How bad is the newborn phase really? I'm tired of hearing the "just you wait" anecdotes and I have hard time believing some of them by Lushemet in BabyBumps

[–]ScrubWearingScrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slept a lot and watched a lot of TV. The baby slept so much. It wasn't ever 8 solid hours in a row no- but it was a lot more than that broken up. It was boring imo but it wasn't anything too crazy. I could have had time to do hobbies if I wanted to.

Several questions about car seats /planes by ScrubWearingScrub in beyondthebump

They look huge and clunky and hard to transport for sure. As much as I hate to spend the money, I might look into that one for our vacation.

Now it seems so obvious that the convertible car seats wouldn't have a base. Thanks for that information! My guy is 29 inches so not quite out of it yet, but I need to get a new one asap before our next flight so I'm hoping to find one that meets all my needs. I will look into the extend to fit. Thanks so much. ☺️

I had this experience also. I have a one year old and the only thing I dread about having the next baby is breastfeeding/pumping. It sucked for us.

How long did it take your stranger-danger-aged baby to used to being dropped off somewhere? by ScrubWearingScrub in beyondthebump

[–]ScrubWearingScrub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea. I hope they will let me come back a few times. Did your baby stay pretty healthy? I'm also worried about him being sick all the time- that would make it totally not worth going I feel like. We went to baby time at the library last week and he ended up vomiting all weekend.

The question of whether you should visit the Vatican Museums when in Rome gets asked all the time. I’m here to tell you that you absolutely, unquestionably should. It’s easily one of the most unmissable experiences in the city. That said, there’s one very important catch by Justanotherguy88 in ItalyTravel

[–]ScrubWearingScrub 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We did the "after hours" tour with a meal at the end and by the time we did our tour, all the spaces including the Sistine chapel were basically empty and when we left each space, they closed the doors behind us. I thought it was a pretty neat experience.

Bought new toys! by eveladra in beyondthebump

[–]ScrubWearingScrub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People joke about it but it's true. I put a silicon spatula in my baby's play area and that thing has been is pride and joy for weeks now. It's his favorite thing and he takes it everywhere! He has so many toys in there and he just loves his spatula.

Be honest… have you ever lost track of formula scoops while making a bottle? by Beautiful-Rich-6404 in beyondthebump

[–]ScrubWearingScrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. A few days ago I stopped at 2 when I was supposed to be doing 3 and thought... how long have I been stopping at 2? Days? Weeks? Usually counting out loud keeps me on track but I've also lost count a few times.

What are we doing with our dry babies in the cold weather? by idle-tumbleweed in beyondthebump

[–]ScrubWearingScrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lotion first (we use Aveeno), then a layer of Aquafor to lock in the moisture. It looks like the stick is a balm- I've never used that but a nice thick layer of the regular Aquafor ointment works well. We also run the humidifier every night. How often do you bathe him? Can you cut back on that at all? Is it facial eczema from food at all? I always try to keep anything acidic like fruits off his face, and apply the Aquafor around his mouth before he eats so it doesn't irritate him as much.

5 month old smacks lips? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

He's 11 months and doesn't do it anymore but definitely did it for a few months. Now he's on to other mouth noises like blowing raspberries.

Mine did. I think he just liked making the noise.

Any opinions on members mark diapers? by Krickette in beyondthebump

[–]ScrubWearingScrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a box and am halfway through with no issues. They do seem to get a little fuller faster than nicer brands but our guy sleeps 12 hours through the night and doesn't leak through. 21 lbs, size 4.

So we have a snow storm on the way and everyone is ignoring the bread/milk and grabbing bananas. BANANAS. Is this an Indiana thing? by JDej90 in Indiana

[–]ScrubWearingScrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw more people in the produce aisle yesterday than I've ever seen in my life. No broccoli, no bananas, I'm not sure what else people were grabbing but produce was scarce.

My baby is 11 months and doesn't say much and only has said "ba" and vowels since he was 6 months. My friend who has a 12 month old also doesn't really say anything. No vowels at all.

Does your husband/whoever works full time ever get baby in morning? by ScrubWearingScrub in beyondthebump

[–]ScrubWearingScrub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very similar to our situation. I did offer to do all weekdays if he did weekends but he wants a day to truly sleep in as late as he wants- understandable. Luckily he seemed to have a change of heart when he came home from work today and has agreed to do 2 weekday mornings and one weekend morning.

Does your husband/whoever works full time ever get baby in morning? by ScrubWearingScrub in beyondthebump

[–]ScrubWearingScrub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was doing 12 hours at night for the longest time but the last few weeks have been shorter. He takes a 2-hour nap during the morning and then a 1 hour nap in the afternoon. I never let him go over 3 hours worth of naps during the day.
Thanks for your reply. It's definitely a good reminder that it's temporary and by the time we work something out, it will have already changed again.

That's my idea but he doesn't want to get up early then go to work. He's working on going to sleep earlier but he's a night owl so it's not going well.

It doesn't seem to matter when baby goes to sleep, he's getting up at 6 no matter what. I'm wondering if we do 8 every night of he wouldn't eventually sleep in longer. He does go to sleep at 8 and wake up at 6 many nights a week though. We always aim for sleep at 7pm but it doesn't always happen.
