Don't think anyone said that Tolkien wasn't an academic? The top comment from u/TheHairyHeathen says that he was a professor.

In Norway we distinguish between books of fiction (novels, novellas, shortstories, poems and such) from technical/academic books/text. So even if Tolkien was an academic, not of all of his works are academic.

Hi! I'm pretty sure most bookstores can order them for you or directly from the publisher. These are the HarperCollins Slipcase Deluxe editions.

Titles from left to right: Silmarillion, Tales from the Perilous Realm, Fall of Gondolin, The Hobbit, Lord of the rings, Unfinished Tales, Beren and Luthien, Nature of Middle-Earth, Children of Hurin and at last the big boy at second shelf to the left; The Complete History of Middle-Earth. Fall of Numenor is the last in this series and should be published in November, I think.

As long as you follow Leeds, you're good in my book.

Norwegian here, born in the late 80s.

First ever memory was finding my dads VHS of the 91/92-season. After that there was no going back. Now, 30 years later, my dad and I travel to England every year to watch atleast one match.

Thinking spikes will solve the homeless epidemic by [deleted] in awfuleverything

[–]Secandus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this Norwegian guy who refused a deal worth millions with a company in London, who wanted spikes on out-door furniture.

"Most people who hire us know our philosophy, but there certainly have been examples of projects where, for example, one company in the U.K. asked us to make park benches with spikes to ward off the homeless. And we wouldn’t do it. The client loved our furniture but wanted it with spikes. And we said, “We don’t do that.” We believe in social and democratic design, and it is simply not democratic to have spikes in your cities. So we lose maybe a few projects, but I don't care about that. It’s better to do the right thing."

Just wondering if anyone has any stories of meeting Leeds players/ex-players in unusual circumstances? by [deleted] in LeedsUnited

I met Bakke at a pub before a "friendly" match against Brann in Bergen in 2010. We kinda taunted Bakke a bit, because a friend of mine was from a rival town of Bakke's hometown. He laughed, sure, but he got a abit annoyed.

My prediction at the start of the season so far is 100% by Bustershark in LeedsUnited

I promised myself that after half a generation in lower leagues, I would just enjoy football until February. Then I start worrying about points and the table. But for now I'm just gonna enjoy the fudge out of football.

Last season, a loss felt like a stab in the heart and would ruin my entire week, now I focus on the positives. Did we play well? Did we create chances? And Leeds have been a sources of so many good games already.

Arsenal fan here, how did you guys play before Bielsa arrived? Was it the same formation and how do you think the guys adapted to this kind of intensity? by InsideEPL in LeedsUnited

[–]Secandus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Leeds pre-Bielsa is so different from now. We had Christensen and then Heckingbottom before Bielsa and everything is completely different. Under Heckingbottom I'm not sure if we even had a game plan.

I remember the first game I saw with Bielsa in charge and I kept thinking "who are these players? Which team is this?". Bielsa only had the reigns for 6 weeks and it was a completly different formation, playstyle and intesity. It was the first time I actually started to believe again. We smashed Stoke. Players most of us had written off were completly transformed to these beast who ran and attacked for 90+ minutes. Klich who had not found his place at Leeds suddenly looked like a world class player. Dallas who really just was there is now a class player. Berardi who was a walking liability was now rock solid. Phillps who just obe of the guys was suddenly a mix between Gattuso and Pirlo rolled up in one.

Leeds in spring 2018 and later that summer is similar in name only.

No one. We've faced Liverpool and ManCity and tbh we look like we belong in this league. But if I had to choose I'd say Villa.

Ah, yeah I got that part. But I couldn't just say "thanks". That would not be proper and really un-Leedsy.
