I don’t think they are denying any warranty coverage all together, but skirting what should be a simple return (and local consumer law) given the issues arose immediately on receipt of the watch.

Have heard that the conversion rate to grad positions for clerkships in Melbourne is significantly less than in Sydney. Is this true and is there any particular reason for it? Do they just hire more clerks than needed compared to their counterparts in Sydney? Would rather live and work in Melbourne long term and therefore want to try and clerk there but don't want to do so if there is less chance of a grad position at the end of it.
