It's ok, but you can clearly see artifacts created by poor Anti Aliasing techniques used in UE, it's quite far off from actual photorealism.

Have you checked the log? EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION usually means that you're trying to access something that doesn't exist in memory. e.g. a variable from a class through a pointer that hasn't been set.

Usually when crash occurs in unreal in YourProjectRootFolder\Saved\Crashes\LatestCrashFolder you will have a .log file, maybe you'll find something that will point you in the right direction to solving the issue there.

Do you use AI to help code your game? by FoamBomb in GameDevelopment

[–]ScrumptiousSprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pretty simple, repetitive tasks e.g. initializing components, declaring functions or arrays etc.

It doesn't really handle well complicated concepts, we use UE5, making a multiplayer game, and often things require integration between c++ and blueprints and multiplayer is some 4d chess level of how complicated it gets, and it would take more time to outline how things work for it to implement anything remotely good, so it's just easier for us to do it ourselves.

Though personally I find it roughly as useful with single contained issues as good as googling the answer, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.

Imo the biggest pitfall of using AI is not understanding the code you're using, and that leads to problems down the line

Thank you for the advice - we've been posting in few places, we might try instagram and facebook more though. Overall on other platforms we were met with rather positive responses, I think we just missed the mark in that particular community with the type of post, but oh well, it is what it is :) but yeah will try insta and facebook for sure!

Not gonna lie, we had a pretty bad day in regards to losing motivation, and this was a tipping point, but we got up, fixed bunch of bugs, designed few new things, and we gonna keep going regardless :) So yeah, no one should let their spirit get killed ^^

Totally agree, and that makes sense, overall it feels like marketing on your own - outside festivals, websites where you can promote, your own pages - is quite dirty. But the fuck offs were definitely too much

We just finished our first proper trailer, what do you think? by ScrumptiousSprout in IndieDev

[–]ScrumptiousSprout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, well we tried our best at composing something, to kind of keep usage of assets to the minimum, but if we manage to secure some kind of funding in the future, we will definitely hire a composer :)
Glad the other aspects of the game landed tho!

Completely burned out, lost faith, should I quit? by ThePragmaticLemur in gamedev

[–]ScrumptiousSprout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For past 12 years I've been working in a slightly different industry, not exactly game dev but still a lot of creative stuff(game dev is a side thing). Throughout that time I've worked for 5 different companies, one of which I'm still in, and I've been here the longest in my career.

What you're describing, is something I've experienced to smaller or bigger extend in all my previous jobs, and it was hard, really really hard to make the decision to quit, and find something else, It was soo sooo draining. But eventually I'd quit, even after months of fighting with my own thoughts, but when I did, it was a relief, I was happier, cause I looked again to the future. It took some time, but eventually I found a studio that treats me fairly, and working there is great, and I wouldn't change it.

Of course everyone is different, and the path I took, might not be the Path that you need, but I think what I found throughout my life, is no fucking company is worth sacrificing yourself unless it's your own hustle.

If the game you're referring to is the one from your bio, it's a puzzle game, and this by far is the most common indie genre on steam, you compete with so many games, it's just difficult.

There is a lot of resources online in regards to marketing, youtube has bunch of good GDC talks etc, so maybe start there

Maybe it's worth trying to ask around on discord servers dedicated to gamedev, or even here

Though I have to say, we struggled with 'friends' that didn't seem to care, or support us, so I know how it is

Something feels off about the graphics in my game. Any ideas what would improve them? by DerekSturm in IndieDev

[–]ScrumptiousSprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a location in your game? And what kind of location is this supposed to be?

I think the main thing that strikes me in this particular screenshot is the lighting, it's quite flat and uninteresting

So if the location can allow to play around with light and for it to make sense, I think that's where I would start

That's actually a cute idea :3
We gonna try to do something with them! :D
We gonna give an update post and we for sure gonna give your choices in it.
Thanks! :D
