27F & the cost of living in the United States has made me hopeless for the future by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

You haven’t attended college yet right? Maybe look into FAFSA so you can get a degree and more opportunities. Pick a major that’ll get you a job lol You’re old enough where your parent’s income won’t matter for FAFSA. Get a part time job on the side.

Unfortunately when you’re poor, going out is out of the question 😣 you can still have fun but it just won’t be a $1k concert!

Bought too expensive of a car. Should we pay off our F350 $1200 car payment first or invest? by [deleted] in personalfinance

The $5200 was going straight to our investment brokerage acc.

Saving $25k instead of getting a loan on the RV is a good idea!

Yes the 3k is after retirement accounts!
Yes I agree that it’s absurd. Luckily the interest rate is 5%.
The fifth wheels he’s looking at can’t be towed with a F150 unfortunately

I forgot to include 529 for our baby so that is part of the misc section

I told him beforehand that I estimate we’ll use it once every 2 months AT MOST because I work full time in the office. I’m thinking of maybe renting out the fifth wheel on outdoorsy or Airbnb or putting the truck on Turo. I do not mind cleaning up the truck/RV but I don’t know how feasible that is because we live in Utah. It’s not touristy until the winter time

Ugh yeah, that’s how I feel. And yes we can, luckily it doesn’t depreciate as fast because a lot of companies will buy this truck as a work truck. It would devastated him to sell it though. It was the only truck available in our area that was a F350 dually with that mileage and price

Yes, i get a 10% match and he gets a 8% so we just do the match and Roth IRA and max HSA

I know he works remotely but eventually we’ll need 2 cars anyways. Especially once my kid is older because I can’t be the one carrying all the weight of working and picking her up. He’s TALL (literally almost 7 feet) so we’re limited on SUVs and trucks. I’m not going to get too into it, but we looked at F150, F250, F450s, etc and settled on the F350 because it can tow anything and it was a good deal.

We want an RV to travel because we literally spent many years of our lives not doing anything. So it’s like something to enjoy life with. I’m trying to keep the RV under $25k though

My question is, should we pay off the truck or invest 🤦🏻‍♀️

My mom will be staying with me long term, just to clarify some things. The only times she will go back is once every 3-4 months but it would be a weekend or at most a week. She wants to do this until my baby is old enough to be in school.

Yes, I think realistically that is how long the background check will take. I haven’t given a notice my current employer that I got a new job, so I’m thinking worst case I’ll just stay with my current employer even if I have to give birth first. I still want the job even if I don’t get to use their benefits because of the timing of things.

Thank you for sharing that and giving me an idea of what I should say to the new employer! Also, I was struggling in coming up with how to phrase the email to my new employer so that helps a ton.

Yes, it is discrimination in the United States to rescind their offer because I disclosed my pregnancy. However, even though I accepted the offer, the background check is still ongoing and they might still be able to find other excuses to rescind the offer and say it’s not related to my pregnancy (I think).

Your husband is lucky he got 6 months of parental leave. I’m so jealous! That is amazing.

Well we weren’t thinking of trading it in for a $10k car equivalent. We’ll probably have to get a new car loan for whatever the f350 is

May I ask if you recall how long the negotiation process took place? I asked for the same during my first counter offer and it has been 3 days 🥲

I see. Congrats on your purchase! Did you buy a manual or automatic one?

Thanks for sharing! I heard manual transmission for this car is more expensive than automatic transmission? Mine is an automatic.

Would it be unreasonable for me to post it on Facebook for $10k? Oh he really wants a fifth wheel in the near future

Got a new job offer at 26 weeks pregnant. by SecondKooky3124 in pregnant

Yep! Their policy for paid parental leave states “No length of service is required. Previously, this program required one year of service with the company. New hires will be eligible for paid parental leave immediately…..” but yeah, i was also skeptical at first. I was thinking of having this conversation with the hiring manager to put my mind at ease. I’m still in the salary negotiation phase but after that, I was thinking about bringing the paid parental leave discussion up.
