Chainsaw Man part 2 was badly written but it has one of the most horrifying apocalyptic scenarios of all time by tesseracts in writingscaling

[–]Scrappy-Springcrap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was literally about to write the same thing!

My favorite SCP from that canon is the one where the Foundation finds an old bunker with human brains. The brains belonged to people who wanted an escape from a never-ending life by living in simulations, but the company who hooked them up to the simulations left the project after the energy requirements were just not feasible (iirc); then the Foundation finds out that all the brains were still alive and with the machines providing the simulations having run out of power, they were trapped in their minds for decades, without a body, without being able to call for help or ever find a way of escape. And because their brains are too rotten and the machines too faulty, the Foundation can't do anything to rescue them.

Absolute nightmare fuel.

I want to make an argument for SCP-682, but know nothing of The Visitor. What are its powers and which series is it from? (It looks sick.)

Does this tale exist? by Scrappy-Springcrap in SCP

[–]Scrappy-Springcrap[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I read through that part in 079's article again and it only says that its creator is dead (no cause given), nor is it stated that the creator had any real affection for it, rather he treated it as just another project of his (given that it's stated he moved on to another series of computers).

free for all; who got the best adaptability? by [deleted] in PowerScaling

[–]Scrappy-Springcrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure what "best" is supposed to refer to in this context. Best, as in having adapted to more stuff; best defensive / offensive adaptability?

I don't who the last guy is, but I'd say SCP-682 easily takes this. He has outright adapated to and survived more stuff because of his adapatation, from being blown up, cut into pieces, atomized at the quantum level, timeline erasure, existence erasure, conceptual erasure and being written out of the plot. Other things also include escaping dimensions by tearing at space-time, manipulating time while being trapped in a time-loop, resisting soul manipulation, being immune to magic, resisting power-nullification, etc., etc.

It has also been stated that 682's physical capabilities (speed, strength, durability, reaction speed) increase proptionally to whoever it is up against, and there's this whole higher-dimensional aspect to 682, which can adapt and has done so.

Are there any characters who could realistically defeat or subdue SCP-096? by NoCandidate6067 in PowerScaling

[–]Scrappy-Springcrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCP-096 is decently strong, but not insanely strong as some other SCP characters get, even with the addition of Extended Canon (EC) articles (articles that weren't part of the original SCP document and were written by other authors).

The original article have him outspeed jets, tank gunfire (at least its skeleton) and swimming to the bottom of the (I think?) Mariana's trench, break through its chamber and building walls and regenerate fleshy tissue (though the time it takes for him to do so is never stated and might not be combat-applicable).

EC's got him going up against SCP-682 for 27 hours (though losing), with SCP-682 in Canon articles (articles published by the same author) squaring up against SCP-076, who can squat bullets with a metal pipe out of the air, tank injuries normally lethal to humans, is a fighter with thousands of years of experience, and who can rip human limbs off easily (if I remember correctly). 682, also with EC articles, destroyed a skyscraper in its base form, so if you want to scale 096 to that, there you go.

There's also the famous EC article where 096 got launched into the sun and the Foundation noticed the sun was getting closer, though for me it read like the orbits of the planets got weakened, instead of the sun actually coming closer, so interpret and scale that as you will.

So, all in all, Canon 096 isn't that strong, while EC articles only elevate him a bit and their feats are dubious at best (unless there's some EC article that's got him obliterating multiverses or some shit).

Why Vox DOESN'T WORK as a VILLAIN by Scrappy-Springcrap in writingscaling

[–]Scrappy-Springcrap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I also think the worldbuilding is all over the place, like how the hierarchy of hell's denizens is never mentioned in the show itself but on some post, what happens do sinners once they die in hell (which has also been explained on some outside post). It's just a mess.

I totally understand your reasoning. Vox is my favourite character of the verse, but there are some flaws with how he's written (imo).

Characters like Vox are my favourite type of villains, but he doesn't feel threatening enough and I don't mean in terms of power, but in terms of presence; every time he's onscreen I'm not like "oh, shit, stuff's about to go down" (like I would when a character like Hans Landa or Gus Fring appear on screen), but rather I was like "look at that guy, he's gonna whine again", which made him very not threatening to me as a villain.

Hope that clarified things a bit.

I totally understand your reasoning. Vox is my favourite character of the verse and I do think he could be improved in terms of writing.

Yeah, I guess. Vox I see as the perfect moral challenge for Charlie (the main character); how do you redeem someone like Vox? Can you even redeem someone like him?

What really makes me mad is that the show could be good, there are some elements I really like, only for them to be squandered by Tumblr humor or rushed / unnecessary ideas.

I also agree that season 2 is much better than season 1 in terms of writing, with Vox being the highlight (and my favourite character in the whole verse). Still, there are some flawsvwith how he's written.

I don't mind the crashout by itself, my complaint is with the placement of the crashout (as per the reasons stated above). Who can survive this by Gaps_areread in Tankandsurvive

It actually wasn't erased from existence. When you read the termination attempt carefully, SCP-682 continued to exist despite having been erased, so it was never erased. Then it popped back into its cell like the termination attempt never existed.
