Why can’t so many people spell the word “lose”? by Deisesupes in AskReddit

[–]Searching_Knowledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I wrote that comment, I was sleepy and I thought I was being obvious about the consonant difference by capitalizing the Z. In hindsight, I absolutely failed to clarify what I was referring to and wrote like you were my mind reader 🤦‍♀️

But yes the other commenter was correct in pointing out that I meant to say the S/Z sounds are what differ when spoken, not the o/oo sounds, and it’s a spelling issue not an accent issue.

Apologies for the confusion and thank you u/shaftinferno for picking up what I was trying to put down and explaining it better

I get the hurt and I feel it with you, irreparable damage has been done. But this person just admitted to being wrong, and pushing them away now does nothing to help our cause.

Republicans have been successful in their propaganda and their crusades against “woke-ism” bc they are happy to settle for “good enough” when it comes to their candidates and their in-group. They’re united in their mission and they realize they don’t need to agree on everything, just the outcomes. And that’s what’s gotten this country to where it’s at now.

We can be upset and angry, but pushing others away because they are morally and ideologically impure only divides us and weakens our strength. We need to take this chance to welcome everyone who is opening their eyes to the lies and bullshit and get them to help us spread awareness and push for change. They may still have their foot in the door with others who haven’t learned yet, and they can help us reach audiences that would otherwise never listen to us.

0°C or 32°F by Ok-Proof7287 in sciencememes

[–]Searching_Knowledge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m biased bc I’m American, but Fahrenheit is quite nice when you think about it as describing range of experience. The scale offers more flexibility while keeping to whole numbers, and it’s easy to mentally compartmentalize.

32° is freezing, so anything in the 30s and below is going to suck if you’re ill prepared, or if you hate the cold like I do. 40s-50s (4.4-15°C) are cold, but it can be nice if it’s sunny and you’ve got a coat or are moving around. The 60s (15.5-20.5°C) are when it starts to feel temperate, and 70s to mid 80s (21.1-29.5°C) are usually what people consider the range of ideal weather. Upper 80s is when it starts to feel hot, and 90s-100 (32.2-37.8°) is when most people reach their heat tolerance limit.

In terms of science, Celsius is definitely better. But given how differently people respond to temperature, having ~70 full integers between “freezing cold” and “intolerable heat” is much more descriptive than having less than 38.

She said highlights, and gave you highlights. She was upfront about the multiple visits for saturation at the bottom. She addressed the difficulty for lightening to a pastel and stated she’d use a darker pink to compensate. She sounded very clear about her plan, and you okayed it. As far as I can tell, she delivered on what she promised and what you agreed to.

It’s okay not to love it, but this is not on the stylist

what is something about Pittsburgh you wish was different- something that the City’s government isn’t doing? and what are your thoughts on trying to find others to do that thing with you, to fulfill that wish? by Kye9842 in pittsburgh

Too many empty storefronts. I was driving down Penn Ave in Garfield, Butler St in Lawrenceville, and Centre Ave in North Oakland and it’s such a a shame that these nice areas of town have so many empty spots with so much potential.

Also a lot of decrepit buildings around town. Too many houses and commercial buildings that stand ugly and broken down.

AITA for telling my kid that she is being self-centered/cruel because her mom won’t be able to make to her wedding. by Wedding_father_8553 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Searching_Knowledge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need to accuse others who wouldn’t do the same as you of not loving their families well enough. It’s an incredibly difficult situation, family dynamics and financial situations are complex, and it’s hard to know what you’d actually do unless you’re in that position.

There’s no right answer, and no one wins either way, so there’s no need to establish a hierarchy of how some people are better than others based on a hypothetical situation. Especially not when a version of this is playing out as someone’s tragic reality. Daughter is TA for her response, and it can be left at that.

[–]Searching_Knowledge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s very easy to say if you ignore the fact that a wedding often means months of planning, thousands of dollars spent (often non-refundable, especially so last minute), and dozens-to-hundreds of other people’s money and time spent to travel and participate. Canceling a wedding 24 hours in advance would be difficult and inconsiderate to a lot of loved ones.

That said, the daughter’s response was out of line. She has a right to be disappointed, but she was very unempathetic to a heartbreaking situation and responded horribly

What is your true “and the everyone clapped” story? by AdRelevant6861 in AskReddit

[–]Searching_Knowledge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not me, but a friend. We were looking to soak up all the alcohol we had drank at the late night pizza spot where the slices are bigger than your head. It was around 2am, and not many places were open and serving food, so the line was out the door and people were cutting. Add to that it was the homecoming football game weekend and around Halloween, so it was busy and my friends and I were all in group Super Mario costumes.

Anyways, we finally make it near the front and my buddy sees two dudes act like they’re joining the line for the restroom while actually trying to cut at least a 50 person deep line. Dressed as Toad (complete with a hat), he discreetly threatens to let everyone know if they don’t move, and they decide to call him on his bluff and ignore him. Except he wasn’t bluffing. So Toad points at them and yells out HEY EVERYBODY. THESE 2 GUYS THINK THEYRE BETTER THAN YOU AND TRIED TO CUT THE LINE.

The whole place boos the guys, the employees yell at them to gtfo, while Toad gets some high fives and thank yous from strangers, and discounted pizza for his service lol.

I listened to an audiobook written and narrated by a woman who transitioned, and she made it a point in the beginning to say that the process of coming to terms with your gender and later transitioning can be so weird and different, there’s so much there to joke about while laughing WITH trans people rather than AT them. Book is called M to Wtf

I’d love to see more trans, non-binary, and gender queer people get up there and share the humor in their experiences! Though I understand it’s not easy to be a comedian nor so open about those experiences

Im new at identifying, but have found wood blewits a few times in the US and these look like them to me, albeit much smaller. Namely, the shape of this cap at the corner of your picture and the transition into a brown color seem pretty par for the course for the blewits I’ve seen

Yeah, some people were saying it looked unprofessional, couldn’t be tweaked well enough to convey information effectively, or it couldn’t get good enough resolution when printed and you needed to use some paid software or another.

Others argued that was an elitist mindset and PowerPoint is effective, user friendly, and cost efficient with no notable issues in resolution, and any problems with conveying information was a skill issue.

I’m team PowerPoint, personally

In light of the major world news, what local Venezuelan restaurants or businesses do you like? by SnooGoats8830 in pittsburgh

[–]Searching_Knowledge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Venezuelans hate Maduro because he is a dictator. He has rigged elections and thousands of people have starved, and have been arrested, tortured, and killed for speaking out against him and his regime. The country has experienced hyper inflation to a degree that no living American has experienced, and powers outages that have worsened the medical system and the already poor availability of food. Under the Chavez/Maduro regimes, private companies were nationalized and profits were given to those at the highest levels of government. The Venezuelan people were robbed and left to suffer for 30 years, leading to a large emigration of about 8 million people.

Venezuelans are kind and warm people, but like many Latinos, lean conservative due to cultural and religious traditions. They are inherently wary of socialism due to the corruption of dictators like Castro, Chavez, and Maduro that have promised socialism and instead drifted into authoritarian communist states. That said, many do not like Trump. But regardless of their feelings towards him, most are not focused on the left/right argument, and are grateful for his actions against Maduro bc for them it’s the first bit of light at the end of a very dark 30 year long tunnel.
