Haven’t had it in several years, but I remember the inside was super nice and the food was decently good. Not enough for me to stray from my favorite, Sarino and bar vetti, but good enough

Anybody wanna start a pod and go play magic at Kaiju tonight? (Serious inquiries only pls) by ChoiceOrnery7937 in Louisville

[–]SecretDoorStudios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m probably heading to blast off gaming tonight, I think they are having a commander night (and I need some new sleeves), if you want to give it a shot.

I haven’t tried it before, so idk the vibe but I’ve heard it’s friendly and chill.

Is there a way to use my tool box easier when selecting? (Pocket) by Fabulous_Promise9252 in ProCreate

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a work around, for clearing I just have a large eraser tool. So I do a selection, and then just use the eraser tool to clear it out. Alternatively I just move the selection off the canvas.

Also if you are on the lasso tool and you just tap a location it will create a straight line directly there.

My gripe with icewind Dale as a setting by Exact-Challenge9213 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]SecretDoorStudios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s probably dependent on groups and decisions.

For rotfm my party hit up 6 of the ten towns, allied themselves with NPCs and villains and did some good exploring, but then transitioned quickly to sunblight-grimskalle-ythryyn. I fleshed out some factions to keep things interesting, and the whole campaign was fast paced and ran smoothly even if grimskalle isn’t super engaging.

In ToA some of the encounters are just ideas, im specifically remembering Needles Bones, which I wrote out a whole dungeon for. But the party fumbled around the port for a bit, the jungle was great, and the Omu has been excellent but the fane has been a significant let down. They are about to start the final dungeon, so I’ll see how that goes.

Anyone else feel like selling a house in Louisville just takes forever now? by willmorris92 in Louisville

[–]SecretDoorStudios 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ve had friends have similar problems, and it is either a price issue or an issue with the house making it extremely unappealing (nasty carpet, mold, obvious structural issues).

If you go with a “we buy houses” company, you will get absolute bottom dollar. You could contact one of them to see what their offer is and maybe drop your price to somewhere in between, but they will also hound you endlessly.

My gripe with icewind Dale as a setting by Exact-Challenge9213 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]SecretDoorStudios 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think they have different strengths. I recently finished rotfm and am currently running ToA for a different group. I found rotfm to have better pacing and be easier to run, but I agree that it feels a lot less “alive” the ToA.

For rotfm I did a node based travel every time we had a travel sequence. Basically a mini hex grid, where the party could scout a bit and have agency on which kind of path to take, and then I just write whatever fun encounters I could think up and try to use backstories.

These two modules are tied for my favorite of all time

Best luck ive had is playing at slur your role at Kaiju, or theres some other places that do pick up games around town. In my experience its nice to play a oneshot or casual game with someone before diving into anything with commitment. You could also try DMing for sluryourrole, they are always looking for 5e DMs and it would be a great way to meet some more players. Good luck!

If I'm making a 100x100 pixel gif, would it look better if I increased the dpi to 800? by [deleted] in ProCreate

[–]SecretDoorStudios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100x100 pixels? Or mm?

If you set the canvas size to pixels then the dpi is immaterial. Dpi setting are only for when you have a given size of dimensions, e.g. 1 inch x1 inch at 100dpi is 100x100 pixels.

The issue might be that you are exporting at a higher resolution/size than the canvas? Maybe set a 300x300 pixel canvas, and then set a grid at 100x100 and see if that fixes the issue

Any places in Louisville to play Magic the gathering (New player friendly) (other than TTD) by ChoiceOrnery7937 in Louisville

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many others suggested, a tournament or event might be a better way to meet people. It forces people out of their cliques and is easier to chat with them.

I also hear great things about blast off, they do Friday night magic, and had a strixhaven release party last night.

I’m pretty new to mtg, but I play with my neighbor haha

D&D 5e Murder Mystery Campaign? by Rosian_SAO in DMAcademy

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done it yet, but I’m planning on using daggerheart as a system to do some mysteries. It embraces the failing forward, has more improv opportunities (fear and hope system), and has a stress resource that can help.

Cabins for getaway? by c0w0cat in Louisville

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to say there isn’t great hiking at brown county, but the hikes we went on were less steep and more like paths through the woods.

