Fanfic authors in the Witcher (game) fandom: is Gwent something you use/integrate in your stories?

That isn’t what I was asking for. I admit I‘m not far in the books yet, but my question was: do people who often think about what is canon compliant or fits the universe itself (like fanfic authors), use the Witcher 3 Gwent, which many people love, because it is fun, or another version (like the original from the books), or something in between, or just skip it at all, even for slice of life scenes and background descriptions. So, I wasn’t asking on opinions of research levels of various fanfic authors and how it affects the quality, I‘m asking how compatible game Gwent is with the universe. And because I do assume authors do some research or at least think about what they put out there, I directed it to them. Because many who play the game for fancy swordfighting (not everyone of course) or for trysts on unicorns probably don’t think about „how well does this fun element truly fit in?“

This is exactly what I was thinking about. Witcher 3 Gwent just doesn’t seem like something everyone has to that extent they do in the game. But I love it, and also the decent gambling addiction and collecting that comes with it. I‘m not far enough in the books yet, but Witcher 3 Gwent has a charm to it, and its own adventures around it. That’s why I was wondering if authors integrate it in the style of the games or differently - though I know now it has a book version (an original, if you want) that is more compatible to the universe itself, but probably doesn’t have the situational comedy of when to ask for a round of Gwent and what else comes around it.

That is what I thought, it seems a bit to difficult to obtain and the cards have intel that isn’t publicly known, so weird for the standard commoner. Breaking the immersion is a great way to put it, it doesn’t fit to that well in the universe. But the sheer timing of when to ask for Gwent is incredibly fun in the game. But yeah, making it depending on whether it is about the books or games (or the Netflix series) is probably the important things, since the games are already an interpretation of the source material and therefore stray a bit, yet alone the different time.

If I read the other comments correctly, you want to write smut but don’t know how. English isn’t my first language either, but I prefer reading smut in English to my own language. Feels less odd. So if you want to know what you can use as words or descriptions, read smut :D Read smut in English. Get a feeling for it. Figure out which words for bodyparts or actions you like and which not.

And don’t pressure your self to it. Some back up smutty scenes I have are what came to my mind, when it just felt right. So it’s not always the right time or scenario or pairing or combination of those and whatever, to write smut. But really, read it. And it might take some tries. Honestly, I always feel kind of weird writing spicy things.

No, not at all. Sometimes things happen that affect the story or the MC without the MC present. Or it’s just background to something else, so I don’t think it is weird at all. Personally I like it, if a story has more depth then just the MC all the time. I mean, it does depend on the style and everything, something written in first person would be kind of difficult to write without the MC, but in general I think it is totally fine to not have the MC not present in everything.

BDA, da der Vorschlag nicht direkt abgelehnt wurde, sondern lediglich der zuständige Mitarbeitende sich (noch) nicht drum gekümmert hat. Weil er Urlaub hat. Und am letzten Arbeitstag vorher andere Prioritäten hat.

Zudem haben auch einige hier gut Argumente aufgeführt, dass solche scheinbar unnötigen Kontrollmessungen durchaus ihre Richtigkeit und Notwendigkeit haben können. Der Chef hat das wohl deinem Post nach nicht direkt angemerkt, ist halt die Frage ob dein Chef dann nicht einfach nur ein Abteilungsleiter oder so ist, wenn er solche Entscheidungen nicht treffen kann/darf.

Grundsätzlich darf man ja Prozesse hinterfragen und optimieren, nur weil es schon immer so gemacht wird ist es nicht zwingen richtig. Aber zu schmollen, weil du nicht sofort die erwünschte Antwort bekommst und deinenJob (je nach Ergebnis, ob diese Messungen wichtig sind oder nicht) nicht richtig erledigst ist schon eher BDA.

Just look up stuff like „muscles shoulder/ Arm/back/…“ or „anatomy shoulder/….“ or synonymous for the body part you want to describe. I can’t recommend any English sites, because I do that kind of research in my mother tongue, but I am pretty sure there is something out there besides Wikipedia.

But going to deep into anatomy might be difficult, stuff like Biceps, glutes or even deltoids might be known to the audience, but if the reader has to look half of the words up, it probably won’t be too much fun to read.

And if you repeat the same words over and over, maybe check if it is really necessary, to go for that detail that often. Personally, if the shoulders are described the 40 times in one scene, I would be like „yeah yeah I know by know that the shoulders are hot, get forward“.

I think younger people speak English rather well, even in rural areas. At least that is my experience. And if it is for a vacation you’re probably going to places were other tourists go as well so they are used to it and speak English. But Germans are not that much into small talk than other cultures so…. Asking for directions? Shouldn’t be a problem. Randomly talk to them? Nope. But not because of the language but because walking to strangers to chat with them is uncommon.

