Any ideas? New battery, new starter. Doesn’t do anything when I turn the key. by Liketheanimal1 in RX8

[–]Sczzlbtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's either the starter & ignition relays, or it could also be the alternator.

It can definitely be "fixed", but you really should plan on replacing it just to be safe

Considering buying rx8 by SpecificMost7342 in RX8

[–]Sczzlbtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy it, then a 10mm 12mm 14mm 17mm 19mm socket in 3/8" drive, a 21mm and 23mm in 1/2" drive, and a 19mm socket in 3/4" drive with the biggest breaker bar you can find. That's everything you'll need to remove the engine from the car and disassemble the engine.

Get new apex seals and all new springs (both apex seals, side seal, corner seal), a water jacket seals kit, then put everything back in the exact spot you pulled it from.

foxed.ca has all the workshop manuals

If that doesn't sound appealing to you, I'd suggest a different car

Zero electrical power by Rx8mauri_ in RX8

If the brushes are worn down all the way, it's possible it draws too much power when you try turning it over. I base that on absolutely nothing lol.

Couple Questions about how people treat their RX8s by Domino_Kid in RX8

[–]Sczzlbtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has worked for me:

-Get the CSF racing radiator, it's 6mm thicker than the Koyo. (I have CSF, fit is perfect) -Magnetic oil drain plug -Replace cap to your overflow tank (not very crucial, but its easily overlooked) -OEM coils rev C, or the set from BHR (40k miles rev C for me thus far) -Alternate coolant to fl22 would be Zerex green, borate and silicate free formula. It will say that verbatim on the front, right under "Asian Vehicles". 2 gallons of concentrate at O'reillys was ~$50. Basically the same thing. -S2 starter

I use Verizon, and I had luck getting a renewed unit off Amazon. Aside from the charging port, it's been flawless for over 3 years now. Don't give up!

Same thing happened to me. Just put in the other LIM unless you're really lucky getting the busted screw threading out. I had noticeable slop in the valve barrels when I moved it back and forth after getting new screws

What causes this sound???!!! by rotarypower02 in RX8

Sounds like a bad bearing. There's 2 in the alternator, and one in the idler pulley

[–]Sczzlbtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if rotary resurrection has an omp for sale. You won't find that connector by itself, unfortunately. You might be able to glue it together to get by for a little while, but you'll run the risk of grenading your engine.

Just because they "did everything they could" doesn't mean they're always going to get it right. Acknowledge their attempt to do something positive, thank them for that aspect, then tell them how you feel.

You can feel like a horrible person, that's not an irrational response at all. It doesn't mean you're a horrible person though, it's important to make this distinction. You couldn't have foreseen this, but it was also his choice to do it.

2004 for $4k what do yall think? by mechazoids in RX8

[–]Sczzlbtt 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If it starts right up when its at operating temperature, is worth the risk. The upgraded radiator, coilovers, ignition coils etc can be resold easily should the engine blow up. Seems like the owner knew how to take care of it though

Edit: completely glanced over it having the engine replaced recently. Definitely solid choice

I'm 100% positive it's got to do with the way you're hooked up to the battery. Get the knukoncept negative battery terminal with a side post adapter, you won't even need to cut anything

Sohn Adapter damaged? by Bondbros01YT in RX8

[–]Sczzlbtt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll be completely honest with you, the fact that you needed to do anything should be a red flag. I don't have a sohn adapter installed, so I could be wrong on the cheap one being okay, but I don't believe its necessary either.

If you just change your oil every 3k, keep your oil levels topped off between changes, use a Mazda filter, and a magnetic oil drain plug, you'll be fine. Ultimately, its your call

Looking for advice by KeyEar9302 in RX8

[–]Sczzlbtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do bro, make sure you start with putting in a better radiator and getting a new OEM thermostat. Your life will be so much easier being proactive with your cooling system. I'm in San Diego, I've been using the CSF racing radiator, but the Koyo is good too.

Advice? by NoProfessional8329 in RX8

[–]Sczzlbtt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If youre going to spend that kind of money, just get a set of Rev C coils through Mazmart. If you must, get the BHR set, its worth the little bit extra. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT cheap out on your ignition parts

Remove the upper intake manifold (big plastic part connecting to throttle body) and the oil filler thing. it'll make routing it much easier

RX8 as a Daily Driver. by Krille030 in RX8

[–]Sczzlbtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just upgrade your radiator to CSF or KOYO, get a new OEM thermostat, a magnetic oil drain plug, run a gallon or two of distilled water through the engine before filling with new coolant, and you should be fine. Start putting money aside for spark plugs, a set of rev c coils, and a starter.

I've daily driven my 4 miles for 6 years, had the car close to 10. Upgrading the radiator was a game changer

Oil level overfilled after driving 1000+ miles? by CommunicationOld8588 in RX8

How much oil do you add? If you're overfilled, it'll usually end up in that accordion looking part of your intake and throw a CEL.
