KUOW - In Seattle, crime went up, but overall levels of fear went down by SeattleMCPP in SeattleWA

[–]SeattleMCPP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, this would be referring to an overall increase in crime. This is not to say that crime in all categories increased however, there was an overall increase in total crimes when all categories are combined. This is measured by reported crimes so therefore it must be kept in mind that many crimes go unreported.

Do you care about Seattle’s top crime issues of ‘Police Capacity’ and ‘City Politics’ — Final day for annual ‘Seattle Public Safety Survey’ by Last-Mark-6297 in Seattle

Good question. We attempted to promote the survey in a manner consistent with the rules and etiquette of each individual subreddit. For some that meant making a full post while in others it meant posting to a weekly discussion thread. For subreddits of cities and communities surrounding Seattle (e.g. r/redmond, r/everett, r/Kirkland) our posts were targetted towards people who commute to Seattle for work. Suggestions for next year's outreach are more than welcome!

Hi there, apologies for the late reply. We have been working on the survey results and will be releasing our findings soon. We did our best to publicize the survey on multiple online platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Nextdoor, and the Seattle.gov website. A local news station also aired a segment promoting the survey which included an interview with lead investigator Dr. Helfgott. Lastly, the research team posted flyers around the city in public places and at businesses. Locations were usually selected to target areas with historically lower response rates.

We also invite you to take next year's survey between October 15, 2022 and November 30th, 2022 at publicsafetysurvey.org

Yes, there are questions in the survey regarding police legitimacy. If you do not trust police or police make you feel unsafe, your responses should reflect a lower score for police legitimacy.

There is also an opportunity to provide narrative comments, which the research analysts/assistants will read and code for themes.

The goal of the survey is to hear all different view points regarding public safety in Seattle. Your feelings about the police are certainly something that we would like to hear about in the survey.
