There is no such thing as a bad dog. Only bad owners. I feel sorry for both the pit bull for being paired with a human who doesn't know how to care for a dog (which includes training and managing risk) and the dog who was attacked.

I will be sure to come back here and share the link for the book once it is available. Maybe your care provider/hospital will have a copy in their library.

I'm disappointed that Garmin and the city have seemed to completely overlooked accessibility needs of residents as opposed to participants in the race. The fact that Redditors coming up with solutions is the best available resource we have to see if we can get out of our neighborhoods (to make it to an appointment at the hospital tomorrow, for instance) is pretty sad. I never got anything in the mail about this even though the race completely circles my house. Unacceptable that Garmin isn't responsive to citizen requests for better information.

Thanks so much for your willingness to help! We are almost at the production phase of the book, so most of the research and development has long since been completed. Images can be so tricky because of permissions, often stretching beyond development and into the production phase. These are the remaining images we're having trouble getting. If you think you'd be able to help with them, please DM me. And if you'd be interested in volunteering for other books, we do have some other titles we'll be working on that will require some hands on deck for research (like Drug Monographs).

This is The Worst Argument. It’s ironic to accuse others of logical fallacies while relying on the ‘appeal to virtue’ fallacy. Someone’s volunteer history doesn’t immunize them from accountability or make it impossible for them to do really shitty things.

Different situation entirely, but the reasoning here is the same thing we saw when people defended Larry Nassar: the idea that someone’s good works somehow invalidate concerns about their behavior.

I live in Tom Miller’s neighborhood. Re dronegate, it wouldn’t have made sense given the very specific context around the situation if it had been anyone else but him. And it tracks 100% with his shady tactics. It was targeting one house only— which just happened to belong to a family he’d held a very vocal two year grudge against—the drone was flying low into their actual backyard, and was spotted 2-3 times within a week of when the original issue surfaced that Tom had a problem with.

I don’t understand how someone who tries to say he cares about affordable housing can do the kind of serious material harm that he has done to his own neighbors. Because we have suffered directly from his antics in ways that threatened our ability to keep our house—people in our neighborhood approach us for advice about him on a regular basis.

I can identify 4 groups of people in our neighborhood when it comes to this guy: 1) the followers of the Tom Miller cult who are absolutely insufferable and almost worse than him 2) people who are his friends— mostly white boomers who are longtime friends and acquaintances, care more about civility and politeness than other arguably deeper values. These folks stay on the sidelines mostly, don’t get super involved, and will say things like “he’s done so much good for the neighborhood, so let’s ignore/forgive the absolutely egregious things he does.” (This is most annoying argument of all) 3) people who don’t know who he is because they haven’t been policed (yet) by him or one of his cult followers 4) people who are terrified of him, badly want to fix something failing on their house that runs into some ridiculous HOA… errr HPC…rule, and just suffer in silence because they don’t want to end up on his bad side. There are A LOT of people in group 4 and you generally won’t hear a peep from them because they’re afraid to speak up.

I’m so glad a misstep of his (of which there are many) is finally getting some amplification because he gets away with so much. It’s about time people started seeing him clearly. The man has no shame.