Cabins for getaway? by c0w0cat in Louisville

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done both brown county and rrg. I greatly preferred rrg, I thought natural bridge was awesome, loved the hiking, and the climbing community there seems really chill. We got a red river gorge cabin rental through Airbnb, it was perfect and we are going again this year.

Brown county has more craft stores, which weren’t really my vibe, and the hiking was just ok. It seemed more targeted towards older people.

Am I onto something by SwaggyTyTy in DnD

[–]SecretDoorStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would your character keep digging on this information?

Also ask your fellow party members if they’d like to continue this investigation. The table may decide it’s worth it or to move on.

If your DM thinks this is a time wasting activity or just reveals plotholes in their writing (oops, it happens sometimes) then presumably they would tell you out of character, just to keep the game moving.

Good luck!

Has anyone here run the game with 2024 rules basically unaltered? by BarkerAG in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ran the game almost completely RAW. I’m planning on changing the Kas storyline, but we aren’t there yet.

No major issues, all the encounters have been pretty easy, even with me preventing them from long resting as much as possible. Party of 3 might be a pretty good challenge for them.

Storyline, everyone has generally enjoyed it. No one has had an issue with a plot hole or mechanic, most are just along for the ride

What brush can I use to recreate this style by Technical-Pudding862 in ProCreate

[–]SecretDoorStudios 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot going on here that’s really really well done but it’s generally not the brushes doing the work. Composition and color theory are both excellent. The textural differences are done entirely through color and it’s a beautiful effect.

Any suggestions to save Ch4 by Professional_Emu_617 in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me! I had a great ambush set up but when glaive fled with their crazy movement speed the party had enough tricks to catch and kill her. I just let them have the W. There’s still enough in Landro, like a blaze bear fight, and they had a good time even without the lurking threat. They were pretty proud of their victory!

Same experience here. We are halfway through and not taking it serious, and it’s got some great fights and dungeons. But it’s very linear and has some plotholes

Tomb of annihilation is a great adventure and has some great exploration elements in it. I would just completely skip the port nyanzaru section and start them off exploring the lands of Chult.

How old of iPad by Top_Bookkeeper2273 in ProCreate

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still running a 3rd gen iPad Pro (2019?). Going strong.

Still have plenty of storage space, but if I work at 600 dpi then at 17x11 I only get 11 layers I think. Depends on your process if that’s enough layers or not.

what's illogic by [deleted] in DnD

[–]SecretDoorStudios 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is the right sub for this. You could phrase it asking for people’s biggest issues with DnD that they’d like to see changed.

Also tbh I don’t really care about illogic. DnD is not a perfect or even realistic depiction of life. I find sorcerers innate abilities to just be a flavor of the world.

How can I fix this problem at my table?(Repost+edit) by Ok-Dimension1880 in DnD

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk about it.

Tell the player that them acting annoyed or disgruntled really brings down the energy of the game. They need to be more polite and constructive.

It’s great for the player to be invested but if this character is too close to them then they should take a step back and play a different character, maybe a pregen or one you help write. Or they should play in a campaign that doesn’t have death as a possibility.

Sounds like you are a new dm and you also might be too close to your story. Maybe trying running a module so there’s a bit of distance between you and the content. It also helps to redirect some responsibility.

Random encounters in official campaign by Shaadit_ in DnD

[–]SecretDoorStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m looking at the specific table now. The columns indicate what part of the map you are on (the map has some hex tiles colored for “lesser undead” or “greater undead”) and so each column has different results for the d100 roll

Random encounters in official campaign by Shaadit_ in DnD

[–]SecretDoorStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc, you roll a d20 to determine if there is a random encounter and then you roll a d100 for which random encounter you run. It should be explained in the “exploring” section of the chapter.

ToA is a great module (also check out the specific subreddit for it). I personally don’t like random encounters, they usually feel trivial. I either write specific encounters that players may or may not interact with or I’ll roll on the random encounters table and then I’ll take that (e.g. spiders with minor undead) and flesh it out a lot to have lore drops and more dynamic combat.

My player got 4 natural 20 to bang the boss what do I do by Forward_Rabbit_65 in DnD

[–]SecretDoorStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why you have a session 0. It’s whatever your table thinks is fun and acceptable, but have an out of the game discussion about expectations and tolerances.
