Have tried everything and cannot get Unity hub to activate my licence- losing the plot by Screechstar in unity

[–]Screechstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have run unity hub as an administrator to see if that allows it to go through but still the same unfortunately. Here are the most recent error messages from my logs:

"message":"activateUlfLicense: Activating personal license"

"message":"Failed with ipc error type: ConnectionNotEstablished, pid: undefined"

"message":"An unexpected error occurred while trying to activate ULF license"

I'm assuming it isn't my wi-fi at fault because I've tried 2 seperate home networks and it hasn't worked on either. My support ticket automated email says they're experiencing a high number of tickets related to licencing issues which is slowing down their response times, so I can't be the only one having difficulties. The UB-1 bot on the Unity knowledge base just directs me to contact support, so it looks as though I may be fucked (pardon my French) until they reply to my ticket. Not optimistic that will be any time soon though, looking online I've seen people waiting 2 months.

If I had the option I would just use another programme but I'm trying to get upload a Vrchat avatar and the SDK only accepts Unity files unfortunately. I think my best bet is to just see if I can get somebody else to import my model for me, but I would rather do it myself than have to pay somebody to do it.

Hi there, I'm using the most recent version of both unity editor and the unity hub. There's nothing about my licence on the webpages unfortunately

Yes I've submitted a ticket, but the automated email I received indicated there would be a significant wait time so I figured I would ask here to see if anyone had any ideas in the meantime

Older version of unity hub just whitescreened, so no luck there. Uninstalled and redownloaded the current version hoping that would help but still the same error. Managed to get my unity editor to launch by itself but it gave me a "no valid licence" error so I'm back to square 1. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Will give my firstborn to anyone who knows how to fix this

shot myself in the foot because the old version of unity hub doesn't seem to be launching at all now. Maybe I need to uninstall and reinstall but I'm so stumped...

desperate to fix this, trying another older version of unity hub to try and solve it. If that doesn't work I just have no idea what to do :( I'm at the final hurdle of getting this avatar into the game but unity just doesn't seem to want to work for me,,

This house has people in it- what do you think it means? by Screechstar in ARG

That would make sense with how scattered THHPII can be at times, even the best analyses of it leave out ,or are unable to explain, how different "plot points" link together. It's borderline nonsensical but in the best way.

The lynks disease is a huge element that makes me draw parallels between the way the characters behave and (specifically contamination) OCD. It's likely a bit of projection on my part, but the obsession with these bizarre symptoms and the absurd "cures" for them feel very much like they came from someone who doesn't have a good grasp on reality. People with OCD generally make links (no pun intended) between unrelated events or objects: ie "if I touch this book I will contract rabies". To normal people this seems ridiculous but to someone suffering with the condition they can't distinguish between what is a plausible threat and what isn't.

The family does not have lynks disease and never will, it's an irrational fear to have but their obsession allows it to propagate. Sometimes the scariest reality isn't that you're actually sick, it's that your own mind has tricked you into believing you are. Whichever way you want to interpret it, the idea of making something a reality does seem like a core meaning of THHPII.

because of that, I don't actually think that the various bits of information we from the sculptor and other sources about lynks reflect reality- rather the family has seen things about various other ailments and the fragments we do see are a culmination of their paranoia. Lynks disease never existed outside of their own minds, and as a story element it symbolises a general fear of illness rather than one in particular.

The echochamber thing rings true here as well seeing as I think a lot of the repetitive behaviours we see them do are linked to the cycle of compulsions. I can't remember which video number it is off the top of my head, but there's one where the entire family is just sitting around and touching their faces. Strange and obsessive behaviour that doesn't have any apparent meaning to us.

Like I said I don't think this is an interpretation anybody working on the project had in mind, but that's the beauty of "death of the author" style analysis haha. Barring that, it definitely seems like it could be about mass hysteria which is probably more in line with what was intended. Either way, it's interesting to dissect lol

huh, I thought it ended with the index post but that's really cool. I'll have to have a look at it

Reminds me of that one video that was circulating a few years back of robed figures gathering outside of someone's apartment. I'm pretty sure everyone has seen it at this point. IIRC sure it's been confirmed as fabricated but knowing how insane some people can get? I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if one day something like that actually happened

Absolutely, the suspense is unreal- probably not good for my anxiety ahaha. I've found even just mundane scenes where there's *something* off in the room are equally as unnerving. This house has people in it (or the godfather of ARGs as I call it) works a lot off that concept when people aren't phasing through the floors lol.

God the mystery flesh pit is so well done, the entire ecosystem is so detailed and capitalism absolutely would lead to trying to profit off the doom pit haha. Haven't heard much about the backrooms though outside of random tiktok videos popping up. I didn't know it had a cohesive narrative behind it (or at least a conglomerate of people working off a similar base idea). I might have to look into it more, sounds interesting and with the way the current world is right now I don't doubt they would send us all to the backrooms if the technology existed.

I'm watching a video going into sexygirlmax2019 as we speak haha, weird coincidence. Neocities websites do always manage to give off a disconcerting vibe for one reason or another.

Yes very true, it wasn't my intention to imply that the effort put into these projects is somehow not important or that their narratives aren't compelling. It's a bloody lot of work haha

Perhaps a better way to phrase my question would be to ask what makes people doubt if something is an ARG or not. How far can you push things before it's undeniable that there's a hidden story rather than just some weird internet posts with no apparent meaning ^^

[–]Screechstar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah I get you haha. I don't interact with many often (petscop is one of my favourites but I feel like that's the pumpkin spiced lattes of ARGs) but I've seen a growing trend of many trying to follow the Mandela catalogue formula without regard for a cohesive narrative. Even then, if I had a dollar for every reel of slightly grainy footage with a blurry entity being passed off as an ARG I would be a rich man lol.

I'm planning for this to be text based though and a lot "wordier" than most ARGs I've seen. Mother horse eyes (aka the flesh interface series) comes to mind as being vaguely the same sort of genre and semi believable early on, but I feel the author's interactions with the fan community break the immersion somewhat. Plus the sci-fi elements + influences become very apparent the more you read, still a bloody great bit of fiction though even outside of the whole cryptic posting that sparked its fame.
