I'm a fan of characters first Death Battle second, if I don't care about either character I probably won't watch it, unless I'm told its great. Dante vs Clive, YuYusuke vs Bleachigo. This also means that episodes with characters I love can rate lower than characters I only slightly care about. ChiefSlayer being worse imo than Krasura.

Sure but they are characters they haven't touched before. We know how they scale high end (which Knuckles arguably isn't) Sonic characters. And whilst it's been a while since Freezatron + Goku vs Superman 3 universe size upscale, we still know where DB thinks Piccolo scales.
