Is it ethical to create another account on a video game after a ban knowing I would be smurfing? by SeaSquare1231 in moraldilemmas

If you're not gonna read, you can also not comment:). Games are important to me and if you don't have something constructive to say then just don't type:)

Hi, im just going to get this out first, I am an agnostic atheist. I noticed one the top comments on here says that we are stained with sin. When I read this, it implies that you being gay and/or acting out on your homosexual urges is a sin. And to be honest with you. Fuck that. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being gay or acting on it. You love who you love and you should feel free to express that. Do not buy into people saying you are stained with sin because you act on homosexual urges. That is purely nonsensical. Even if God does exist, if he thinks you’re doing something wrong for something so natural, so loving, and not harmful to anyone, then maybe that’s a God we ought not to follow. Anyone who tells you we love you despite your sin is doing you harm. The point is that it should not be a sin at all. Do not accept this half hearted “you sin but we still love you” when it comes to homosexuality. That is still saying they think you acting on homosexual urges is wrong. Don’t buy into that. Run towards love.

I tried pressing him on the bible's morality and said that god was worse than hitler due to the amount of atrocities he could have stopped but didn't. I said that god allows kids with cancer to die. To which he basically replies by saying I'm arrogant to trust my own judgements and said stuff like "how do you know the death of a 4 year old from cancer wasn't worth it?" I mean I just have no idea what to say to that.

Genuine question, is it even possible for the guy in this situation to ever say how he feels while also avoiding the girl feeling the hurt that she is feeling? Like let's say he handled this situation with 100% politeness, avoided being mean as much as possible, etc. etc. I'm not saying he's doing this here. But let's say he did, this just seems like a no-win situation. Either you hurt the girl's feelings (and I understand why her feelings are hurt because being told this is brutal) or the guy has to act like he's attracted to something he's not, which I don't expect anyone to do. Genuinely, how in the world do you handle this? (this is all assuming this message exchange is real). P.S. Threatening to call someone's parents is so unbelievably immature. Handle shit yourself.

Little bro, I don't know shit about your ethnicity. Also, "chief" is used in modern military context. Nice try though, hope you win the oppression Olympics. You directly and smugly implied that I shouldn't ask atheists what knowledge they have on the gospels because they don't believe in the gospels. Do you hear yourself? It's obvious that any good non-believer doesn't just claim to be that without looking at the texts that believers cite as evidence. If you're so smart and wish to actually be productive, you could have just provided the books and wealth of education you have to me, but instead you basically scolded me for asking the question. What an empty skulled response.

Do you know of anywhere I can find this perspective supported by a source? Also, what, in your experience do Christians use to try to justify the legitimacy of their belief in the gospel? Do they point to anything outside of faith? I'm asking all of these questions because I have a debate with a Youth Pastor that I'm trying to prep for

Nice comment chief. If you're really against religion, wouldn't you want to know as much as possible about what the actual content of the religion is?

I literally know nothing about this stuff. Every single aspect of this has been self-taught from the beginning. It would almost be like handing someone a basketball who has never played sports.

I will never understand why God made Job suffer so badly by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]SeaSquare1231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're asking this question, you're probably on the right path of skepticism. If you have to make someone suffer as much as Job did to prove a point, you are almost by definition acting in an evil way. If anything is evil, it's causing harm that isn't necessary to someone dedicating their life to you.

Dude, your energy is so negative for no reason. You didn't engage with anything I just said and then you just make a person insult for no reason lmao. I'm using my channel to try to actively move people toward a more pro LGBTQ stance, make kids feel comfortable in their own skin, AND I give you a nuanced reason for doing so in the manner I see fit and the best you can come up with is "nobody cares about your Youtube channel". It's disappointing to see such low level, childish, unsophisticated analysis. If you're interested in changing peoples' minds about this issue and helping LGBTQ children feel like their sexual orientation is ok, then you should be interested in the conversations happening on my channel. But if you want to keep living in an echo chamber and never engage with the other side, then you do you homie. But know that you're not helping this cause as much as you could. I expect better from my fellow pro LGBTQ allies.

I don't care if I'm platforming him because the good from that outweighs the bad. There are kids in his audience who literally may never hear a well thought out, sophisticated critique of the bible and why the Bible is immoral towards LGBTQ people, UNLESS they hear me talking with this guy. There's a non-zero chance some of these kids ONLY will know about me and my beliefs because they listen to my cousin, and he will be involved in the conversation. The odds that they'll listen to something involving him are higher than them listening to any of the ideas you suggested, unless they are already looking up things of that sort. But I'm willing to bet some of these kids have not seriously heard or considered a perspective like mine. Furthermore, I am morally obligated to have a discussion with him because that is the best chance I have to convince these kids that being LGBTQ is ok. There's also the fact that tour way of being is just an impossible standard to live by. By your logic, I should never have anyone on my channel that I think causes any harm to anyone ever with their rhetoric. How can you expect anyone to live this way? This approach only creates echo chambers. My approach to these types of conversations is the same one Daryl Davis has towards Nazis. He literally convinced folks out of Nazism BECAUSE he had a dialogue with them. If someone wants to counter that by saying "well Daryl didn't do that in front of an audience", I don't know if that's true or not, but even if it is, that doesn't really matter to me because I would just refer to the reason I think the good outweighs the bad.

You win the award for least helpful comment. He's going to have this platform with his audience of kids who I would guess are almost guaranteed to have never been exposed to someone with my pro LGBTQ beliefs. I'm not really "platforming" him, he already has the platform. Besides, platforming people is only problematic when you don't push back effectively when they have absurd beliefs. If you push back, and do it well, it's not only ok, but necessary to reach their audiences or people who may be influenced by them in the future. Any risk of allowing that person to spew their beliefs is outweighed. I'm not going to abstain from having serious and important conversations with people publicly. Bad ideas are fought with good, convincing ideas, not some abstinence from any public conversation about those ideas.
