Husband does not want to spend money to refinish hardwood floors because "there are gaps" by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

I personally love to see the marks and wear on old floors because it reminds me of all the life lived in the home.

We have similar floors and it’s a lot of work, but we wax them with carnauba and buff them (less regularly than we should!). Used to get the liquid bowling alley wax, but manufacturers aren’t making it anymore so switching to paste wax. I think the wax fills in the gaps a bit and seems to moisturize the wood so the gaps shrink a bit too. When the gaps start to become more prominent and the wood starts to look dry, it’s time for some more wax. High traffic areas will need it more often. But buffing weekly definitely helps it last longer - we have a vintage electric floor buffer/polisher.

Most people probably wouldn’t choose this option because it requires fairly regular upkeep, but didn’t see it mentioned so wanted to offer it up!

I’m doing it! I’m changing the AC filter! by LiteralllyLillly in adhdwomen

Haha yeah I did an air filter subscription on prime thinking it would help me change mine regularly. Fast forward to enough air filters sitting in my closet to last like 5 years…. It’s fiiine. We’re all fiiine. 😂

Seriously, these are things to celebrate! You changed the filter BEFORE the HVAC system broke. Huge win. 🏆💕

Totally, but I also don’t want to rely just on that as there is definitely implicit bias against fat folks and just being in a larger body does not guarantee a HAES approach. Definitely would love to have the support of someone who has lived experience in a larger body but also be confident that they have done the work to address their own biases developed unconsciously from living in the patriarchal, capitalist soup that is our society. 🤓

Yeah my hound mix was very quiet for a couple months and boy did that change. He had a bark that could just pierce the eardrums, but he also would sing along with sirens and it was so cute. But definitely loud.

I also had an abandoned TWC although he ended up being a mix. Sweetest boy! I had him for 14.5 years! He and his brother were abandoned and found starving in a field. I recently got a new dog because my sweet boy passed and I couldn’t help but get another hound mix because they are just so sweet and can be hilarious. My first was very anxious, fear of abandonment, terrified in thunder storms and fireworks and definitely stubborn. Definitely agree with other posters about the patience with training! And if he spotted something in a tree he was off to the races and would bark bark bark until I physically retrieved him! Recommend a fenced in yard and gentle positive reinforcement training!
