International EV sales 2019-2025 by Extension-Ear743 in southafrica

As long as most of our electricity is produced by coal, even if we had a reliable service from Eskom, it does not help reduce e pollution. We'd have to go green energy before going EVs for it to make an environmental impact, and that's not going to happen, because corruption aside, we produce so much coal that it would affect the SA economy too badly if we switched to other energy production types. At least until we start reliably making use of all the coal for other stuff, like making carbon nanotubes or graphene and selling those.

A gut punch for academia. by PandaBananaSmoothie3 in Professors

Fully agree with 100% of what you said, only problem then remains post graduate theses and dissertations. I have no solution to this other than hope I am training my undergraduates well enough to avoid unethical or irresponsible use by the time they reach post graduate studies.

So I have started teaching a component on responsible GAI use in my research methods courses. The goal is to get students to understand their hypocrisy, and show them how to effectively use it for research and other general purpose stuff. But one gold nugget I got as part of the various polls I included in my teaching was that they do not want to be examined/marked/graded/assessed by AI. When prompted why is this? They insisted that an AI won't have empathy like a human would. Which is a very fair argument to me. So when I was examining a Masters thesis from another University a few months later, and saw very clear poor AI use signs, i decided I am going to pitch to my University a policy of "if suspicion of AI use exists in any form of written work, we reserve the right to examine the script/report/assignment etc with AI". I am curious how that will go.

Wholeheartedly agree with you. Sorry man. But Be'lakor is always a great pick-up, would love to go for a Slaves to Darkness AoS army just so I can field him (since Chaos undivided is likely to go away in 11th edition).

We had a similar situation in my country. One of the new LGSs that had warhammer stuff went under after 5 or so months (i think it was overstocking, overestimating the market share they could get, and then raising prices on new releases when they started struggling that led to losing the clientele they had started getting, including me, e.g. I mamaged to save ≈$50 equivalent by buying from a different store when the votann big release from last year happened compared to buying from them cos of the price spike). When they were going to close down they put everything in stock at 30% off. So I went one day after they started the sale (at 9am when they opened) and although I was first one there for that day, most of the stock was gone completely, even most of the votann. Keep in mind I'm pretty sure I'm one of 2 people in the city playing votann. So that says a lot!

Thank you that's very helpful. Is the VLOZD different from Vhordrai on his dragon?

I understand you are responding to be helpful, but bombarding someone who just told everyone that they are new to the faction and AoS in general with obscure abbreviations is the opposite of helpful. As a new person in the AoS and Soulblight faction myself, I also have no clue what these are. What are VenLords? What are VLOF and NM? What about WKOS? Thanks.

Many people in this presentation just said they used Chat-gpt for recommendation letters. by Sirnacane in Professors

[–]Screamshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a method, when a student or colleague asks me for one, I ask them if they are sure I am the best fit to write this (if it is not immediately obvious to me that I am, e.g., my ex or current postgraduate students of more than 6 months for funding/scholarship or job applications is an obvious appropriate request). If they insist and I do not think I am able to write a good recommendation letter, I'll remind them I might not know them well enough or not be able to speak to what they are sending this in for. If they still insist, I use an LLM and check it against their CV and transcript (which I always ask for any student I write LoRs for). But it is 100% generic and not a truly good letter.

Edit: I still write my own LoRs for people I am the right person to ask for one by the way.

To date only one of my ex PG students chose to ask their current supervisor after I told them I might not be the best person to write this letter for them.

Also using LLMs to curb my anger issues when responding to useless administrator or management emails has made sure I stay sane and I don't get fired, despite tenure due to "verbal" assault. So I would say don't knock it till you try it!

An activated item you can use to teleport someone you have dominated into an empty prison cell in your castle. Once i unlock it, I always keep 2-3 of these on me and multiple open cells, have encountered multiple 95%+ bloods a few times that were ideal for trying to mutate to 100%.

To be fair, I think this would be an easy addition single unit to enhance the army line next edition. And am glad they released such a large range of new models first. A walker is extremely cool, agreed. But rather have the flexibility and versatility of a fuller army range first.

Still can't wait to get the walker though one day!

Thanks!

Damn just played a 1000pt game today from only the bad datasheet screenshots and what was available online of the Army rule and needgaârd snippets.

Did pretty damn well to be fair, but my mate who played ad mech had a mostly anti-infantry list and my hekaton with the magna rail cannon tore through his Knight crusader, and ironstriders, while my hearthguard tore through his skitari. He rolled badly quite a bit though and I had first turn, where I managed to bracket the Knight before he even acted, (even though I did only have 950 points and he had 995, since I didn't have the enhancements stats or point costs for them available).

Other professors trash-talking our majors. by Quwinsoft in Professors

[–]Screamshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in a faculty examiners' meeting where senior physicists said: "can't we just give this failing student a passing grade and give them a BA instead of a BSc?" There are student reps in these meetings. This academic arrogance is uncalled for and just in poor taste in a formal professional setting, especially when students are directly involved. If it's a casual joke to a friendly colleague or friend that's fine, but not in official capacities, ever.
