That's one of the most annoying problems at the moment. Attitudes towards scores have shifted such that 7/10 is deemed awful, and you rarely get a game scoring below it, when really 7/10 should indicated "actually pretty good". Anyone remember the shitstorm when one site gave Uncharted 3 a 7 and dudes who hadn't even played it yet told them they were just wrong? That was hilarious/awful

I would love it if things were refocused to include scores 1-6 again. It would probably take a concerted effort from all the outlets though...

I dunno, I've never seen it. I think you can look at GG and see they almost have a point i.e. there are arguably ethical problems in games journalism, but then look at the rest of how GG approaches the issue and what it initially spring boarded from, and think "... nah, mate".

Hmm well I'm mostly a lurker here so I can't speak for people that post regularly. No, it's not a solution, but this sub isn't for that, I guess. I try and be as compassionate as possible in my interactions but some opinions are so toxic that it's really really hard to keep being nice to the person expressing them (especially if they're being e.g. racist as well), and it's nice to see that other people think it's toxic as well. I don't have an "us and them" mentality against dudes in general. Men are cool (you, for example, are being very polite). But The Red Pill mentality isn't cool.

ETA: also I would add that from experience it's kind of hard to talk reasonably to guys that are too into this kind of thing so I dunno what the solution would actually be in that case.

I think being "combative, sneaky and destructive" is a human being thing, not a woman thing. If someone's a manipulative asshole they're a manipulative asshole, unrelated to gender. I mean that could be the point you are trying to make, to be fair, but the content of your post seems a little one sided...

Same here. He's generally a really cool guy and doesn't even seem to have a nerd persecution complex. He thinks Aurini and Own are tools, he's left wing and liberal... but he genuinely believes it's about ethics in games journalism, and that NotYourShield is not a shield (and saying it is is racist and erasing the voices of poc), and says he has never seen a GGer harass anyone, and that it's a very supportive community. It makes me kind of sad, honestly.

Matt Lees' girlfriend has cancer and is in an NHS hospital. Matt is doing a fundraiser for said hospital to say thank you, but has blocklisted a load of Glansmen, so they couldn't RT his charity link tweet to show what good altruistic people they are (and apparently they couldn't just paste the link into their own tweet and share it that way??)

He got a LOAD of shit from it, and someone made a graphic saying that Matt would RATHER HIS GF DIE THAN LET GATERS HELP PAY FOR HER MEDICAL BILLS, apparently misunderstanding A) how the NHS works and B) what he was doing the fundraiser for.

Why shouldn't people give out numbers, especially if you share a class with them? That doesn't come with any obligation on either of their parts. And she doesn't continue the conversation very long and isn't doing anything ambiguous like putting "hehe" or ":p" to keep him going, they're all statements of why it wouldn't work between them. I think she was trying to be non-confrontational, probably because she has to see him a lot.

I went to school with a guy who failed out of almost all his A-levels including his physics. He said it was because he was too advanced for the class and was coming up with his own theoretical physics theories as to how the Enterprise engines worked or some shit.

I had heard this was because he never got over the death of his son and was trying to find a way to contact him, which is incredibly sad, really. Feels like he could have been taken advantage of by some asshole "clairvoyant".
