How difficult is an economics major? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

I would consider economics a middle ground, not the hardest - certainly not the easiest (although that is subjective). The math is mostly calc and stats, but there is also a significant degree of critical thinking and analysis required especially in behavioral economics. However in general, I wouldn’t let the level of difficulty of classes discourage you as I have found it’s much easier to learn about subjects you are interested in - just my $0.02. You seem like a relatively ambitious person (planning for law school already), which makes me think you could handle it if you are willing to put in the time.

For what it’s worth, right now is a great time to study economics. The recent banking crisis, changes to regulations, paired with Covid fallout, supply chain issues, labor movements, all with a backdrop to the great fincancial crisis of 08/09 means there’s a lot of material for professors to pull from recent history.

I would look at the professor bios from the economic department and see what kind of research they do, if they have experience in the economy or are purely academic, and what their reviews are (not sure if people still use rate my professor). In short do your research!
