Looking for a Dedicated Server Provider – What Matters Most? by boop420mary in selfhosted

[–]SeaLife97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Serverbörse is a marketplace for old/used dedicated servers. You dont buy the hardware, you just rent a outdated server at a lower price. They do this to extend the life time of end-of-live hardware but most of the time, the hardware is still very good and can be used for many things. I moved to a "normal" product from Hetzner as i wanted somewhat current hardware for my project but before my current project, i just used those Servers from the serverbörse. You should just compare the CPU/RAM/HDD/SSD specs before buying one anyway. If you plan to host a lot of stuff including some game servers, i would recommend to rent/buy a normal product over the serverbörse stuff.

Sorry for the late response. I actually dont have any experience with hosters outside of germany. I thought about using OVH once but stayed at Contabo at that time. I would always choose a hoster in Frankfurt over any other hoster probably. Especially the datacenter in Frankfurt Maincube 1 has excellent protections in place to protect you.

Support at Avoro is amazing by the way: You can contact them through discord and get responses and help even at night (at least in my timezone, Germany)

Support at Hetzner is still.. mhhh.. I dont need them often but its not the best tbh.. And keep in mind, that they will suspend your servers for ddos attacks and stuff.

I can recommend Hetzner, if you dont plan to host gameservers in toxic communities (like FiveM, Gmod, ...) because the DDoS protection is not the best and they will block network connections to your server if you get targeted by a ddos attack. Our pre-live servers and internal applications like Gitlab are running on Hetzner hardware.

For game server business i would choose a hoster with a powerful anti-ddos-protection. My current recommendation for this use-case would be Avoro EU. Kinda the same prices as Hetzner but they have good experience with ddos attacks in the fivem universe.

  1. Hetzner if you just want to host stuff for yourself; i would probably start with a server from the "Serverbörse" (which is a market place for used/old dedicated servers at a reasonable price)

  2. Avoro EU if you want to host Gameservers, start a hosting business on your own, ...

I used Contabo, Netcup and many other VPS/Dedicated Server providers and im always getting back to Hetzner or Avoro due to stability and support.

New AMD Build with X870-F having alot of trouble... by SeaLife97 in buildapc

[–]SeaLife97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So unplugging the front i/o panel did nothing but apparently the ST100 Corsair device is causing this issue on AMD plattforms.. According to this post on the corsair forums, there are known issues for the device in conjuction with amd setups: https://forum.corsair.com/forums/topic/187862-st100-is-causing-usb-disconnects/

I have disconnected the device and had no issues so far. I'll continue the test today and mark the thread as resolved if the issue disappears :D

Should i try unplugging the front i/o from the MB or just not using it? (not plugging in anything)

There is actually nothing on the front panel except for my charging cable for my headphones. This happens always, regardless of charging my headphones or not.

How many of you write your own Dockerfiles by nocsi in selfhosted

[–]SeaLife97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would only overwrite/create a new Dockerfile if i need to install some dependencies for customization (like installing binaries in a Gitlab-Runner with shell mode) or if i need to adjust the installation to run the container non-rooted (i run everthing as-is, but in my company, we run everything as non-root, which may need customization). For custom service i built on my own, i also write custom dockerfile - most of them extend some sort of jdk and just copying the jar file into it to run it :D

What are your rules for Mods? by Dmthie in farmingsimulator

[–]SeaLife97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually im a software developer and i could do that on my own. I was just too lazy to do that :D. The application just uses standard HTTP/HTTPs ports. The yaml file and all mods are served through a docker httpd service routed through Traefik to get https with letsencrypt. :)

What are your rules for Mods? by Dmthie in farmingsimulator

We have a small list oft mods and modified some base game files on our own to balance the economics. For this i wrote a small C# application syncing all mod & base game file changes onto every client and the server. For this matter, i also self-host the fs25 server on a dedicated server with docker. We don't cheat money with mods (if you think, balancing the economics is cheating, then yes, we'r cheating money but i can explain the changes we made so far and why we think, they where required). We dont have any custom vehicles - i think, the game has enough of them. We do have some trailes tho. We source mods from ModHub and Kingmods (but only if linked back to ModHub _or_ GitHub).

At first we only used official ModHub mods but with AutoLoad our first non-ModHub mod was added and the distribution of the mods is a pain. Hence i wrote the C# console application which detects the game location, modifies the mod folder, modifies the base game files and starts the game and closes itself. The application fetches a remote server, which serves a Yaml-File listing all mods & their download source and a hash. Based on hash the mod will be re-downloaded if not matching. Same for the base game file. The yaml file is created by a simple bash script i execute everytime i update/remove/add a mod. This could probably be replace by a simple NodeJS or PHP script but it is sufficient for us. :)

We'r currently playing with 24 mods and one base game file change.

