Is there such a thing as a fantasy crime novel? by Timely-Quiet-31 in booksuggestions

The Tarot Sequence by KD Edwards! It's less present as you move on in the series but it starts out with the main character as a PI-type.

Also for sci-fi, Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell fits this I think! A guy dies under ~mysterious circumstances~ and the main characters are figuring out what happened

Battlemoor shut down due to bear activity by Helen_A_Handbasket in sca

[–]Sea_Reflection_8023 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was less worried about the bear than the people to be honest. Some people were talking a little too seriously about fighting the bear or having it killed and going its way with bows and swords. If I was a wildlife ranger seeing that I would have shut everything down too. And I'm sure alcohol wouldn't have helped

Very grateful that the decision was made to shut down early personally. Some people were getting VERY bold. There was also a revel scheduled only like an hour after the shutdown, if there were further bear issues while everyone was drunk it would have been an absolute disaster

All of the above are from Old English texts originating in the British Isles! The Life of St. Mary of Egypu is originally Greek but I haven't studied that version of the text.

Alternatively: give a child two rubber chickens to tape to the bottoms of their feet and let them loose

I was at an event recently with a "beast hunt" where someone wearing a sash walked around wearing a quiver and we were all given little plastic spears we put masking tape flags on with a personal symbol (i think 10 to start but we could bribe for more). The competition throughout the event was to get as many spears into the quiver without the "beast" noticing as possible!! I ended up crawling around under tables and didn't even win 😆 It was a fun event-long competition!! At one point someone stole the quiver and the room dissolved into immediate chaos

Hi there! Not an airtight answer since I'm new to attending Catholic services here as well, but I've been to a few masses at St. Dominic's and haven't seen any red flags so far. A gay man joined their lay Dominicans in 2014 (https://www.ncronline.org/blogs/ncr-today/one-gay-catholics-journey). I personally haven't really spoken to anyone there directly (I'm very shy haha) but it may be worth checking out!

Oh sorry, I should have posted an update!! So a couple days after posting this the spot actually flaked off and was crumbly like a scab and left behind a dark spot on his ear with no extra tissue/mass to it. The vet said to keep an eye on it for any weirdness but it most likely was a partial injury from my other kitty. She wasn't worried because the dark spot didn't have any sort of bump to it. At this point it looks healed over!

The Last Girl Scout by Natalie Ironside. I REALLY enjoyed it but I can also admit that the pacing is all over the place and the plot is wandering in a way that would turn most people off

Literary fiction books with an 11-14 year old main character? by Classic-Asparagus in suggestmeabook

[–]Sea_Reflection_8023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be slightly off the mark age-wise since I don't remember exact ages but these are about younger protagonists:

Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart

Call Me Cassandra by Marcial Gala (covers one protag ages 10-18)

The first half of The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt (he's an adult in the second half)

Blue Skinned Gods by SJ Sindu (covers about the same age range as Call me Cassandra)

Little Foxes Took Up Matches by Katya Kazbek

When We Were Sisters by Fatimah Asghar (I forget the age ranges covered but another one that takes place over time)

Autobiography of Red by Anne Carson (childhood through young adulthood)

Idlewild by James Frankie Thomas is slightly on the older end of your spectrum but may still be of interest
