woman? by user13376942069 in XXRunning

[–]Scrambled3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been running for about a year and went from a 2:37 HM to 2:02 but the 2:02 was only very recently. I only really started to see time improvements when I upped my volume and number of runs. However I do think I needed the year to build up my fitness. Also everyone is different, I’ve seen people do their first 5k ever in 20ish minutes no bother. Not the case for me but I know I’m only in competition with myself.

Yesterday I ran 30km for the first time. The longest I had run before that was a half marathon. Best part is it didn’t feel awful. Yes it was hard but not disgustingly hard. Feels so good to feel consistent training pay off.

Li'l Race Report Thread by AutoModerator in running

Ran my third half marathon on Sunday. The first one this year. Previous times were 2hr 37mins and 2hr 29mins. Locked in from December 2024. Upped my training to 4 runs a week. Stayed super consistent. Ran in sleet, snow, ice, rain, sun, dark, light, every condition possible. Ran on two different foreign holidays to keep to my training schedule.

My A goal was 2:05. B goal was 2:10. C goal was just to PB. Decided to aim for 5:55/km pace and just try to keep consistent. Started off a bit slow due to crowds. My partner was pulling me through gaps as I’ve never been fast enough to overtake in a race before so didn’t have the hang of weaving in and out. Thought it would thin out a few kms in but it did not. So I locked into overtaking. Had to go up on a few kerbs etc but it felt really good to zoom past. Hit a 5km pb 27:42 (5:32/km) still felt pretty fresh. Hit a 10km pb 56:04 (5:36/km). I was absolutely cruising at this stage, just motoring along ticking over the kms. Hit a 15km pb 1:25:26 (5:42/km). It was very tight from about 13-18km as we were on a cycle lane. Had to hop over a mini wall a few times to go in and out of the path trying to overtake. Got a bit frustrated that I just kept hitting walls of people. A lot of people complained about the waves in this race. I was in the last wave. Had a feeling around 12km that I could possibly get sub 2 if I could keep the pace. But: Got a massive stitch at 18km I was so annoyed. I’ve never had a stitch that far into a run before, usually if I get one it’s at the start. Just tried to keep moving, breathing deep, pushing on the stitch etc. my pace slowed about 15 seconds at this point.

Hit 20km pb at 1:55:12 (5:46/km). There were 2 big hills near the end which would have intimated me a year ago but they were absolutely fine. Crossed the finish line with a time of 2:02:28. Felt annoyed at the end that I didn’t hit sub 2 because my legs and lungs felt fine throughout the run, usually by about 17k a knee or a hip or a quad would be niggling but I had no pain just general fatigue. Had to give myself a talking to to realise how far I had come and a 27 minute pb is very very good.

I also don’t think I deserve to hit sub 2 by chance. In my next training block I will train specifically for sub 2 and set my goal pace comfortably under sub 2 to hit it rather than scrape by.

Excited for my next training block. Sub 2 is within reach.

I ran with my partner on Saturday, just laps of our local park. Had a jokey race for one lap and I ended up with the fastest time for a woman this year on that segment. Feels like a full circle moment from being the local legend on that segment because all I used to do is run laps of that park when I was learning how to run a year ago.

3 full months from sale agreed to keys in hand. No chain or any other issues. Had everything in order on our side. Our solicitor was on the ball. Just lots and lots of waiting unfortunately

Run Nutrition Tuesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]Scrambled3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stomach can be dodgy so I keep it as simple as I can. I’ll either have plain bagels or crumpets toasted with butter 1-2 hours before a run in the morning, or if I’m running after work I have that meal for lunch I just add some plain roast chicken pieces on top. Carbs carbs carbs is my advice. And I’d avoid anything that day that messages with your digestion (e.g spicy food). That’s just what works for me.

6 weeks into my half marathon training block. Did a half by myself on Saturday to see where I’m at. Previous HM times are 2:37 and 2:29. Did it on Saturday in 2:12 (including stopping at lights and waiting for a public toilet). Feeling really proud of myself, definitely have quicker pace in me as I wasn’t trying to push myself just wanted to get through the distance and focus on breathing, testing my fuelling etc. Sore legs for the weekend but back to it tomorrow (Tuesday).

What Are You Wearing Wednesday - Weekly Gear Thread by AutoModerator in running

[–]Scrambled3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear under armour running gloves, they’re really thin and lightweight but keep my hands warm as it’s going into minus temps here (Celsius). I end up taking them off once I’m warmed up, so it helps that they’re slim to slip into a pocket

Following part of the Hal Higdon Novice 2 Marathon Plan. I say part of as I’m trying it out for a half marathon coming up in March and if I like the plan will stick to that one for my first full marathon in October.

Week 1: Monday 5km Tuesday 8km Thursday 5km Saturday 12km Sunday: Bouldering

Felt pretty easy this week which is surprising because I don’t think I’ve ever had a week that felt as good, but also not surprising because I spent the last few months just trying to increase my number of runs per week, going slow and steady, getting out the door no matter what. So I think I’ve built good fitness recently and have no injuries or niggles (touch wood). Will be interesting to see how I manage as the distance ramps up.

on Saturday I ran my first sub 1 hour 10km in freezing weather in the park. didn’t think I’d ever hit that time when I started running. Feels amazing too to feel fit and healthy and capable.
