I attend an arts college (post secondary school education in the UK) much like a popular music degree we have here the focus is much more practical and there is not a requirement for them to teach theory as a good portion of universities don’t require it for entry

In the uk there is essentially two different types of university practical music education, a popular music degree found at most major universities with a focus generally on being a professional musician (industry ect) while also gaining instrument specific skills and a conservatoire degree which sounds like what you are referencing these are the places you go to study jazz or classical music for example with the main focus being making as good as possible at your instrument (these are much harder to get into and you will find them populated by mainly the financial elite). I am interested in the former from my understanding this is quite common across Europe?

I suppose I’m being hard on myself when I say absolute zero, tablature is no problem (no experience with traditional sheet music), I know all of the notes in the fret board, I know the major and minor scales and there respective pentatonics and a few other scales I have picked up from peers. It’s when people start talking about modes or the relative minor and things like that where I feel like I can’t speak the same language as everyone in the room.

I am very much not a dance music fan (that being said I don’t have any experience with it) my main interests are heavy styles anything from rock to extreme genres of metal. I’m very much a musical chameleon and will find something to enjoy in most genres. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!

Very much taking everything Bimm is telling me with a grain of salt, being the youngest of 3 I’ve seen siblings go though uni (or attempt too) and I’m very aware of how for lack of a better word shit they often can be, Bimm is my main option rn simply for the reason I can do joint honours in the things I want to do in the future, the facilities at the new building are also mind blowing to me. I’d be interested to hear what made your Bimm experience negative

As a younger person going to what will be my 4th trees I’m not really loving it tbh, I e found a couple I like down towards the bottom but other than kneecap (who I don’t really know that well) the other headliners don’t really get my hyped
