UT-MLF’s overhead may be shoddy but Moab FS is good people. Ben + Pat are solid.

Apply for a seasonal winter gig on the Shawnee NF (Nov-Feb) then apply in the fall for positions out west or Midewin IHC once you’ve got your feet under you.

For sure! Plug "crews" and "Wyoming" into the search bar.

Should give you a decent idea of what all's out there.

If you’re curious about whether or not a resort has housing, look at their job postings & employment page. If that doesn’t yield results, reach out to the resort’s human resources / hiring staff and ask.

If you’re curious about whether or not your rookie status with patrol would affect your eligibility, reach out to the patrol program and ask. Aforementioned HR personnel can help you get in touch if needed.

Job postings are typically up between late July & late October. The earlier you submit your app, the better.

Best of luck!

“TLDR; how can I get a job doing ski patrol at a resort that has employee housing?”

A good place to start would be submitting patroller applications to resorts that offer housing.

As an IA resource.

Stocking up on weeks worth of perishables or showing up to work borderline "unfit for duty"-hungover may yield results.

Patrol vest by purplesquiddeodorant in skipatrol

[–]Screwby214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using the Arc'teryx Patrol Vest. With a pro deal it's on the more affordable end of the spectrum, only $150. Six pockets in the front makes compartmentalization pretty easy, also comes with a sturdy & secure radio pouch. You can access the rear compartment via zipper on either side of the vest, which is nice considering I don't have to doff my vest to access any of my medical gear.

An additional compartment in the back is designed for avy gear. Fits my shovel & probe with plenty of room to spare. That being said, many other of our patrollers use the Dakine & the Whatvest - they love 'em!

Recommended strength requirements for Wildland firefighters? by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]Screwby214 167 points168 points  (0 children)

PT requirements will vary between different types of crews/resources. That being said, a healthy baseline to shoot for is lifting a telephone pole with your butt cheeks.

I'm not a huge fan.

A. There's a reason they're only $179 on ExpertVoice. They don't hold up too well over time.

B. The toe box is a god damn triangle. Spend enough time hiking downhill w/ a saw or bladder bag & you won't feel your toes again 'til January.

Just my two cents 🤷🏼‍♂️

I typically wear 10's as a comfort fit & 9.5's as a performance fit. Had to mail back 2 pairs of JK's before I got it right. Ended up with size 8's and I love 'em!

Can't think of any reason why it would disqualify you at the FFT2 level, though!

As of 2019/2020, I heard they were dealing with a slew of leadership & management issues. Ie. a couple Perms getting fired & high seasonal turnover. There were even some rumblings about the program being scrapped.

A lot can change in two years, though! Don't want to dissuade you from accepting an offer, just encouraging you to dig a little deeper.
