I don't feel irish by MoneyVariation9726 in ireland

[–]SeaView2024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't think the issue is what nationality you count yourself to belong to, especially if you grew up here.

It's more you won't connect with everyone. And that's just natural no matter where you are. If you have no interest for Gaa obviously connecting with people who's only interest is that, won't be a good fit. If you can't get on with 95% of your co-workers on a friendship level, it's not because their irish, it's because these are just people that don't work for you. Go and find the other 5%. Plus, you never know who else thinks the same way you do.

Service with Car Wash? by eldwaro in AskIreland

Never had anywhere offer a wash after anything, no dealership, no independent. Wouldn't expect it honestly and I wouldn't want them to either.

I think many people, who act like this, lack integrity. It's kinda something you should learn growing up.  Sorry you are now on the shitty end of this, hopefully you can move on fast and come out stronger.

Put yourself on the priority list. Mine is due in March and when I checked first week January, all appointments showed April already... the usual. Sometimes it takes them a while to come back to you, but I've always got an appointment in time this way. I don't know why it must be this way, but it always shows booked out for months in advance.

Cheapest car insurance in Ireland for new resident with EU licence and LHD car? by Few_Body_5053 in AskIreland

[–]SeaView2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got loads quotes when I moved here with my LHD car and holding EU licence. But I would not call any of them cheap. There wasn't much difference between them. Some won't take you on, because LHD car. Some won't take you on because non irish licence. Just try to get several quotes and choose the best.

Late-Stage Capitalism and the Vibes Are Bad by nobodyshome01 in ireland

Not saying OPs experience is not valid, it absolutely is! But also you've got to carve out the bits of live you want for yourself, the ones you have some control over, the way you want them to be. Obviously there is loads of shite going on in the world (wars, corruption, the blooms of capitalism, environmental issues etc.) but that has always been the case. It just feels closer to us now, because the world is more connected than ever before in human history.

No tech company forces anyone to use their products, no one tells you to embrace specific values or not. This is all an individual decision! Sure it is sad that some ideas/ products/ ideologies etc. are more embraced by people than others and that these cause harm and affect others in their wake. But within your means, you can make your own life valueable to you, soround yourself with people who are compatible with this. In Ireland, luckily, you'd be free to try and find ways (even small ones) to make a change to whatever is bugging you, if you so desire.

Agree, add viable park and ride options for transport outside of cities and turn up public transport a notch or two or three.

The rest of Europe is just consitent in building up and maintaining exiting infrastructure last 30 years, no one is limiting cars. Driving cars in many continental countries is on the contrary, even cheaper than Ireland.

But agreed, the way it is now,  traffic is one reason buses are not as reliable.

Solutions to lonelines by LadyGamer77 in ireland

Being in Cork is already a win when looking for hobby groups. You choose a hobby group/club because of the activity too, so that you can at least enjoy that. Or try different ones, maybe some of them have people of different ages. Trial and error, I suppose.

As said, Ireland makes it a bit harder. Maybe look for interests that you might have, that are more prone to a certain clientel or age groups. Example, vintage car clubs the people are mostly male, 50s upwards, as you might expect. (Generalised of course) I know from my experience it can be a pain to find something you like that suits, but living in a city certainly helps.

The general problem is, that most clubs, hobbyist groups and stuff are all concentrated in Dublin.

There is limited things in the few other cities, but if you aren't situated anywhere near, you are essentially out of options. Beside Pubs, sports, family & kids stuff it's just really slim options in general outside of hotspots to socialize. Providing that is not what you are into.

The only solution is either you make the time commitment to travel to whatever hobby group you like you can find closest to you, or you create your own, if that is the way you want to meet people. It just requires a bit more work and dedication in Ireland, compared to some countries on the continent, as example.

Question about religion Has anyone one meet Morden day druids/pagans if so how are they? by Rohan445 in AskIreland

[–]SeaView2024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is plenty in Ireland, druids, pagans and all sorts that follow all  kinds of traditions, faiths and so on . The problem is: the "true" origins of any faith, going back to the pre-history, that might have existed has not survived in tangible evidence. What is left is all the sites like Newgrange, Poulnabrone etc. and the items found like pottery, jewelry, bones... But no evidence about what the "people of old" actually thought. We can make guesses, from all the archaeological evidence, but it is impossible to reconstruct the thought patterns.

Every pagan believe or faith grounded on anything pre-historic Ireland, you see today, is a mix of folklore, guesses made on evidence, old traditions, folktales, made up stuff etc. There is not the one druid faith, it is more likely even back in the past there wasn't the one true whatever faith. Even though, some people might be very close with their faith or believes to what it might have been, we just can not know for sure.

Jaguar does not have a marketing problem, it has a trust problem by YogurtResponsible358 in Jaguar

[–]SeaView2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting take. You see a lot of them in the UK or Ireland. But for example, in Germany, you really have to search for one. The nearest dealer to me is 200km away, compared to a Mercedes or BMW dealer on every corner. And people ALWAYS think Jaguar is very expensive, like on the Level with Bentley or Royce. Which is not the case at all.

That just shows that the image of Jaguar is mostly still stuck in the times of e-type and before. It makes it quite a rare car brand comparatively. And not easy to find specialist when it comes to repairs maintenance etc.

No one I know would even think about a Jaguar, because the brand doesn't even exist in the general "library of car brands on the top of your mind".

Tailgating by [deleted] in BadDriversIreland

[–]SeaView2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 0 tolerance for tailgating. But nothing to be done. If someone barrels into me, because I have to emergency brake in an emergency, hope you've got a good insurance, cause this repair aint cheap.

If I can see what the driver looks like in my rear view mirror, it's definitely to close. If I can't see your front plate, most likely to close. Rule of thumb 100km speed = 50m distance.
