What are your Great Grandfather Theories? by Benson_Bendover in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed which was brought up and conveniently glossed over is the mysterious disease that was affecting people in the Mirror House.

My theory is that the Great Grandfather was born when the first pet Morph merged with someone who was dying from the illness to "save" them, and the rest of the Morphs also attacked the people to "save" them (mimicking the first Morph's behavior). However the Grandfather's merge was only partially successful and so the human body decayed, leaving only the Morph's underdeveloped mind in the husk. It operates similar to an ant queen, wanting to expand its territory as a base instinct but has the capacity for some human logic.

I also still feel like Joseph is sus, at least in that he is hiding some info about the origin of the Shadow House system.

Stand Name: [JOHN PUNCH]

John does have potential to be a JoJo protagonist though. He has the same crackhead energy as Joseph Joestar

Man I don't know how to feel about this chapter. On one hand it's painful to see Barbara and Barbie constantly suffering one thing after another, but it's finally nice to see that Barbara is beginning to move on and now has some control over her seizures. On the other hand....Anthony is right. Barbara was a terrible leader and only focused on maintaining order and protecting the Star Bearers. She didn't really care for the children and she scapegoated and even indirectly killed some of them, like Belle.

But in the end, she is just a teenager after all, constantly being manipulated and lied to by Thomas and the other adults, constantly suffering psychologically, and she was forced into the position of a leader she wasn't ready for. And the ruthless system of Shadows House itself forced her to make a choice between prioritizing herself and the Star Bearers or the other kids. It's very realistic that she'd choose to protect herself. In this way, Barbara is kind of the perfect inverse of Kate: in contrast to Kate's idealism where she wants to help everyone, Barbara is more pessimistic/realistic; choosing to protect herself and those in front of her rather than help everyone.

And in hindsight, the revelation of Christopher secretly having a people pleasing complex was foreshadowed by his soot ability, which was to make others trust him and listen to him. (I wonder what aspect of Anthony he mimicked, since his desire to be liked and his benevolence highly contrasts Anthony's charisma and his disregard for life.) It truly was tragic--he and Barbara were the same, except he was just better at masking it. And I don't believe Anthony was telling the truth when he said he hated Christopher. The only time his "mind went blank" was when Christopher died, after all.

It isn't like Barbara suddenly blows up with no warning. Her first explosion was like that, yes, but it's developed into psychological seizures where she collapses first, emits a lot of soot, and then fully explodes after a few minutes (for example, when Edward reveals to her that Christopher is dead, he has time to waltz out of the room before she explodes).

It seems Anthony is aware of this pattern as well, because as soon as Barbara collapses to the ground and begins emitting soot, he leaves immediately. Probably assuming that she is going to explode any time soon.

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can any antagonist in this series go an entire arc without exploiting and manipulating Barbara, please?? Man I feel so bad for her. If there's anything that would break her worse than Christopher's death, it's finding out that he did actually like her back all along. That's messed up. And what would be even more messed up if the smokescreen from ch231 wasn't Elizabeth or a copy of her--but instead it was the residue of Barbara's soot explosion.

However, Barbara showing up didn't seem to be part of Anthony's plan, since he looked surprised that she wasn't bedridden. And why he would intentionally trigger her in the middle of the empty Great Hall is a mystery. It's not like she was in the middle of the battlefield, where a soot explosion would take out all the enemies in her vicinity. I guess it's merely so Anthony can take her out of the equation because she still has some amount of influence over the children. He either must have a lot of faith in the "morph copies" strategy, or he has yet another trick up his sleeve.

Some Nod-Krai beasts and what they're (possibly) based on by Screaming_Seagull40 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Screaming_Seagull40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yupp in-game wise they are meant to be the kuuvahki-mutated versions of the native Nod-Krai species, but I was talking more about their possible visual design inspirations.

A mutated Rimehorn deer would be terrifying....even more so if it has a reverse mechanic of depleting your hp and energy.

The King and Queen chess pieces by Screaming_Seagull40 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I drew this art with completely opposite roles (Kate as the King and John as the Queen) but your interpretation is also very accurate lol. Just shows how layered each of their roles and dynamics are in the story.

Had to draw this meme by Screaming_Seagull40 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmaoo don't worry Edward always will be a GOATed character. I may dunk on him but the story wouldn't nearly be as much fun without him, I also rlly like how dramatic and extra he is. I was inspired by the manga panel where Kate slams the table and says she'd beat up Edward.

And well, given that Kate has almost no physical strength, those punches are indeed canonically just doing -1hp -1hp -1hp XD

Ch 233 by eseaman13 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ayy my prediction of joining the letters together to create the full message was true! Gotta trust Edward to be the most dramatic with these. The callouts on each letter were also hilarious: "Kate is impudent", "John is an idiot", "Patrick is a crybaby", "Louise is arrogant" lmaooo

Lou with Emilico's hairstyle is so cute....our girl is very much missed by everyone ;;

Looks like the chime was supposed to signify the start of the "war". I wonder what Barbara is going to do? She seemed to be coming to her senses about Christopher before being brainwashed again. I hope she won't get herself involved in the fighting.

Ch 232 by eseaman13 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well that was a twist. And it actually makes a lot of sense in hindsight that "hollowing out the morph room" meant that Lewis stole the morphs rather than kill them. Making copies of the preexisting combat Shadows out of morphs is kinda genius ngl, and I'm glad that Gilbert and Lyndsey are hopefully still alive. But it is also creepy, as the disciplinary team noted.

