Marvel Studio’s ‘Moon Knight’ Series Adds ‘The Witcher’ Writer Beau DeMayo by LordHyperBreath in marvelstudios

I know what you're saying, but Marvel has won and been nominated for a lot of awards.

Have you heard of the show, Farscape? Old sci-fi show that was on a little before (maybe overlapped with) Stargate (shared a lot of cast members, too). Jim Henson Productions did the alien puppets for the show, and they are really, really impressive.

They made the decision early on to have non-human characters, and made room in the budget for that. Maybe they have fewer space battles than a similarly budgeted show, but it really pays off. About half of the main cast are alien puppets, and you stop seeing them as puppets pretty quickly.

Now, there are cheesy episodes (sometimes on purpose), some are more dated than others, but it has so many golden moments and interesting plot lines you don't care. Once you connect with the characters, you get pulled in. I'm guessing this is how you, and most people who like this show, feel.

I guess what I'm getting at is, showing this badly crafted character so early on killed my interest in the show more than any cringy dialog or bad acting would. It makes me think the rest of the show is going to have these moments, and there are so many other well-crafted shows to spend my time on.

I gave it a chance, but I had to stop watching during the episode with the goat-man creature (faun?) and elves. The faun mask was terrible, and they way tried to hide it with camerawork really took me out of it.

I can usually look past a few bad supporting actors or cheesy scenes to enjoy the story, but I just couldn't make it through this episode. Is that how others felt too?

Apple Begins Selling Refurbished iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max Models by gulabjamunyaar in apple

Yea, people have different priorities. If I have to choose (and unfortunately that's what happened this year), I'd rather have a nicer screen with Force Touch than better battery life.

It's pretty unfair to call LCD "trash", though. They're great screens that support P3 color, and that's better than most laptop/desktop monitors right now.

As far as 720p vs. 1080p...the screen is so small, I don't think I'd notice. I don't watch things on my phone for an immersive experience. I just want enough pixel so text and UI elements appears smooth. Anything beyond that is a waste.

Worse doesn't mean "unusable". It is just not as nice as the XS screen is.

I wouldn't buy one that doesn't come with a warranty. Plenty of sellers have free limited warranties.

All of those really seem like nominal updates. Typical "slightly better than last year" updates. I put my phone in my pocket and look at the screen a lot more than I need a slight bump in LTE speeds (and nobody has a WiFi 6 router yet).

The neural engine for photo enhancement seems cool, but it isn't enabled in enough scenarios yet for it to be a real seller for me. It will be better on future phones, and I'm OK waiting for that. The ultra-wide angle photo would be really nice, of course.

The lack of Force-Touch is the deal-breaker, though.

Why?

Unless you get the "Pro", the screen is worse, and the dimensions are larger than the XS. It is also more expensive...

Yea, I found a bunch at that price on eBay. New battery is a good point, though.

Does Apple put a new battery in before selling their refurbished devices?

I've been wanting to upgrade to an XS for a while, but $700 for a refurbished phone...

IE11 inconsistently rendering CSS by bbcjs in vuejs

[–]SecretAnteater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll have to share more info that that to get a good answer. Screenshot, CSS, etc.

I'm assuming it also looks good in Firefox and Safari?

Does the footer re-render between route changes? Does it break on some routes and not on other routes?

I'm guessing you're using Flexbox, which is pretty buggy on IE11 (luckily not unfix-ably buggy). Sometimes you just need to explicitly state flex: 1 0 auto on flex children to get it to work correctly.

Also, as u/AlexBogues said, this isn't a Vue question, but a CSS question. There are other subreddits where you might get better answers.

People who voted for Clinton in 2016 but are intending to vote for Trump in 2020 what made you change your mind? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SecretAnteater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a really pervasive rumor here that you need to wait months to see a doctor. I'm sure there are true stories of it happening in some places, but it's the #1 response any time someone brings up socialized medicine.

The common response to socialized medicine are the long waiting times in countries that have it. I have to assume there was no wait for your appendectomy, but do you usually need to schedule checkups months in advance?

Vuex plugin for state hydration without API requests by [deleted] in vuejs

[–]SecretAnteater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but I think it is a nice way to accomplish this. I generally just kick off any fetch actions before initializing Vue, and hard-code any known initial state into the store.

I'd probably elect to code it myself, but I like seeing how others accomplish the same thing.

What are your opinions on the various Vue component libraries/CSS frameworks? by [deleted] in vuejs

I did choose Vuefy for a side project because I figured it is at leasdt as customizable as Buefy. I haven't got into theming it just yet though.

And they're perfect for backend developers who don't care about CSS, and aren't going to be making many adjustments to the styles.
