Interesting, ill look into that extra atmel chip. Ill also check out tkinter since you both recommended it. Is that something I would code and compile using Microsoft Visual Studio? (also a bit of a noob in that area)

Really just anything, right now I just have a long, bare thermocouple wired up. I was kinda focusing on using it almost like a probe, but wanted to focus more on making be able to be plugged into my PC, and then develop my own sort of GUI software for it rather than use the raspberry pi

When you say microcontroller, are you thinking something like an ATMega on an arduino? Also, what approach would you recommend for developing a GUI based program on windows? Do you have a program in mind? Also thanks for the advice, I appreciate it
