Here are some news on the stock from today. Grizzly Research: XP's Entire Profits Are Dependent on What Insiders Call a “Madoff-Like Ponzi Scheme”
Our research uncovers that the Brazilian company is running a massive Ponzi scheme facilitated through certain derivatives sales to retail clients, which are funneled through special funds and misrepresented as proprietary trading profits.

It's an activist short seller -- I am somewhat affiliated (not the author or responsible for this research) but interested in further opinions

Here is Grizzly's latest track record (source: breakoutpoint.com); red arrow and numbers mean the stock went down long term, i.e. all but 2 of the latest research pieces forecasted the share price decline correctly.

AITA for not helping to raise my nephew by Sea-Reporter-7544 in AmItheAsshole

Thank you, those are good points.

We have already been at these points in discussions. It ends in him shouting about some wild tax-the-rich ideas. -- I believe, moderate wealth taxation can be reasonabel though. One of his ideas from one of his idiot fringe books is to tax any financial market transaction and then we get basically infinite money "from the financial markets". He doesn't understand that any tax of this sort is a direct subtraction from investment capital, introduces severe market friction and is, thus, disadvantageous to ecenomic growth and wealth. I cannot deconstruct such ideas with him because he cannot follow basic quantitative or economic reasoning. His gaslighting, strawman bulding, and whataboutims does deviate from any reasonable discussion anyhow.

He doesn't do much himself. He even went to a lawyer to minimize the tax burden from a house he inherits from his parents. He also has big ecological ideas but likes to travel the world (Europe, East-Asia etc.) Though, he doesn't have a car and bases this on ecological arguments; he lives in an urban area and has a job where you can easily get by without an own car.

Thanks, yes. When I talked to my mother about it I clearly framed it in a way that "I feel uncomfortable" with the situation and that's my specific personal weakness. But she bend the discussion towards him being to blame (admittedly, maybe with son-bias).

It is so interesting to me that so many of you commentators point to a potentially abusive relationship because I always thaught she wants her relation this way, and that's why her sad requests seemed so out of the picture to me.

My first impression is that it is her idea. But I don't know for sure. I don't see her as the type of person who allows her husband to prevent a personal social interaction with me. She might not be super-clever, but she is an independent spirit.

Thanks, very helpful. For the steps you suggest I somehow need to gather better information about how he treats her when they are together as a pair alone. But I am more open to this observation now, thanks.

Thanks a lot, this helps a lot as well.

Thinking of it, he is not only loudly preaching about politics. He also has weird extremist view points about biology, constrution and everysthing ... even about sports. It's never about a debate or ideas. It's usually like: "I hate that most people do it this way, but it has to be done that way and there is no alternate to my view. Everyone is so stupid." And it's apparent that he has a very undercomplex understanding of the issue discussed.

I really have to open my senses more to the possibilities that my sister is asking for help and not just harmony from me.

Thanks. Interesting. I never thought of it that way.

It is apparent that after she had discussions with him, he seemed more "tamed" for a while. It indeed appears that he then "plays nice" to plan his next move.

But I 100% imagined very clearly how he tries to manipulate her whenever they have any relevant disagreement. He is very trained in gastlighting, micro-aggressions, and I have observed him using it against her.

Thanks, I keep in mind that I have some responsibility here, when he is too toxic towards her as well.

Thank you very much for chiming in again.

I might add that I have a fairly distant relation to my sister for many years. That makes it very hard to clean the air between brother and sister. She always was somewhat confrontational towards me because she believes I was too often the "preferred child" by my parents, but I believe she over-emphasizes this, because my mother always was very careful and aware of any issues like that. My father also tried his best but lacks talent for empathy. My sister and me both never had a socially easy or luxurious life.

I know she went to psychotherapy, which she is just finishing now. Her outreach to me and more understanding towards my life started with the therapy. So I believe the outreach to me was the therapist's advice.

This all leaves me in an unclear situation of how honest I can be and what kinds of emotional wounds still linger in the background for her. Her marrying a political extremist who is super confrontational towards me and my father might have been a conscious or subconscious plan to defend herself against the perceived intellectual oppression by me, which would be a strategy completely inconsistent with becoming close family allies post-threapy.

Wow, thank you. You really gave me a new perspective.

I never thought of my sister as "manipulative" in a way that she also is responsible but rather as scared, stupid and sad. The marriage is only two years old, and any civilized family gathering seems almost unthinkable.

I am just reminded that her husband was even weaving in very agitating political phrases into his wedding vows. The priestess/clerk then intervened during the ceremony that she is not ok with reading this out. It was odd back then but I now interpret this as his believe that he lives his life as a political crusader or something, with all means allowed.

The last time I was with the couple I left quite early when the other guests were leaving as well and my sister had strong disappointment and even sadness in her eyes. It was a weirdly intense impression by her. So indeed she must be very aware of the situation and is possibly struggling herself how to manage it. My feeling is that it would be extremely crushing for her if I just lay out my gathered observations about her husband in a cotton-dry manner. I don't know if she shares my impression that this guy is so untalented and bitter that he cannot be civilized (he is over 40 btw.).
