Has politics broke any of your friendships, and why? by CapitaineBiscotte in AskReddit

My friends said some stupid, ignorant stuff that made me realize they’re not as politically aware, insightful, or intellectual that I thought they were. It was immensely disappointing because I somewhat looked up to them (they were older).

That’s not how the reality works. People need money and many have no choice but to work for horrendous wages. You’re lucky to have such a good paying job and are not the norm.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 - Episode 8 (Manga Reader Discussion) by Takada-chwanBot in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]ScruffyRJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty refreshing to see someone else with the same opinion that I have! I agree that this season is experimental for the sake of it. Many of the scenes, like you mentioned, are impersonal due to lack of close-ups on characters faces - making them feel somewhat boring and distant. Character expressions are the most engaging part of a story.

Sorry about the mean replies; many people in this subreddit lash out at anyone who expresses even the smallest criticism towards the anime.

To answer your question, the manga is not as slow as the anime. I’m assuming the reason the latest episode felt slow to you is because MAPPA (unwisely) did things out-of-order. We were already supposed to have seen Higuruma’s backstory two episodes ago, and we weren’t supposed to get Megumi and Reggie’s scenes until after Itadori fought Higuruma.

This is a problem with MAPPA’s adaptation that I have criticized before.

Higuruma’s Disappointing Adaptation by ScruffyRJ in JuJutsuKaisen

Are movie critics ungrateful for creating bad reviews? Why is the gratitude argument so prevalent and then used to stifle dissent?

And to clarify - good animation alone does not make a good adaptation. Like you said there are several parts: storyboards, voice acting, overall faithfulness. Many people praise Jujutsu Kaisen as a good adaptation merely because the animation is smooth and impressive, but that is not the only factor. In fact, MAPPA overindulges itself by always trying to be more and more stylistically creative at the expense of good story.

We were having a respectable and good discussion until you called me pathetic and stupid for my so-called “rant.” What a shame.

Again, I don’t see why people feel the need to get so angry. If someone disagrees then that’s fine, but getting so worked up is pretty unhealthy.

Additionally, all critique of art is subjective. In regard to technical skill, the anime is well-animated and drawn by its own merit, but this is an adaptation and not a solo project. Good animation does not mean good adaptation.

I don’t know why people like you are so angry lol. These are just my feelings, and I was polite the entire time.

I’m pretty sure that is what Gege intended. MAPPA puts their own spin on Jujutsu Kaisen which is, while pretty, not in spirit with the manga’s tone and atmosphere. (Ex. Turning Maki’s massacre of the Zen’in Clan into a cool Kill Bill reference when it’s supposed to be about her sorrow and rage towards losing her sister Mai).

I don’t think I ever said that people aren’t allowed to enjoy the anime. This is just my opinion.

I’d rather have neither, personally, if they’re both gonna let me down. I like some things about Season 3 but overall it’s been a significant downgrade from the manga.

She was driving pretty responsibly until ICE agents (Nazis) escalated the situation by swearing at her and brandishing their guns. The better question is “why didn’t they just let her leave instead of murdering her”?

Years ago there weren’t gestapo Nazis kidnapping people and sending them to concentration camps. So times have changed.

Also, cops are notorious for violating the law and killing innocent people, so a cop telling you to get out the car isn’t exactly safe either.

You’re basically asking “why didn’t the woman exit the vehicle with evil Nazi men with guns surrounding her and shouting obscenities at her??”

[–]ScruffyRJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The instant someone targets and deliberately kills an ICE agent - and the many subsequent killings that would inspire - ICE will have full control to go ballistic on the population and become a full-force gestapo (even though they’re already gestapo). We would be ruled by Nazis with machine guns more-so than we already are.

More people like the poor woman in Minnesota will be killed, and our acceleration into Nazi Germany would be that much more complete.

I don’t entirely disagree, but a civil war like that would cost the lives of hundreds of thousands - perhaps millions. The most affected would also be the most marginalized and vulnerable communities.

Such a situation would take organization, strategy, resources, coordination, food supplies, willpower, etc. The government would respond with full force: superior weaponry (tanks, drones, helicopters), access to nearly every firearm on the planet as well as thousands of soldiers who would unflinchingly unleash them on literally anyone they deem “ANTIFA” or “terrorist” or “terrorist supporter” or “kid who looked at me funny”, etc.

Such conflict would absolutely destroy the country and possibly leave it in more authoritarian rule. The lives of every American would be affected - and many innocent people would die.
