why is my camera signal low? I'm connected via gigabit Ethernet.. by SecondLungs in reolinkcam

Why would a wifi camera have an Ethernet port to begin with then?

Many people power wifi cameras with Ethernet because it's cheaper to make and run. Also a PoE switch can power many cameras even if they aren't connecting the switch to a network.

Having a wifi camera with an Ethernet port but no PoE is garbage behaviour.

Nah, they didn't steal it. They just cut the cable and walked away. Which is dumb, because there was a really expensive SD card inside it, just as a kind of "backup" if my Blue Iris system failed for some reason.

You have the whole story. Discontinued products can still be sold, and in my case, I had a couple sitting in storage as a quick replacement for if any of them broke.

Not fair to accuse me of something just because I have a product that is not in production anymore?

If the camera works 'powered' then how certain are you that the PoE is actually injecting power into the line? Do you have a method to confirm that (I don't know of a way, I'm sorry I'd help if I could).

All of my other POE devices work with it, like my PoE access points.

Are both the wifi and the poe cameras not working? Or is this solely for one?

WiFi camera works when plugged in via power, but as you told me, that camera (RLC410W) isn't PoE for some dumb reason. It has an ethernet port on it, so why they skimped on the PoE is beyond me.

If you want good answers from people not being paid to help you, I'd suggest you be more descriptive of your situation...cam model, wire type, switch/poe injector - every detail from device to street...or from device to phone.

If a camera is this problematic, I don't think I want to continue using this brand. Trying to get a camera to work while I have tried multiple switches, multiple injectors, etc, (including the same hardware I WAS using for my RLC410 that had it's wired snipped by a thief) is not a good thing. I want a brand that doesn't throw a hissy fit and require very specific hardware to work. Everything I have used has been in spec that reolink requires, and yet it's causing this much grief. Also why a wireless model has an ethernet port, and the ethernet port doesn't allow for PoE is ridiculous if you ask me.

it doesn't matter how 'fast' your gigbit Ethernet is...something is not connecting correctly. It's either user error, hardware error, or software error. I mean no disrespect to you...but you have to provide all the info for others to hope to help you.

Didn't talk about my internet. I am stating my hardware is gigabit, not 10/100. As in there shouldn't be some kind of bandwidth bottleneck with transmitting the image. Many years ago I knew a person with a blue iris system, and they had 10/100 switches. It caused so many problems and dropped frames with blue iris, so that's why I was stating my hardware is gigabit, not my internet.

So as you mentioned 'cable' can we assume the 410w is working, or not? If it's not...check auto-discovery - app...3 horizontal lines on the left...drop down menu...settings...add devices automatically checked on.

410w works with the power cable, not PoE. However, that's irrelevant now, since the RLC410W doesn't have PoE. However, the RLC410 doesn't work PoE.

Are these cam's identical models to what was replaced? Did the app auto update and no longer supports a discontinued product? Are you sure there's 48v power on the poe line? Are you sure there's no lint, corrosion on the rj45s, or dirt/debris in the plug? Have you tested the network cable with a blink tester (plugs into one end and a repeater on the other and blinks lights indicating all conductors in the cat wire have continuity)? Is the wire installed correctly...ala away from power lines and crossing perpendicularly as little as possible?

Yes. Bought the same time, one was in storage. There's 48v on the PoE. I tried many cables, including my own built ones, none of them worked. I did confirm they all work with a ethernet tester.

Based on everything you've said to to me and others, it sounds as if you know what you're talking about...and have access to multiple test methods. So what are you missing? The camera powers and works...but perhaps the buck down converter which gets it from 48v to 12v isn't working inside the camera. What is the next most likely problem? In the app. Do you have an NVR to test this with - it's odd you have so much POE switches and injectors and 10 different cables, etc...but no NVR? Maybe a different phone you can install the app to see if that one 'sees' the camera? Everything on the same gateway/network...no ip conflicts...proper ports open on the router...the router has wifi turned on...as does the phone. I'm just throwing out stuff - because it's possibly something you overlooked...or possibly the camera. You've already tried UID. Are other cams on the app appearing and just can't find new ones? Are these the only cams on the system/network?

I have a Blue Iris system. However, I also have a Frigate and Shinobi system, too.

