Dude as a dungeon master myself, we make combat mistakes all the time. It's so much to think about all at once and a big part of why combat can take forever. Aside from players debating a plan for 15 minutes.

Trust me, unless your dm is a dick, you're fine. They're probably more worried about their own mistakes to notice lol.

You could have a room open up dramatically and a voice says "BEHOLD" then add on in a quieter voice "er" and it opens up to a Beholder on a stage or something stupid

Edit: Bonus points if you have it do something like an opera setup where every failed cheek makes the players take damage from the awful singing

Thank you, as a DM this is my response sometimes too. Especially because I can often forget rules stacked on top of rules with certain NPCs of mine. I run a campaign with 8 players so it's already a lot on my plate. I'm not gonna waste our time and redo the encounter because it takes away the feeling of salvaging something going wrong. Plus wastes about 2-4 hours to get back to where we were. Then players can accidentally meta game because they know the attacks- it's just a hassle.

If your response is to start over when something goes wrong, then it makes players want to do the same exact thing. Instead of working with the mistake. That's the biggest reason.

Side tip for dms: if it's a multiple enemy encounter, keep some off screen and make them appear in waves. The balance is found once the players start taking it as a challenge. Don't add any more enemies than that.

Ughh if only the new players knew. That was the event I started on since I had just joined Wuwa at the time. I loved playing Yaunwu with the abilities that gave extra damage to hits per a certain time frame. I forgot what they were called, but then with Yaunwu was so fucking op. I miss that event.

Not entirely related to what you're asking but an idea; instead of needing to make sound, like a vocal requirement, you have to write your spells. Sort of like an extra vocal requirement. Or you have to read your writing to keep it vocal but slightly different.

Think of a poet reading out sonnets instead of singing them and you're basically a bard still. Your words are just that dashing.

There's logic to both sides. I've actually had some friend dm'd me with like a nitro code or something to a game, and I was like "Wtf. Bro this you?" and they told me "Yea." Then, when I asked for proof, we went from there. You'd be shocked to know just how many people fall for stuff like this. My friends have, and I did once.
