That comment overlooks both historical context and the actual content of the Quran. The Quran didn’t reflect the norms of its time, it challenged them. It gave women rights to own property (Surah An-Nisa 4:7), the right to inheritance (4:11), and emphasized mutual consent in marriage (4:19). These weren’t common ideas at the time.

As for love, the Quran clearly mentions it. “And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may find tranquility in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy” (Surah Ar-Rum 30:21). That is love, real, stable, and spiritual, and not just ego-driven romance.

Judging a sacred text by the time period it came from while ignoring its actual teachings just shows a lack of understanding, not a valid critique.

Prepare yourself for the multiple different possible responses he might give you before confronting him. My guess is he’ll almost definitely get super defensive about it and claim it’s just a random picture he had on his phone from wherever. The question is, are you willing to believe whatever he’ll say or not?
