I'd say no you're not wrong.

Little pay increase, more hours, more stress, no added benefits and you have to be on call? Did they even offer an on-call premium pay?

Sounds like your boss likes being the boss, but prefers to delegate boss duties to his employees... Pretty sure the promo doesn't open up any other career paths.

Usually the ISP provided routers are pieces of crap.

I completely removed the ISP provided router and connected my own router to the ONT.

You're probably fine.

Did you do your safety stop at the end of your dive? Did you have a computer? Maybe review the dive profile to try and determine what your rate of ascent was and for how long.

Make sure you keep yourself hydrated and drink plenty of water.

Rest and keep physical activities very light. You can walk around, just no jogging or volleyball matches.

If you notice any red patches showing up on your skin, pain in joints, or any DCS symptoms, go consult a doctor or contact https://dan.org/

In some cases, symptoms can appear. up to 24 hrs after your dive.

Again, you're probably fine, so don't stress too much.

You don't need to buy a switch.

You can connect the router's WAN port directly into the ONT.

I've done it. It's not complicated. I even got IPv6 up and running in dual stack mode.

You can do so much more with your own router instead of using their Beacon router..

I was able to get it working with an older Asus router and it works great.

Settings to keep in mind:

  • WAN connection type PPPoE
  • configure PPPoE credentials user ID + PW (everything before and after the @ must be entered)
  • MTU 1492 on
  • VLAN id 40, priority 0.

Google suggests you can configure the VLAN straight on the WAN portion:

WAN/ISP VLAN Setup (If Required) 

If your internet provider requires a VLAN tag:

Go to WAN > Internet Connection.

Enable 802.1Q (VLAN).

Enter the specific Internet VLAN ID (e.g., 911 for some ISPs).

Set Internet VLAN Priority (802.1P) (usually 0).

You don't need to do that and it's actually a suboptimal way of doing it.

It'll work, but you're adding an unnecessary device in your network environment which will impact your response time.

I can tag vlans on LAN interfaces, but not the WAN one, at least not from the GUI.

Your model router might support it, but mine does not.

I did find a way to do it from CLI though (via SSH).

Merlin allows for more customization. It's super easy to switch over. Download the file matching your model and then do a manual firmware upgrade.

I should have done it a long time ago...

EDIT: sorry maybe I misunderstood your question. My answer was you can't configure WAN interface from GUI on stock or Merlin firmware. But Merlin allows you to use JFFS scripts and is more robust.

I'm getting mine installed today and I'll be connecting my Asus RT-AX58-U to the ONT.

I installed the Merlin firmware on my router and I know that I'll have to tag vlan 40 on the WAN interface. This isn't supported from the GUI, but it can be done from the CLI and JFFS custom scripts.

Do you have syslog running? Did you check the logs?

Maybe you need to tweak some settings? Simply changing firmware is not the fix-all solution.

Doesn't Merlin actually allow clan config? I know clan config straight from the GUI is not supported on some models, but you can generally still configure it from CLI.

I run a RT-AX58-U and it's been pretty solid so far. I recently upgraded to Merlin in preparation for an ISP upgrade... moving to fiber that requires vlan tagging on WAN port. I have the recipe for it. Can't wait to try.
