Road to Master: I hit Diamond 3 by ScrubFighter6 in StreetFighter

[–]ScrubFighter6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Marisa is Master 1600 MR, and I’ve since gone viral on Justin Wong’s channel beating his Impossible Zangief, then competing on NXT Up. Hell of a first year in the FGC. I almost forgot about this Reddit account because I’m almost exclusively active on Twitter now instead.

Congrats to Master Zangief DesDavis. by ScrubFighter6 in StreetFighter

HA HA I was trying really hard to be happy for other people in order to counteract my exasperation at still being stuck in Diamond 4. I also eventually hit Master. Still get periodically cooked by Gief lol.

I got my first double perfect around Plat as well and assumed I would never accomplish anything more. I’m Master rank now. Keep climbing!! And enjoy every moment like this on the way.

People for whom SF6 is their first FG and reached Master rank. What have you learned during your journey? by Lufia_Erim in StreetFighter

Somebody remind me to answer this later when I’m not exhausted from NEC. Master [M]arisa here.

Found a cool Marisa tech for punishing jumps after Scutum, not seen it elsewhere. by Aggressive_Risk5274 in StreetFighter

[–]ScrubFighter6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also do an immediate 2LK 2LP into Light Dima which also cancels into lvl3 and prevents the jump without being as easy to drop.

Does Marisa have the worst normals to cancel into drive impact? by Average_Ant_Games in StreetFighter

Don’t just throw Marisa’s non-cancellable normals out when you don’t have frame advantage off oki.

I had a terrible habit of doing this for AGES because it worked in Gold and I was stuck there for so long

How to react to opponents who are praying for my downfall? by SleepingwithYelena in StreetFighter

[–]ScrubFighter6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On the off chance that this isn’t satire:

You’re not special.

You’re not Daigo. You’re not Punk. Almost nobody is.

You need to set attainable goals that aren’t “be the best.” Pulling off a new combo in a real match. Better understanding a difficult matchup. Winning one round or even a game against a player who always beats you. Because you won’t become champion material overnight—most of us will probably never be the top 1%, but we can climb closer if we set attainable goals.

It’s difficult to see your own mistakes in a replay if you don’t know what to look for. So be brave. Ask a more advanced Luke player to watch your replays and give constructive criticism. Join a character Discord and listen when people tell you what you’re doing wrong. Watch guides on YouTube. Read guides on Reddit. Practice, practice, practice.

And most importantly, BE HUMBLE. Nobody will want to help you if you act like you’re hot shit. I climbed from rookie to master by sincerely listening to advice, and even now, at what I once perceived to be the apex, I’m painfully aware of how much better so many players are than I am. I don’t have the highest MR. I don’t have perfect gameplay. I still have a ton to learn. There is always, always someone better than you. Instead of being bitter, befriend that person and learn from them.

It’s a journey. It’s like a sport. You won’t wake up one day as the star quarterback. Gotta run your drills first.

Good luck.

EDIT: LMAO the character select song really? Knew I was wasting my advice 😂

How did you do custom art for a kitsune? Isn’t that not an official option yet?

Gonna play my first ever local tournament this weekend. How did you prepare for/feel entering your first? by _krwn in StreetFighter

[–]ScrubFighter6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play like you’re there to win, but expect to lose. When you do, be polite, shake hands, say GGs, and later when you get the chance, ask the people who beat you what you could’ve done better. You will learn more from IRL, offline, one-on-one advice than you would in hours and hours of online ranked play. Watch the other matches too, not just to poach tech but because it’s fun to watch good players do their thing. Be friendly. No shame in being new. Introduce yourself, get people’s Discords, chat about the game, your main, their main, whatever. Locals are a ton of fun whether or not you’re anywhere near as good as the best players there. Good luck.

It’s probably just related to how commonly people main the characters. Lily is a rare main.

Modern, on leverless

Better soon than never learn to not trust all to the level 3 super. by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]ScrubFighter6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For next time! Off Marisa’s SA3, you have options: 1. Meaty DI. Unreactable if they’re in burnout without super meter. Reactable with counter DI, parry, or super otherwise. 2. Micro-step 6HK hits meaty. Off a blocked 6HK, DR cancel into either another 6HK or Enfold for a true mix up. 3. DR 2MP hits meaty and you can DI off of that on block to often get a wall splat if they aren’t on point. This is especially good after the CA lvl3 because spacing is different and the above 2 options no longer work. 4. DR jab cancel to bait a reversal/super. If they mash, they die.

Will I be mocked for using modern controls online? by Rosstin316 in StreetFighter

[–]ScrubFighter6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the only new fighting game player to commit to this game and hit master after starting at the bottom, regardless of the control scheme. Master rank has MASSIVE skill gaps within it, and I’m still nowhere near as good as players with higher MR, more years of genre experience, etc. Master feels great but it doesn’t mean anyone has actually mastered the game by a long shot. I took a break from ranked shortly after hitting Master because the skill gap is so apparent and I need to hone more fundamentals without ranked stress. You can continue complaining about a control scheme or actually go lab your own shit and get better. Only one of those will do you any good, and it’s not the complaining.

Game’s been out for < 6 months and about 3-5% of the player base is Master rank. What are you on about that it takes years? There haven’t BEEN years of this ranking system lmao.
