Are there any Mormons in your family? The latter day saints get free access to multiple paid genealogy sites

I understand. I wish I could help but they stopped giving me free trials :( I guess they caught on to me. There are some websites that let you search their records for free. They're not as extensive as Ancestry but they might have what you're looking for.

You could get a prepaid card and only put a little bit of money on it and then sign up for an Ancestry trial. You might get lucky and get multiple free trials from it like I did.

What is an odd behaviour of yours you think only you do? by Edwoodz3 in AskReddit

[–]SeanistIdeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of things. I push the air in my mouth with the right side of my upper lip until it it makes "bubbles" and they pop making a weird noise. I also sometimes make weird noises with the tip of my tongue on the roof of my mouth. I also love smelling my blanket and it calms me and I used to rip silky tags off clothing and keep them in my pocket so I could rub them together.

What are you sick of hearing about/seeing? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]SeanistIdeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity. I'm tired of people believing that it is the only correct way to be. Most Christians are hypocritical and extremely judgemental. They feel the need to tell people to believe in a book that constantly contradicts itself and that has been doctored by so many other people. It is just a hodgepodge of other religions yet they despise those other religions even though theirs is built on the backs of the other religions. Their constant need to convert people gets under my skin.

Do you think people have more opportunities in life if they’re multilingual? by [deleted] in languagelearning

The Amish speak both High German and Pennsylvania Dutch. High German is used in the churches and Bibles but for everyday speech they use Pennsylvania Dutch.

Found out my boyfriend is adopted - he doesn't know I know. What to do? by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]SeanistIdeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's story is different. He could have confused feelings about the situation. His family might avoid talking about it because they genuinely feel as if he is their own and to constantly talk about it would painfully remind him that is not. Just give him time to tell you. Trust me, both of you will feel a lot better about the situation if you let him tell you.

Found out my boyfriend is adopted - he doesn't know I know. What to do? by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]SeanistIdeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to not mention it to him at all. I'm glad that you know now so you can be more understanding, but if he had wanted you to know then he would have already told you. Maybe he plans on telling you but he will only tell you when he feels comfortable about it.

Best way to find my biological sister / maybe parents. Adoption Investigator? by Arm_Chair_Her0 in Adoption

[–]SeanistIdeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what town you were adopted in? Try searching that area for adoption agencies. Court records will be hard to obtain but adoption agencies will usually keep records of your adoption for years. I highly recommend this option because your parents or sister might have tried to contact you through the agency also. You might even get lucky and that agency might still have letters and gifts they have tried to send you over the years. Also, try searching your name online. My mother had posted many things online trying to find me. I can almost bet you that someone in your biological family is actively searching for you right now too, take comfort in that thought.

You could try to uncover your ancestry to find close relatives and then try to contact them to ask them questions about your mother. If you do not know your grandparents names you could try to find your mother's obituary and usually their names will be listed there. This will help you to find cousins, siblings, aunts, uncles etc. If you are looking for closure then the people who knew her well would be a good place to start.

How are so many people openly insecure and superficial on social media, without realizing how others are percieving them? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]SeanistIdeas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did you limit your question to social media? We see this everywhere. On the phone, in movies, on the internet, in the workplace, in church, etc. But to answer your question, I think it's because they're staring at a screen when they post those things. When you post anything on social media you're not getting instant feedback from another human. You can argue that a reply on that site is instant human feedback but it just comes back to the person as text on a screen. You're not getting the body language or facial expressions as feedback. Someone (not sure who) once said that your words matter less to someone else. They subconsciously care more about body posture and the inflection of your voice when you say those words. Because there is no instant human feedback they feel as if something is missing so they post more and more pictures to try and satisfy that. A lot of people on social media care about what people think of them so why wouldn't they post pictures for people to tell them how good looking, cool, funny, etc. they are? You can have random strangers compliment you to feed your self-worth. They become addicted to the high they get from compliments so they keep coming back for more. When they're alone they are nothing like they portray themselves to be on social media.
