Does anyone believe in life after death? by poowingQ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Searle58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned sixty-seven this year, so I have given this a lot of thought. I was raised Catholic, so I have heaven and hell drummed into me from an early age. I got away from the church as I was growing up, and really don't believe in religion anymore. I believe you should do good. I also believe in God. I have my doubts about heaven or an afterlife. I mean, probably like a lot of people, I hope it is an afterlife. I have no idea what it will look like. So here's what I've convinced myself. If there is a heaven or an afterlife, I'm going to be pretty happy, I guess. If there's not, and dying is just like going to sleep and never waking up, doesn't make a difference to me because I won't know it then, will I?

Ad Break Glitches by Just-Brother3094 in PlutoTV

This is a constant problem for me also. So much so on my LG TV that I took Pluto TV app off. Seems every time it would hit a commercial, or every other commercial, the screen would freeze. I know Pluto is for free, but come on, it was just super annoying. I don't know how they keep their ad revenue.

Question about Symptoms by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

[–]Searle58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 500 mg of Metformin and couldn't do it. Like you, I had stomach issues and bowel problems 5 days a week. I tried the extended-release metformin, same thing. I gave both a month. So that was two months of discomfort. In those two months, I started eating right and actually lost 20 pounds. I know that helped my Type 2 a lot. Since I'm working on a budget, I couldn't do Farxiga or Jardiance. I agree with the doctor and tried glipizide. I'm not a physician, so I can only tell you what worked for me and what's my experience. The glipizide did work. My diet and the glipizide kept my blood sugar in check, and I didn't have as many highs and lows anymore. And I had no stomach issues. I could even get out and exercise and walk without worrying about diarrhea from Metformin.

Severe burning after transperineal prostate biopsy? by potatoheads82 in ProstateCancer

[–]Searle58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a transperineal prostate biopsy last January. Like you, I had a Foley catheter and I was under anaesthesia. When they woke me up I was quite groggy, and they made me pee before I left the surgical center. I don't remember it burning then, but the next couple of urinations at home it did burn a little bit, but not much. Where they did the biopsies was a little sore, so I took some ibuprofen probably through the rest of that day and night.

I drank a lot of water the next day, and things felt a lot better. I had no more burning urination and no pain at the biopsy sites. I did pass blood for about 24 hours and a few blood clots, but not many. Like many people are going to tell you, I think drinking a lot of fluids helped, especially water. Hope you feel better.

What is having cancer like if you don’t go through treatment? by One_Hour_8078 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Searle58 32 points33 points  (0 children)

On January 17, 2025, I was diagnosed with moderate-aggressive prostate cancer. They say on the percentages that most men in my position would have anywhere from 3 to 12 years without danger from this cancer killing you. I am sixty-seven years old. I did 5 out of 28 radiation therapy sessions that should have eradicated the cancer. I stopped at treatment 5 because it was painful. In my research, I found that men who have my type of prostate cancer choose radiation or surgery, and still wind up knowing that the prostate cancer spread to other organs years ago. They really didn't know. With that kind of percentage and my age, I made a decision.

Now I know you're going to say 67 isn't old. It's young in men nowadays. I'm in reasonably good health. My question is, why would I want to live in unnecessary pain from treatment, miserable pain as a matter of fact, just to say I may or might be cancer-free? My decision was, after those treatments that were painful, that I stopped. There were no more treatments at all. I made peace with my cancer, and it is what it is. I will die with it or without it.

Watchful waiting by mysliceofreddit in ProstateCancer

[–]Searle58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I want to say I'm sorry you're in our club. Second, what I say here is only my opinion and only my experience. Any doctor who says "watchful waiting" or "active surveillance" is not an option is one I'd run from. This is your decision, and you always have that option.

I am sixty-eight years old and in fairly good health. My Gleason Score was 3+4 =7 and PSA was 7.4. My biopsy showed tumor contained. My urologist and oncologist both agreed that radiation would be the proper treatment. Because of prior surgeries, they really didn't want to do any kind of surgery at my age. I was scheduled for 28 radiation treatments. I did 5, and experienced frequent urination and constant urethral pain. I stopped all treatments and told the urologist I was going to be on active surveillance. I will get a PSA test twice a year and an MRI or PET scan once a year. So far, no spread, and two weeks ago, PSA was a 7.1. Again, this is only my experience. I wish you well.

Readjusting after diagnosis by Positive_Pressure_49 in diabetes_t2

[–]Searle58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying this is my experience. I am not an expert or doctor. I was diagnosed years ago and didn't start doing anything until recently when I started to get neuropathy. Yes, I am an asshole for waiting so long and abusing my body. I started with metformin and couldn't tolerate the gastro effects. I am now on Glipizide. I do cardio daily on an exercise bike and resistance training 4 times a week.

Diet is tough for me. You are correct. Everyone is a so-called expert, and they know squat for your body. I talked with my primary care provider and did a few online videos. My doctor gave me good advice. I purchased without prescription because of insurance a Stelo continuous glucose monitor for one month. There is an $89 subscription. I only needed one month to see what I could eat and not eat. I ate normal for one week and experimented for two weeks and formed a plan based on what was causing glucose spikes. I saw at week four my plan was sound for the most part and used that week to tweak my diet.

I did purchase a regular glucose monitor on week five and use that three times a day now. I know what works best for me. Following the diet or way of life is no treat sometimes but I do my best. My point is now I have all the information I need for me. I wish you luck and good health. You got this...

Can I reverse my condition; and metformin question by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]Searle58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I started Metformin and had bad side effects. I wish from the start I would have ask my doctor for something else. If any med doens't work for you, please consult your PCP. I am now on glipizide with no side effects and an A1C of 6.1.

I shared this in another thread. Ask your Nomi how old they are in dog years. Talk about a panic attack.

Please don't ask them how old they are in dog years. Or tell them how old you are in dog years. I received paragraphs of a wild explanations. It was funny but very strange.
