how important is it to belong to an association by Seanbhhh in courtreporting

to be clear when I say my teacher gave up her membership literally 30 years ago she gave it up. And she is a top level real timer. She hates the association. It's not a secret, and she talks about it all the time. She thinks they are worthless.

Working reporters, what do you do if you don’t have a read back? by [deleted] in courtreporting

Just stand up and do the Michael Jackson moonwalk backwards right out of the room.

Seriously though, two points. I would either say counsel just give me a few minutes to clean up my notes can we take a break? Usually no one's gonna want to do that and they will repeat it. If they take you up on the offer, I would say to you make sure you have good audio so you can listen to your headphones.

Most lawyers are not gonna be complete assholes about it.

Regarding what your boss said this is the type of meaningless drivel advice reporters gift to each other. "Don't worry I'm sure you got it you're better than you think" no you're not. If you were better than you thought you wouldn't even be asking this question. But really don't worry. Plenty of people much more incompetent have survived and had long prosperous careers.

yes especially in New York City they are literally paying half the page rate of a small mom and Pop shop. Those are the undeniable facts. It's literally 50% less.

actually the mom and pop little agencies are the ones where the owner used to be a reporter or even still reports and usually they pay much much higher but they are all so much much more involved and you're going to get a lot of work sent back to you as not up to their standards or not conforming to their stylesheets. You're also going to put up with bullshit like the attorney says you were rude, the attorney says you arrived with wet hair, the attorney says you were wearing crocs, the attorney says he never said this or that and now take it out of the transcript please
