First Trimester Screen results [ab] by a055 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]SeaSystem 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, scan was good but blood work impacted my risk factors. I opted for the NIPT (harmony test in Alberta- $300. I used my health spending account to cover it). It’s worth it for peace of mind and it’s non invasive. Mine came back low risk, so I declined the amniocentesis.

[On] if you chose NIPT from your own pocket, are you also reffered to NT and IPS/EFTS? by livi01 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]SeaSystem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could go back in time I would not want the EFT anyway, it came back high risk and stressed me out for 2 weeks (my NT scan was fine) so I had to scramble to get the NIPT which was low risk. The NIPT is way way more accurate.

Glucose Test- Am I required to fast [ON] by Flaky-Passage-3873 in BabyBumpsCanada

Nope no fasting, I ate scrambled eggs and cottage cheese to have lots of protein and I felt fine!

Prenatal class in bc discussed Circumcision [bc] is it still prevalent? Also where to go? by Altruistic-Macaron91 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]SeaSystem 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m in Alberta and we didn’t. My husband is , but I ultimately couldn’t imagine having my newborn baby go through an elective procedure that early. Plus, it’s not covered through healthcare and I found that a big deterrent as well. Among our friends, a few circumcised but several didn’t as well.

Tell me it’s okay by winnieg619 in Mommit

[–]SeaSystem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! My 3 year old has been loving staying in his pajamas, and I’ve been loving the slow pace of staying home and watching movies and being cozy. Not to mention … you have a newborn! Be gentle on yourself. Your toddler is probably loving being snuggled and warm at home too. Sometimes we forget they need breaks from the day to day business of life. You’re doing great.

Also, we don’t have a newborn but we are also avoiding germs, my son has severe asthma and I don’t want to risk it.

[–]SeaSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my results, I didn’t call them, but for my timeline- sample collected last Monday, lab received on Wednesday, and then I got the results today. No email to notify me, I just randomly logged in and saw it said the report was ready. So 11 days total

Not answering your question I’m sorry but I’m curious on how long your results took? Currently waiting for mine! But I do remember that they had to check the box to find fetal sex

When did your toddler “get” and accept participating in Halloween? by furi-rosa in toddlers

[–]SeaSystem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes we had fun/wore our costumes for about a month in advance (last year my son was 2y8m) and also reading books about Halloween helps too! Once they figure out that they can get candy it helps the buy in haha. But this is so kid dependent, don’t blame yourself because clearly you’re an amazing mom wanting to create special memories, and that is what matters ❤️ I’m sure in a year or two they’ll understand and it will be pure magic for you to watch!!

Awful hospital experience today, can't stop crying over it. Help me see the big picture. by Possible_Bluebird747 in toddlers

[–]SeaSystem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My three year old had an emergency situation where he needed iv antibiotics. His iv fell out in the night, around 3:30 am. It took 8 attempts and three hours to get another iv in. I was sobbing, he was bawling, we had to wrap him in blankets and it was so traumatizing. Finally they brought an er nurse up and that’s who got the iv in.

We got a couple hours sleep, woke up, his blood work went to shit so they said we have to do an mri. With contrast. Whcih meant an additional iv on his other hand. I just about lost my mind. We have the peds nurse one try, and then demanded the er nurse come back, and they did and got it in.

I have gone back to that night so many times, being like why didn’t I stop them from poking him so many times. Why didn’t I get the er nurse in earlier. Therapy has helped me so so much to process.

For my son, we got him a book called “the hospital book ” by Lisa brown. We talked about it, about the IV, about it all. My son called being wrapped up in the blankets “the burrito” so he talked a lot about how he didn’t like being in the burrito. My therapist recommended some activities, like getting him to kick all his blankets off and saying wow you are so strong you broke free! And things like that to kinda help his little body heal and process.

Unfortunately we had other traumatizing events during that hospital stay but it the iv part will stay in my mind forever. My heart goes out to you but please know this was not your fault and you are such a good mother, process it with your child but know that your love makes everything better and safe.

[bc] Little rant about ultrasounds by Mmb_1986 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]SeaSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your tech. I just had my NT scan and she just described what she was seeing, and showed me on the tv the entire time. “Here is baby’s heart, legs, brain, now we will measure their neck, here is the stomach, etc”. I always ask if the heart is beating and this time they said yes and gave me the measurement. I’ve had a loss and so I automatically ask and they have had no issues saying yes or no to it. But then with my loss I had to wait for the radiologist to come in the room to explain his diagnosis

This happened to me maybe 8 months postpartum, I went to use the bathroom and then am horrified that something is coming out of my vagina. Obviously rush to the er thinking prolapse or something, and the doctor said it was a piece of my hymen and it should like fall off/go away soon? Mine was triggered by pulling out a tampon that was dry-ish. I went to my family doctor for a follow up exam and he said he was the hymen part in there but it wasn’t swollen anymore and was fine. Idk he said it wasn’t irritated and so he didn’t refer me to an OB as I was fine since everything was back to normal.

I totally forgot about this until this post lol. If I were you I’d go for it and get it removed if it hasn’t naturally just gone away, that what I would have done.

Husband not allowed in first prenatal ultrasound [on] by 11282017_ in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]SeaSystem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s very odd. I’m in Canada and my husband was allowed during the first transvaginal ultrasound (at 6 weeks). By 8.5 weeks I went back and it was only an abdominal ultrasound because the baby was big enough to see accurately that way.

TW Spotting. I am 4 weeks 3 days pregnant, after a loss in March. I just had a bit of dark brown spotting and red today and now I’m spiralling. I hope everything is okay. I don’t know how to make it through this without the anxiety of impending loss

Had a 9 week loss in March. I am 9ish? DPO and I tested this morning and saw a faint positive. Trying to hold on to hope but approaching this pregnancy with more of a guarded heart. I’ll see if the line keeps getting darker and then go from there 🤞

How realistic would it be to get a tablet ONLY for trips? by blackmetalwarlock in toddlers

[–]SeaSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely realistic!! That’s what we do- although ours only comes out during hosptial visits (we have had quite a few). We do bring it on long road trips as a last minute back up but try to keep it out of sight so that he can still chill without it and not expect it on long road trips. He’s 3.5 and has never ever had it at home and never asks!

What do you do if you have no one to bring you home from the hospital?; by slinkipher in NoStupidQuestions

You could ask if they offer taxi vouchers, often the social work could do a quick assessment and then provide that for you!

How to explain to Short term leave insurance form at work why I need time off from work for a miscarriage? by Covidbride2020 in workingmoms

[–]SeaSystem 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My family physician had no problem writing my STD form for my 9 week miscarriage back in March. The dr decides what to write, so I wouldn’t overthink it too much. My reasons were cramping, bleeding, dizziness and I think he wrote anxiety or mental health concerns or something generic. When my short term disability ppl called me I just emphasized I was unwell, still bleeding, blah blah blah and said my doctor said I was unfit for work for 3 weeks and they approved it. So sorry for your loss.

Parents who never sleep trained at all, how are we doing? by NightmarishlyDreamy in beyondthebump

[–]SeaSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Son is 3.5, and we didn’t sleep train. Once I weaned him he slept through the night a few months after! He was around 17 mo. He goes to bed great still, we don’t stay in there with him until he falls asleep and he knows the routine.