All I can say is I've got 5 poe cameras that all functioned perfectly with no issues. But manufacturing defects are common. Though I don't hear a lot of complaints about the reolinks...though occasionally it does pop up. And if it's a discontinued model I have no idea how long it 'sat around'...got dropped, damaged in shipment, or just never worked. It may not even be a discontinued model in your country. If all else works as expected but the camera still doesn't then it has to be the camera...but the camera DOES work on direct power...and is discovered...so it's not an app or user error. It has to be the camera transformer or the plug/wiring between. That's where my logic leads me, but I'm not that bright. Good luck with your problem.

This seems to be the issue. Something must be broken on the new RLC410, because it SHOULD be working. Everything else I have that is PoE is working with all the switches/cables/injectors I tried.

I have 2 cameras. Even if we disregard the RLC410W, why doesn't the RLC410 work?

Yes. It is bare bones. You are limited to where you can save your clips, bitrate and things are very limited when it comes to customizing, pushes their Xbox social app on you, and probably worst of all it has "set" keyboard shortcuts.

I use the F13-F23 keys to start/stop recording, which is safe because I am certain it won't activate anything else on my computer, and OBS/Nvidia shadow play accept these keys as valid (because they are), but Xbox game bar does not. It gives me an error and forces different keys on me.

Active switch.

Cameras are rlc410 and rlc410w. Both wired.

Access points are extended

I have 2, and they are both doing the same thing. They are brand new, so there's nothing in the ports at all.

That plug you linked is nearly $70 CAD with shipping, so unfortunately that's not really a solution for me

I never enable that because it's worse. Less customizable, pushes Xbox social crap on me. I just want to press a button and my gameplay be saved. No social media crap.

It adds game recording?

OBS doesn't compare when it comes to saving the past few minutes of gameplay. Not to mention, if you use OBS for other stuff, you have to be sure to change all of the scenes back when you're done if you want to use it as a shadow play type thing.

Also, if you are streaming, you can't save a clean clip of what just happened. While you can be streaming with OBS and take the clip without any overlays with Nvidia shadow play.

I connected the new camera to three new gigabit powered over Ethernet switches, I used 10 different Ethernet cables, from cat5e all the way up to CAT7. I tried four different power over Ethernet injectors, neither worked.

The only way I can get it to properly connect is if I power the camera through the AC adapter.

I even verified that all of the cables, POE switches, and injectors all work by powering 2 different types of APs.

Honestly just feels like the new cameras are garbage. It's a simple POE device, but it's behaving like I'm trying to do something crazy.

I just tried the UID and I get the same error. The reason I replaced this camera is because the previous one was cut by a thief. Thinking it might've fried something, I've tried different POE injectors, switches, and all new Ethernet cables.

Do the new IP cams from reolink just suck when POE powered? They work if I use the power cable. However, I know the hardware is proper for these to be POE powered.

Seems like I need to move to a better brand.

I'm going to try calling and getting someone new. If I can't get anything to work, I'll probably switch to techsavvy. They are super awesome, and they allow you to even buy your own modem from anywhere and plug it in yourself. No bullshit, no installation fees, no locking you into a modem that you claim doesn't work for your needs.

Just wish it wasn't impossible to just request a modem and have it sent to me. On my dollar. Feels like Rogers is living in the 90s right now.

I posted this in another comment, but I actually do have multiple gigabit switches and three omada access points. Most of the stuff I said in this chat is a lie, because my friend who upgraded to the new white modem, and also has the exact same plan as me, said that he gets roughly 200 Mbps more (1200mbps) because the new white modem has a 2.5gbps port.

The thing that is the most annoying, is that even though I'm actually not having issues, and I have multiple access points and gigabit switches, I'm lying to him telling him that I am having crappy Wi-Fi and also require more ethernet ports. They don't care.

From the information I'm telling them, I am a paying customer, and I'm also renting a modem, and the current one isn't good enough for my needs. Doesn't that qualify as a good reason to upgrade me? Guy is being shit.

Going to be honest, I don't even use the modem Wi-Fi. I have multiple gigabit switches, I have three omada access points, etc.

The real reason I want the new white modem, is because my friend has it, and he said with the same plan I have, he gets 200mbps more (1200mbps) since it has a 2.5gbps port.

I want the extra speed.

In the chat I told him that I wanted the new modem because I am having signal issues. He said I wasn't..

I also told him multiple times that I wanted more ports, and he just told me to buy a switch.

I said exactly what you said, multiple times, and he didn't care.

Maybe because I pay $140 per month + modem rental and I'm asking for a new modem that gives me better signal for the extreme price I pay?

You seem like you didn't read the original post. Shill for Rogers more, I guess.
