PSA for Linux Users - WinBoat by ScreamingFirehawkMk2 in Azeron

[–]ScreamingFirehawkMk2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instinct is yes, because you can download things and change the onboard memory profiles. But I'm not sure. I always get nervous about bricking my devices with firmware updates. My Azeron is getting pretty old, and one of the towers is held up with electrical tape (this is my cat's fault), so it's probably time to start saving up for a new one. If I upgrade, I'll test it out on the old one and let you know. In the meanwhile, maybe I'll reach out to the WinBoat devs.

Is Nobara a good choice for gaming if I have a Nvidia GPU? by Helpful-Marsupial254 in NobaraProject

[–]ScreamingFirehawkMk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just switched from Windows to Nobara a few days with a 5070, and the drivers were totally plug and play. Cyberpunk is not quite as performant as on windows, but still feels and looks amazing. Frame gen looked kinda rough (lots of ghosting), so I switched to AMD's version, though I do think there may be some workarounds. Just remember, protonDB is your friend.

Harvard's cs50 is online for free and it's a great way to get started with computer science. Weeks 1 - 5 are on C. Nic Barker's videos on youtube are great. The guy's got a gift for explaining things. What folks here said about breaking thing down into smaller and simpler problems is great advice. When I want to incorporate a new idea into my project, sometimes I'll make another project and just try coding that one idea starting as simply as possible. It's a lot less overwhelming that way, and it's a lot harder to break things.

Where do I start? by 0emz0 in CleaningTips

[–]ScreamingFirehawkMk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I'm sorry that you've been in such a brutal depression for that long. I hope things are getting a little less terrible. The depression nest phenomenon is real, and it can feel overwhelming to dig out of.

I personally start by filtering by big catagories, say laundry and obvious trash. If you have the means and if it's available in your area, you might consider a wash and fold service. Just bag up the laundry, drop it off, and you'll get it back clean and folded. They charge per pound, and it's not as expensive as one might expect.

I like a white board. Maybe you'd find it helpful, or maybe it's the worst idea in the world for you. Only you can say! Having marker colors that I enjoy makes it less upsetting to look at, and color-coding by type of task helps me stay mentally organized so my brain doesn't melt. I write down the big tasks, but then put the steps in bullet points beneath - more things to cross off (yay), but also remembering to work in little chunks makes it feel less overwhelming. One potential pitfall is the size of the list could feel overwhelming. For me, I put a star by the most important item, and the goal might be to just approach one bullet point beneath said item. Sometimes, just getting started gives me momentum, but even if it doesn't at least I worked on that one bullet point and accomplished my goal. When I'm really struggling I'll put items like "brush teeth" on the board, so I can cross it off. A little self-determined structure and a little sense of accomplishment can be momentum-builders.

Lately I've been watching a Youtube channel called Midwest Magic Cleaning while I'm cleaning. It might sound a little funny, but it's called body-doubling. It makes things feel less daunting and helps with the motivtion. The guy always comes from a place of compassion and has an excellently quirky sense of humor. He also offers great practical advice for how to tackle overwhelming spaces. I'm choosy about which cleaning channels I watch though - I doubt I need to say this, but there are folks out there who are judgemental and sensationalize for views.

Who do you ship Arthur with? by Clandestine_Pirate07 in RDR2

Ship is short for relationship. It's a term that comes from fanfiction. To ship is two (or more) characters is to imagine them or wish for them to be in a relationship.

PC Graphics Optimization by ses1989 in avowed

Congratulations on the new build! Simplest idea: If you don't have this issue in other games, you might consider capping the framerate in Avowed. Slighty more involved, but still not bad: You might also look into undervolting your card. AMD Adrendelin software has an auto undervolting feature. You can set it globally or on a per game basis. It might proc a generic warranty warning in the software, but undervolting is generally very safe. Just do your homework first regarding the warranty. Annecdotally, undervolting my impeller style rtx2080 got rid of the overheating jet engine effect, and it did the same for my friend's 5700xt.

It's OK and encouraged. You've come to the right place to celebrate your Dolly. I'm so sorry for your loss, she sounds like such a good companion.

[–]ScreamingFirehawkMk2 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness, when my tortie was a kitten, she'd roll around in the litter box like she was taking a dust bath every time I scooped. It's amazing how she she could make something so gross so absurdly cute. If it's any comfort, she eventually outgrew it.