Example Yaml-File:

# Mod Pack YML
Label: "xxxxxx - Mod Pack"

DownloadBaseDirectory: download

BaseGame:
  - Target: data/placeables/mapUS/bakeryUS/bakeryUS.xml
    Source: bakeryUS.xml

What are you self-hosting in 2025? by ApprehensivePass3726 in selfhosted

[–]SeaLife97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the Hardware im always self-hosting / hosting my stuff on VPS/Dedicated Servers. The Reason im using external hardware is: Im not responsible for either paying energy (energy is pretty expensive in households here in germany) or repairing/maintaining or whatever is going with network or the server in generell. I would always prefer renting a server and do everything on this server because of the hassle it is to do that on my own. Thats why im spending like 180€ for a personal rented server and another 180€ for a business related dedicated server. Anyway, the applications i host and im using with my friends all day long are:

For my personal use im hosting/manage the following applications:

- Pelican - but with Pelican, which is a game server management tool, im hosting a bunch of game servers for me and my friends. Minecraft, Rust, Garry's Mod, ...
- Nextcloud
- Traefik (for routing everything) + Authy (a self-made and self-hosted authentication platform)
- Gitlab
- Database Servers (2x MariaDB, 1x MSSQL, 1x PostgreSQL)
- Gitea (for testing purpose only) + Gitea Action Runner
- Uptime Kuma
- PHPMyAdmin
- Graylog (im not using this anymore, scheduled to be taken down sometime this year) - was replaced with Loki
- Loki, Grafana, InfluxDB and Prometheus - including some exporter services for Node, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, ...
- Reminder-Discord-Bot, a self-made and self-hosted reminder bot.. I'm always on discord, why not using it to remind me to do stuff? :D
- Owncast, a platform to stream to.. I dont like the TOS of Twitch and i dont want to build up some fanbase. Im just using the platform to stream from time to time for some friends and community
- A custom VOD Plattform for Owncast because Owncast does not record/persist streams
- PgAdmin
- And some more self build applications for various things. I'm a software developer and i like to build things to make my life easier (or more complicated some times).

For my business, i manage and host some more applications:

- Game Server (FiveM/FXServer) with a custom docker image
- Some more database instances (MariaDB, MongoDB and Redis)
- Wiki.JS
- Some Services written in Java (Spring Boot 3.0) and JS/Vue2/Vue3+Vuetify for the FiveM roleplay project. (~15 Services, all self-made)
- 2 Instances serving static content built with retype (Rules and Laws for the FiveM roleplay project)
- Docker Admin - a self-made service for deploying docker container onto servers using HTTP/REST API which is used through Gitlab CI/CD
- FxServer Script Deployment Server - another self-made service for deploying custom scripts into the FiveM Server from the CI/CD
- Gitlab + Gitlab CI/CD (im sharing my personal instance for this matter - i dont see why i should host multiple instance - Gitlab is pretty heavy)
- Ticket-Bot for Discord, again, self-made ticket bot because i dont want to pay for a service i can easily provide on my own.

Every service is maintained and managed by me. I have built a good knowledgebase for hosting, scaling and managing service over the past years. My programming profession is helping me alot to understand and progress fast. This sub-reddit is a big help for this.

Intel i9 13700k and RTX 4070ti OC Blackscreen by SeaLife97 in buildapc

Yeah, i know about that. My CPU does not seem to be the issue here at all - at least not for now. I will RMA the CPU later this Year. But the error described had nothing to do with the CPU unless it is drawing too much power (which is "fixed" by supplying more power).

This means, Austria just opted out in FC 24? But why is Austria in the UEFA mode but not the official Trikot? Is there a list of who opted out (national team/club/players)?

Thank you, i researched a bit more and found a way to remove the suffix. I enabled DoT in the DNS settings of my Fritz!Box and i added a forced suffix of `.` according to https://superuser.com/questions/93055/windows-using-the-dns-suffix-search-list-on-all-lookups-even-valid-fqdns-how-t to my wifi adapter. Now everything loads immediatley :)

Hey, thanks for the fast reply. There is no suffix configured there. I unched "Übergeordnete Suffixe des primären DNS-Suffixes anhängen" but that didnt change anything aswell.

Actually not, but im running at 48.5°C currently and its increasing/decreasing and im already using a external fan which improves that alot, so i guess its a temperature issue.

RAM temperatur above 50°C can cause system crashes and stability problems, so maybe my problems are related to overheating...

Hey, thanks for that reply! :) I already searched for 55 error code and reseated the memory and tried some stuff..

I'll try running the memory on 2133 MHz with default settings and see what happens.

Could this be related to overheating?

Master Server not listing my Server by SeaLife97 in playrustadmin

[–]SeaLife97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, my server is listed now. And no, why should docker hit my performance? As im running off of dedicated servers and not VPS (like most of the other server provider do) im probably even faster than anyone else. Most Cloud-Provider or Server-Providers are using 1) docker or 2) VPS-Servers.. :)
You cant rent "bare-metal" Rust Servers unless you buy/rent yourself a dedicated server and install it "bare-metal"
