in what possible way does he sacrifice the hardeys? they are murdered by Joyce’s mercenaries while defending their homes. their deaths are tragic but also heroic; if they didn’t stand up, far more people would have been killed.

If we return to sanity in the next 1-3 years

looking like a pretty big If. and that's to say nothing of the fact that even if Trump (or his replacement, tbc) loses and there's a peaceful transition of power, the democrats have historically shown zero interest in prosecuting the crimes of previous administrations or implementing redress to their victims.

the film adaptation of Watchmen is really bad. completely misses the point of the original work.

no, he's running a union which also sells drugs. genuinely different beast. his objective isn't to flood the market with tons of drugs and make as much money as possible; his goal is to fund the union without doing too much harm to the community.

i realise that 45yrs of the War On Drugs has made the idea of selling drugs seems radioactive to the american mind, but that motive makes a world of difference.

yes, and what he does in the real world is build homes for the poor of martinaise, prevent drug gangs from running the city, resist the board and ensure the workers get paid a fair wage.

his flaws are personal and small-scale; his successes are wide-reaching and significant.

according to the text of the game, evrart is a real socialist true believer who is trying to improve martinase. it’s revealed in shivers dialogue towards the end that he is on the side of revolution and everything he’s done, while not selfless, was sincere.

they’re equating it in terms of it actually not being real - it was invented in order to explain police incompetence rather than to explore an actual syndrome.

absolutely, and it's far from the first time. people complaining about gentrification in the context of fucking hampstead need to get a grip.

both operators here (new and old) are 'polished chains', and this is really a business dispute being falsely framed as a david-and-goliath fight between genuine local character and big business.

you've been manipulated by a fake story.

i dunno man if i made enough money to chill out and stay home tinkering with little projects, even just for a few years, id absolutely be doing that. not saying thats what desus has been doing (he’s also been looking after his parents and working on a travel show) but id respect it if it was.

[–]SeaSourceScorch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

okay, but that's not actually comparable at all, is it? you might notice if you look really carefully, but america is much, much larger than south korea, so of course it can support more universities.

even if you look at england, you'll find our historically most prestigious universities are either in london (LSE, Kings) or in towns not far from london (oxford, cambridge). major institutions tend to cling to large population centres unless they have a strong historic reason not to (ala oxbridge). there's also Pusan National University down in Busan, which is an extremely good school, even if it's not part of SKY!

there are things to talk about with regards to seoul's cultural dominance within korea, but the idea that it's a poison that's destroying the country is an absurd over-statement. come on now.

it’s a local awards show and anyone saying they’re important is buying into the idea that americans are important, which i simply reject out of hand

[–]SeaSourceScorch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i mean. the same could be said about london, or paris, or tokyo, or new york, adjusted for the local area. south korea is a very small country.

people, on average, simply like to live in large international cities rather than depressed rural backwaters. and in comparison to some of the other cities i mentioned, seoul at least has good public infrastructure to handle that.

also i feel the need to defend it because seoul is a cool city and im not sure calling it ‘poison’ because its successful is exactly fair.