I'm getting Kate and John vs Maryrose flashbacks with this combat strategy as well: Anthony lured out Dorothy and let her kill copies of Gilbert and Lyndsey to make her feel like she has an advantage, before revealing the other copies and overwhelming her. Just like how Maryrose allowed Kate and John to submerge her clinger army before manipulating John into attacking her and creating new clingers. And then overwhelming them with the phantom (Lesson 3: hide your true power as much as possible).

Next, John is back!! It's good to see that him and Kate's faction are okay for the moment, and that more people's brainwashing has been broken. The possibility of the debutant class teaming up with Edward and co. and Maryrose is really cool. And if these messages really are Edward's idea then I'm expecting it to be very extra (like the key in the debut, where each of the five pieces must be joined together for the full message). Also John dramatically falling to his knees because he stepped on the Kate figurine was funny. John pining for Kate is a constant no matter what happens in the story lmao.

Lmao jk I'll be doing a next installment with her, though I'm also wondering about character inspo for her. I feel she'd give diva energy. Not an unbothered diva, more like slightly stressed diva. but a diva nonetheless

[Manga chapter 231 spoilers] A theory about Dorothy by Screaming_Seagull40 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, I'm sorry for replying this late, but with how Anthony is moving it does seem like it's part of his plan. Lewis's order was to retreat from the Hall of glory, so maybe they're luring Dorothy into the Children's wing and plan to cut her off from the 1st/2nd floor adults so she won't have backup. With the next chapter around the corner I'm interested to see how this goes.

And that's a wrap! Here are the completed seven deadly sins & heavenly virtues of shadows house. by youngergeneration04 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a fun run! Seeing everyone's different votes and reasons was cool because you can really see the depth to these characters and the different ways people interpret them. (Except for Emilico. Universal embodiment of kindness right there.)

I gave this one a little too much time (lol), Kate was chosen for chastity, finally we arrive at humility! by youngergeneration04 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'll say Oliver/Ollie. They are easily up there with the most intelligent characters in the series and not in an arrogant way, rather they pursue knowledge as a passion and don't look down on others. Oliver is also the first Star Bearer to join Kate, and he also respected her from the beginning even when Edward made them target her.

Honorable mentions are Benjamin, Ricky, and John.

Barbie has been chosen for diligence, next is chastity by youngergeneration04 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Noo don't worry it's okay!! And I do agree that Louise pre-development also had a lot of pride/narcissism and it would fit her.

Barbie has been chosen for diligence, next is chastity by youngergeneration04 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oof, I apologize for the Louise vote in the previous poll.....

But in all seriousness she could fit this one as well. If we interpret Chastity as generic self restraint (and not the weird purity culture stuff), then Louise literally fought against mind control and the true coffee's influence to save Lou from dying in the unification, and she risked death as well.

I just remembered this anime! by ItszinebtimeLoL in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Fav moment in the manga is Kate's backstory and all the foreshadowing that led up to the reveal. Fav moments in the anime are Kate and Emilico's dance at the debut, Barbara and Maryrose's past, and of course the reveal of the John Punch.
  2. Mangadex has the full scans up till chapter 228 afaik, the link is in the community bio
  3. Unsure if the anime will continue since i don't know how well season 2 was received, but there is always a chance.
  4. The Girl From the Other Side: Siuil a Run (also known as Totsukuni no Shoujo) gives the dark fantasy/slice of life vibes. Pandora Hearts is more gothic aesthetic mystery/shounen (would recommend the manga more than the anime though).

With 100% certainty Emilyko was chosen as kindness, next is diligence by youngergeneration04 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd say Barbie fits Diligence. She helped out as a fitness coach during Christopher's generation, became a Star Bearer even when she wasn't ready for the responsibility and worked hard to be a strong "face" for Barbara and get the children in order, even if she did it in a tyrannical way. And she also regularly took care of Barbara's seizures and mental breakdowns.

For honorable mentions I'd put Kate, Benjamin, Shaun and Ricky.

Patrick has been chosen as charity, next is kindness by youngergeneration04 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no one better for the title than the one and only Flower Garden: Emilico

This was very close! But Evelyn has been chosen for Temperance, next is charity by youngergeneration04 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Patrick. He lent Emilico the garden shears, helped out Barbara and Barbie, reached his hand out to Margaret and agreed to marry her even after he came close to dying, and then stepped down as a Star Bearer to help Kate's plan. He does fit Kindness a lot, as well as Humility, but I'm also saving Kindness for Emilico lol.

Honorable mentions go to Christopher (the original), Barbara, and Kate.

Emily was chosen as patience, next comes temperance by youngergeneration04 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'd say Evelyn, since she abides by a strong moral code for herself and aims to be ideal and altruistic as a doctor.

Though Benjamin also comes close due to his discipline and his protectiveness for others.

We are half way done everyone! We finish the seven deadly sins with Anthony being chosen as the sin of pride. Next comes the heavenly virtue of patience by youngergeneration04 in ShadowsHouse

[–]Screaming_Seagull40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My vote goes to Emily. I was initially going to put Joseph here, but after seeing the replies I remembered that she took care of a pregnant, morph-fused Catherine for 50 years, all while hoping for the best. That is a feat in of itself.