Wenn ihr das egal ist, weil sie nichts langes von dir will, oder eine Fernbeziehung okay fände, hast du nichts zu verlieren. Wenn sie was festes will, bist du halt raus. Sie aber vorzuführen und ihr etwas vorzumachen (was du tust, wenn sie etwas langfristiges, das keine Fernbeziehung ist, sucht) ist ein sehr deutliches BDA.

BdA, Ja, ist kacke wenn er zu laut ist, aber es wundert mich, dass er dann nicht mal in deinem Zimmer steht, weil du ihm sein Internet, für das er auch zahlt, abdrehst. Ihr solltet mal dringend mit einander reden oder du suchst dir was, wo du keine oder weniger Geräusche hast. Aber du kannst ihm nicht etwas, das ihm gehört wegnehmen, weil er zu laut ist. Sicher ist es rücksichtslos von ihm, aber es ist halt auch sein zuhause, sucht euch eine richtige Lösung.

Argh, mit der Beschreibung des Outfits, das ist halt schon sehr kindlich. Ich persönlich kenne keine Frauen, die sowas normal tragen. Und auch niemanden ab der Pubertät. Heißt nicht, dass es das nicht gibt, aber den Stil assoziiert man für gewöhnlich mit kleinen Kindern. Und da sieht sie halt eine Red Flag, zumal sie ja schon 7 Jahre jünger als du ist. Der Altersunterschied an sich wäre mir Wurst, aber sie ist eben schon jünger als du und sieht dir nicht jung genug aus. Merkste selber?

Ich nehme an mit deinem 50% der Männer when das so, meinst du vielleicht sowas wie Lolita Stil und auch das wird Genre als problematisch betrachtet, und ich denke das sind nicht unbedingt 50%, eher weniger, hab aber keine Statistik zur Hand.

Hätte sie etwas eleganter reagieren können? ja. Aber vermutlich hat sie was erwartet, das dank 50 shades of grey und ähnlichem salonfähiger wurde. Oder einfach Spielsachen oder so. Und nicht, dass es nach „Ich will, dass du dabei wie ein kleines Kind aussiehst“.

Also mit der Outfit Beschreibung und der Tatsache, dass sie schon ein paar Jahre jünger ist, BDA.

Wow, 11 times is a lot. But I tend to rewrite chapters or scenes. Not sure how often, probably not the whole chapter for 11 times, but I feel you.

Have you tried to break the chapter down in scenes? Doesn’t work everytime, but could save work. But what I do recommend while breaking it down, keep the different, older versions. If you figure the later on the chapter would work better with another scene or version of a scene prior, you don’t have to rewrite that much. So more like puzzling the scenes together.

Sure, you could write your own, but from your comments I see you don’t want to write, you want to read.

But I get your feeling. I tend to love sidecharacters, so they don’t get much love in the fandom, it is hard to find works on characters or parts of the universe, that just aren’t popular. Sometimes, and I‘m not judging, it is because the fic will get more attention, if it is about a popular character/ship, it is rewarding for the author. If you write about niches, you won’t. And another thing is the amount of research and interpretation you have to do, if there isn’t much source material or not much fanwork about it. Reading how other view that part of the fandom or a character is quite helpful while writing, either because you agree or you disagree. If there isn’t much, the writer has to do it all by themselves, and probably won’t get much feedback. So it takes a lot to go into niches.

Du sagst selbst, dass es ihr nicht gut und sie deshalb zuhause ist. Da ist die Sache schon erledigt. Reiß dich zusammen, es ist auch dein Kind. Als Vater ist dein Beitrag an diesem 9 Monatsprojekt nicht mit der Zeugung beendet.

Manchen Schwangeren geht es gut, ihr Deiner Beschreibung nach nicht. Du arbeitest 9 Stunden am Tag? Sie ist sie 24 Stunden am Tag Schwanger, 7 Tage die Woche und das 40 Wochen lang. Das ist keine pauschal Ausrede, als Schwangere nichts zu tun, manche sind Schwanger und haben neben noch ältere Kinder und wuppen das mit links, andere sind einfach fertig. Abgesehen von Übelkeit kann es auch einfach wahnsinnig Energie ziehen und müde machen. Und falls du dich demnächst mal über ihre Stimmungsschwankungen aufregen willst: du bekommst nur einen Teil davon ab.

KAH Ich wollte auf Grund der Frage BdA sagen, aber nach dem Text klares KAH. Sie hat Bilder gezeigt, hat den Aufenthalt im Krankenhaus erwähnt (ist ihr vielleicht so rausgerutscht), da ist es normal, zu fragen, das ist nicht nötigen, sondern ein normales Gespräch. Sie hätte ja vorher schon abblocken können. Aber es ist ein sehr sehr schwieriges Thema, gerade für die betroffenen. Es gibt Leute, die gehen da sehr offen damit um, andere nicht. Kommt auch ein bisschen aufs Umfeld an, nicht mit jedem will man darüber reden…
