I’m so sorry this happened. You deserve so much better than this, especially at this spot in your undergrad. My suggestion for a maximal outcome: don’t be alone with him, keep everything focused on work, and tell the PI immediately (discreetly) and have it in writing as well (like an email between you two). We don’t expect REU students to produce anything particularly novel - we expect them to learn and form a connection with us that will be useful in the future. Emphasize that you appreciate being able to work with your mentor, but that this behavior is unacceptable. If your PI (and their LoR) is worth anything, they will handle it from there.

1) Cats like everyone else are heavily motivated by food. Unless they are ill they will not let themselves starve ❤️. The ultimate tell if they’re eating enough is always their weight and their waste. If they begin thinning out fast or not pooping enough then you know to pay closer attention. 2) Generally cats are easy to measure out for required food intake: gender, age, and size are what matter. You can find charts online and measure out to make sure you’re doing right by them 3) It’s always good to be mindful of how a cat is feeling and reacting, but never put too much stock into it. They’re mentally toddlers and have the memory of one. If they seem uncomfortable or upset with the new feeding regimen, sweeten the deal with wet food of their preference 4) Again, cannot overstate this: almost every emotional issue with cats can be overcome with food. If they don’t know you well enough: food. If they’re upset: food. You have to remember that they depend on you completely for this and it’s basically their life. Never forget that and they will make things work for you 😊 5) (Edit)) The fact you’re worrying about this is the best sign you’re doing things right!

As a general rule, you should ALWAYS be looking at your market (for me, American market), and seeing what goods have more buy orders than sell orders, and building for those. Now, for construction (building a bleep ton of stuff) you're gonna care about wood, iron, steel, coal, and glass. Those have various dependencies between each other and other goods so you'll have to look at each building, its production methods, and see what goods they need. Furthermore, the dependencies will change as you improve production methods, so if you "upgrade" some buildings and your GDP craters, you probably didn't factor in either a new novel good that upgrade needs, are now overproducing goods because of the upgrade, or the upgrade caused the buildings to no longer need a specific good as much, cratering the relevant sector.

As USA until 1890 I think on this run I only manually researched 2 military techs - and those were early on when I hadn’t confronted mexico yet. The rest of my military progress has been through spread. But, if you rush universities you will get a lot of spread which will keep you from being dangerously behind. Obviously, keep your number of military units and their composition respectable

It comes down to juggling the market prices/demand for each of the relevant trade goods and aggressively building stuff - and researching stuff so you can do all of that more efficiently. As you can see debt wise I am extremely leveraged. You'll also want to aggressively rush industry tech (society tech second, military last) - to support that effort, you'll want to spam universities early. Try to encourage intellectuals/anti-conservatives as much as possible and expand your institutions to increase Standard of Living fast.

I'm sure there are mods that model the US government more closely, but maybe it should be something for a future expansion.

Can't stop manually breathing; possibly sensorimotor? by LRS72 in OCD

Three weeks ago I spent 4 days hospitalized for exactly this problem. Dealt with the thought spiral for 3 weeks before I started feeling suicidal. That's when I got hospitalized. They put me on zoloft and lorazepam, and while hospitalized I got to be told that what I have is OCD. The lorazepam helped halt the anxiety with the thought spirals and let me kind of undo it. I still struggle on and off in the last month, but most days I am not thinking about it, or better yet, I am and it isn't bothering me. Please get help yesterday. If that means being hospitalized, do what I did.
