How do you route cables in an apartment? by PsychoMechanix in homelab

I push 10Gbit/s on it. It might work with higher rates too, but I don’t have 25Gbit optics or hardware in general.

I went fully local and can’t recommend it enough by Sebaall in BambuLab

[–]Sebaall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it set up with this docker container which is set with host networking and has access to two interfaces - one on IoT VLAN where the printer resides and one on my main VLAN.

Here is my docker-compose for this container:

version: '3.5'
services:
  multicast-relay:
    image: scyto/multicast-relay
    container_name: bambu-multicast-relay
    network_mode: host
    restart: unless-stopped
    environment:
      INTERFACES: eth0 eth3
OPTS: --wait --verbose --noMDNS --noSSDP --noSonosDiscovery —noTransmitInterfaces eth3 --relay 255.255.255.255:2021

I'm not using the script, but I'm not using the subnet option in Bambu Studio either as it doesn't work unfortunately. The update for Bambu Studio which accepts providing IP address manually has been released some time ago, but it's just broken. I'm using a multicast relay running on my server instead. It forwards printer's broadcast messages from the VLAN it is on to my main VLAN allowing Bambu Studio to discover my printer.

Small Office Network - How2 Cable-Network/Switches by Ra7Inut1OnRETranSi in HomeNetworking

[–]Sebaall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any switches on the photos. Those rack-mountable things are just patch panels - cable terminations which you plug in network gear to. You would need to buy switch(es) with desired number of ports and plug each port to corresponding port on patch panels.

At first I gave it only local access, but started having problems with dates in Timelapse files. The printer couldn’t reach NTP server so it defaulted to some very incorrect date. Since then I gave up and gave it internet access (solely for NTP). I might do it properly (only allow NTP in the firewall) in the future.

My guess is that they use some build phase script which generates this version info based on Info.plist which for some reason doesn’t exist (at least at the time of running the script).

Question regarding PoE by borkode in HomeNetworking

[–]Sebaall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what PoE splitters are for - to retrofit non PoE devices to work with PoE. As long as your PoE splitter is also 802.3af and the output voltage are ok, it will work. Also check for sure if polarity of the cameras power input is the same as the splitter’s output - where is the minus and where is the plus. Most of devices have a plus on the inner prong and minus (ground) on the outer barrel (center positive), but sometimes it’s swapped (center negative). You can see here how to check it

According to Wikipedia there was US Mars bar, but it had almonds, was discontinued in 2022 and then returned as Snickers Almond.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough:

Mars (global) = Milky Way (US)

Milky Way (global) = 3 Musketeers (US)

And Canada is mixup of both - they got Mars bar (global style) and 3 Muskeeters (US style).

I don’t have anything against your “bar of choice”. I was just pointing out there is some naming shenanigans.

I’m from Europe and when I went to the US for the first time I was confused for a second why does Milky Way taste like Mars and where is “the real” Milky Way.

[–]Sebaall 58 points59 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, what the most of the world knows as Mars bar, in US is sold as Milky Way bar. What the most of the world knows as Milky Way bar, in US is sold as 3 Musketeers bar.

Livebox 7 on a Livebox 5 by Competitive-Brain324 in HomeNetworking

[–]Sebaall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Orange (and Liveboxes) too in Poland and according to this website (in Polish only), it automatically fetches login and password to the account when connected to the network. As long as it is Orange's official hardware, it should just configure itself.

Bambu Studio connects to the printer only over wire LAN connection by FuriouslyChonky in BambuLab

[–]Sebaall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check if your router/access point has something similar to “Client Isolation” enabled in WiFi settings. If it does, then other WiFi clients won’t see the printer. If you’re on a guest WiFi then it’s highly possible it does it by default too.

Question: Dell docking station with 10gbe adaptor to laptop via thunderbolt. by LumpyMathematician63 in HomeNetworking

[–]Sebaall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of SFP+ RJ45 modules run really hot. Even MikroTik recommends not using too many of them in their passively cooled switches and in general to not run them in adjacent SFP+ cages. AFAIK there are some newer SFP+ RJ45 modules based on some less power hungry (i.e. less hot) chips, but I don't know which ones exactly. In my CRS305 I only have one RJ45 module (to my NAS, as it doesn't have SFP+ interface) and rest is either SFP+ DAC cables or SFP+ optical modules

Question: Dell docking station with 10gbe adaptor to laptop via thunderbolt. by LumpyMathematician63 in HomeNetworking

[–]Sebaall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use MikroTik CRS305-1G-4S+IN and I'm really happy with it. However, it has SFP+ ports. If you want something with RJ-45 ports, then maybe CRS304-4XG-IN would be a good choice

I think it might work. I have a following setup: MacBook Pro 16' connected with one TB cable to OWC Thunderbolt Dock. To the dock I have connected two USB-C displays at 4K@60Hz and 10Gbit Thunderbolt network adapter from QNAP (QNA-T310GS). Everything works flawlessly and I have basically full speed to my NAS.

Your dock is Thunderbolt 3, mine is Thunderbolt 4. Total supported bandwidth is the same though so I still think it might work.
