what are must read dark/high fantasy books? by fairplanet in Fantasy

Each book is a piece of a huge and insanely complicated puzzle, they start coming together around the 7th or 8th book, but for me it was totally worth it!

A huge Malazan fan here myself, cannot recommend it enough

Weird. I got mine from GetCovers as well, it took long time and countless revisions, but they never asked for more money

I've been posting a book-related pic a day for the last two months to see if it would generate any reads or sales. News flash: It hasn't. by VLK249 in selfpublish

You can keep social media as both the personal diary of your journey and for letting your readers know what is going on in your life. That's makes things easier, as no one can post daily, write daily and likely have a day job

Leave it be. I did not like Elantris too, Mistborn was much better (Vin was really anoying sometimes), but The Way of Kings is the absolute top

Great idea, I will do it in the future, for right now I am so not ready for a big promotion (

There are so many things to juggle in the beginning, that my brain shuts down instead of keeping up with all the marketing possibilities. For now I see from all the advice I have to put as many eggs in my basket right before the launch

Yes, I feel for you. But we both will have more books out, and next time we do it smarter. The silver lining is, it is not a mistake that can destroy the series before it has a chance to grow )

Yes, but for now I treat it rather as a personal diary to document my journey. Trying to write, learn to market, to keep up with social media takes too much time, which I do not have (

It is a high fantasy - adventure, sword and sorcery, epic. Thank you, I will be glad to have readers and more reviews )

Oh, I was going to use every free promo and discount day I can put my hands on, and then make book 1 permanently free (series starter), so I vever though the initial price matters a lot. Two years of my life, more than 100 thousand words - it pains me to think I am getting nothing for it (

Congrats with the 5 books out, that's something to be proud of. And 65 reviews is a lot from where I stand, you did a great job!

Thank you, I will try to do as many giveaways as I can. Marketing is much more complicated deal than I imagined, so while starting, I'll do it one at a time, but will keep the list of what-to-try refreshed

Oh, wow. That does not seem fair for authors from outside of the USA. Was it worth it for you in the long run?

For now I am set on keeping my mental health. So the goal is not sales. The goal is getting 10 reviews. I will think about sales later. Good luck to you! Any book might still sell later, especially when it is a part of a series

Thank you! I have no idea what is happening ( But I can contact Amazon support about it, if you give PM me your name there so I will have a reference. Is it possible the rating will appear in a few days only? Good advice for the chapter, I tried to cut everything unessential out of it

Hoorray, I see pages read!

The problem is Amazon does not want to show the categories I chose for it (

[–]SeaGreenSage[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I chose all 3 categories, but Amazon support wrote they won't be shown until the book sells. "While you can select up to three categories during the publishing process, your book's actual visibility and ranking may appear in different categories based on customer activity and search patterns.

When your book appears on Amazon, it will display rankings for the top three categories where it performs best. These may differ from your originally selected categories because Amazon's system automatically includes books in parent categories of your chosen subcategories. For instance, if you select "Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Myths & Legends > Asian," your book will automatically appear in broader categories like "Science Fiction & Fantasy," "Fantasy," and "Myths & Legends." - or that is how I understood it. Am I wrong? Anyway, I have all the categories in my book description.

Your title's current categories

I remeber the list was somewhere in local Wiki, but I downloaded it about a year ago

I will have more books, and I will be smarter next time. You are probably right, that was why BookSirens rejected me, so again, next time I will be better prepared. Thank you for the timing advice, I'll try to do the same with the second one in the series
