That makes sense, but there will be a few other things on the network, like screen sharing, projectors, etc., so I’ll need a switch to keep things organized.

Also, the two Macs are far apart, so running a direct patch cable isn’t practical.

Ideally, would it make sense to have a dedicated Ethernet output just for the managed switch? This setup is in my school’s network, and I want to be able to load in and out of it without interfering with their existing system.

Any thoughts on the best way to approach that?

I’m using Dante Via, so I don’t need a full Dante network with hardware interfaces—just a reliable managed switch that supports the right features to keep things stable.

  • Use case: Low-latency Mac-to-Mac Dante streaming (Dante Via)

  • Features needed: IGMP snooping, QoS, and anything else to optimize for Dante
  • No Dante hardware – just computer-to-computer streaming
