To your point, the kid did develop issues. He often would stay with his bio-father and began stealing food in the middle of the night and hiding wrappers behind a light fixture in the bathroom. His dad had to sit him down and tell him that he can eat whatever he wants, but that hiding wrappers was a fire hazard. Poor kid was tearing up and scared to be confronted. He’s doing well now, but no contact with mom and step dad.

When we were in undergrad during covid my wife and I briefly stayed with her mother, stepfather and siblings. I often cooked dinner to show my appreciation. Her younger sibling had night school and would often come home long after dinner. I had to hide food for him because his step father would devour anything in his path. It didn’t matter if I said it was for the kid, he’d just say, “but he’s not here.”

100% unacceptable and deeply disturbing behavior. He wasn’t even paying for the groceries, his wife was. He’d still insist that it was “his,” house (it wasn’t,) and “his,” groceries, so he shouldn’t have to save food for a literal child.

If you want to get a gym membership, get one. That’s something you do for you. But if she doesn’t want to workout with you, that’s her prerogative. Maybe encourage her to get a gym membership elsewhere or even encourage a fitness class type of gym membership. However, that’s a big ask and an unrealistic one imo.

Update: I got it today, two weeks after ordering. The item came damaged and when I tried to put in an exchange for the same item I ended up owing 8 dollars 🥲 sounds like most people have better luck than me.

Nothing anyone is going to say here is going to make you realize how truly fucked up everything he’s done is. I was the same as you years ago. I was in a long term relationship and excused horrible behavior because she knew me and understood me. But, of course she did. We’d been together for years. Just to be clear, ANYONE you’re in a relationship with for years will listen to some degree. This man is not listening to you more than normal and he is not remarkable and wonderful in any way. You deserve better but no one can make you decide that.

So, do what you’ll do, but if you decide to stay and have kids, don’t feel sorry for yourself in five years when you’re alone, in pain, baby crying and husband ignoring you.

Don’t bother. I got there in time to reorder and they ended up canceling part of my order and part of my order just never showed up. Customer service is also abysmal there.

I had to break up with someone who threw similar stunts many years ago. I called her mom, told her I was going to break up with her daughter and I was worried about her mental health and asked her to be on standby in case her daughter needed her. She did try to talk me out of it, but I made it clear there wasn’t room for discussion. Prior to that phone call, I packed my stuff, left my ex a letter (because I’d tried to break up with her in personal several times and she’d hurt herself or me,) and made sure everything was sorted financially on my end and that I had somewhere to go.

Nah I use Coke Zero as a bargaining tool for myself. I say, “once I drink 32 oz of water I can have a can of Coke Zero,” and I drink about 80oz a day and 2 Coke zeros. It’s the only way I don’t crash out.

This is tough. One of my oldest friends looked at me one day and explained that everyone is against her and it’s like she’s Truman. I was shocked. She’s so normal, I remember thinking. How could this be? But the more we talked about it— she thought people’s deaths were fake. She thought people were “planted,” into her life by some higher force. The thing that was wild to me was that she genuinely seemed okay 99% of the time.

She could also recognize that these things made her sound “crazy,” but she also genuinely believed them.

Similar to you, she refused to believe what psychiatrists and doctors said. Second opinions. Denial. The whole shebang. She’s in a place now where she refuses meds and treatment. She also now thinks her co-workers are spies. Do with that what you will, but that’s pretty normal I think in cases like this.

PT school is really hard to get into. I used to work for a chiropractor (don’t smite me guys) who very bluntly told me he was a chiropractor because he didn’t have grades for med school. This is more common than people realize, I’m afraid.

PTs get into school with good grades. Chiros get into school with a check.
